Shout out to the awesome bakery department! They make a fantastic pumpernickel bread that is the BEST thing to pair with spinach dip. When picking up our pumpernickel (you have to order it ahead of time), they offered me a taste of a sweet apple bread loaf. I asked if there was nuts in it and another lady in the bakery yelled "the nuts are back here!" meaning the bakers at work, haha ha. We wished each other happy new year and I bought the apple loaf as well. It's awesome toasted with butter! read more

In the last six months, twice I've been in this store and come across another shopper with a regular dog on a leash, not a service dog. It's evident because the dog has a regular collar on, is trying to jump on or sniff other customers and has no official markings on it.. Then, Christmas Eve a lady was walking two dressed up French bulldogs with antlers and Christmas sweaters and neither was behaving and yet even when the store employee was made aware, they did nothing about it. This is disgusting in a food store and shouldn't be tolerated. I don't wanna buy my food in the same place that allows regular animals to wander through. I'm all for service dogs, but a few service dogs I've seen in there actually had a vest and were very well behaved as a service dog would be. I'm talking about the clearly non-service dogs that they seem to let wander without regard. I don't recommend going in here if you like clean stores to buy your food from. read more

While staying in Calabash we stopped in here for some items to make dinner... They have a nice selection of most of the items we needed and decent prices. Fresh baked breads were nice looking and what we bought was fresh and tasty. The store is slightly cluttered, but otherwise we enjoyed this trip and will return for more items during this stay in the area. read more

Store is beautiful however checking out was terrible. I had a few items I went on express suppose to be 10 items or less the person in front of me had over 30 items. Sorry but this is wrong if the cashier is not allowed to politely say sorry this is express then DON"T have one. There was not enough cashiers and of course this is pushing self check out. I use to work at self checkouts and there is a lot of stealing in their mind they think they are saving money by not having to pay a cashier they happen to be wrong. So happy self check out and no cashiers this is bad customer service! read more

In NC I usually shop at Harris Teeter or Lowe's. Since there are no Harris Teeter stores in Little River I was happy to find Lowe's. I went to the bakery to buy tiramisu for dessert when we got home, having just had a nice seafood dinner in Calabash. The girl in the bakery asked if she could help me, I asked for two of the fresh tiramisu in the case. I was told to get the frozen ones, that they would be perfect In About 10 minutes. It is a 10 minute drive home and then another few minutes unloading the car and preparing coffee. The tiramisu were still frozen solid. Defrosted in the microwave made them soggy and inedible. I don't understand why she would not let me buy the fresh items I wanted. So disappointed at this experience. read more

Cute store, ran in for an item that I can't find down in Myrtle Beach. The layout is nice, and the store details are very appealing to the eye. The sign on the building says "welcome to our farm". In the fire lane at the front of the store, is a little section blocked off for farm tractors lol. That was adorable. I thought it was interesting that the alcohol was located right in front of the store, as soon as you walked in the front door. But then I thought how convenient for the people who only need to run in for booze. That way they don't have to run through the entire store and interrupt all the grocery shoppers. We didn't find quite exactly what we were hoping for, but it was a step up from in Myrtle Beach. So I wouldn't say it was a complete loss or a waste of a stop in. read more

Stay away from the fish! I had purchased a piece of salmon and a piece of tilapia. Attendant smelled the tilapia, when I asked him why, he said he wanted to make sure the fish was fresh. Well, it wasn't. I ate the salmon the first night and when I opened the refrigerator the next day the most rancid smell was coming from the tilapia. They must keep it past expiration or purchase too much. A friend of mine just mentioned yesterday that she had purchased a bad piece of cod, I asked her where she got it, she said Lowes in Little River. I have not been back to Lowes since it happened to me, was not satisfied with the way they handled it when I complained to customer service. I never returned it to the store because I could not stand the thought of smelling it in my car. Shame on them! read more

I have been shopping at Lowes Foods since I lived in Winston Salem NC. I remember when the branch now closed in Shallotte was the only Lowes Foods, then the one in Ocean Isle Beach and now that I live closer to the Little River Lowes I have to say with certainty that this one of the only grocery stores I shop at! Tourist season is hard on locals sometimes so I discovered Lowes Foods to Go and Norma and Ashley are both so wonderful. My groceries are packed into my car for me, they take my credit card payment and i am gone! I rarely have problems with my order but when I do they are quick to fix it and give me a discount on my next trip. My son has been working there for 2 years, Shirley has been there for as long as I can remember and even my friend Tawny and her daughter Kristin work there. Why? Because they are good to their customers AND their employees! The store is beautiful, clean and everyone who works there is very helpful! I cannot say anything bad about Lowes but I can assure you if I had a complaint that management would take care of it in the blink of an eye! read more

I just had an incredible experience today at Lowes Foods. As I was walking toward the entrance, I found the exact rocking chairs out front that I have been looking for. I have been looking for the past year. When I finished my food shopping, I went to the self checkout. There was a young lady right there and I asked her how much they were. She told me $79.99 each. I said that I wanted 2, but we were in my grandsons car and that they wouldn't fit in. I live right around the corner. I paid for them and the young girl grabbed 2 of them and put them in the office because they only had a few left. I went back with my car, hoping to get at least one in and could come back for the other. People are amazed how much I can get in my car. I went in and there was Shirley. I told her that I would need someones help as I am a senior and handicapped as well. Shirley said, "No problem." As she brought the rocking chairs out, I pulled my car around. I had my back seats down, but we quickly realized that no matter what, they just were not going to fit. Without hesitation, she asked where I lived and it was not far from Lowes Foods, right in Carolina Shores. Then the shock came. She said that she had an SUV and the next thing I know, she got in her SUV, pulled behind me and got both rockers in her vehicle. She followed me to my home and got them out of her vehicle for me. I could NOT believe it. I offered to give her some money for gas, but she refused. She said it was right around the corner. Shirley, if you get this, I want to send a HUGE thank you for what you did for me. You had no idea I was disabled, nor did you know I had just left the hospital from having a major test done. THE grocery store to frequent when you are in the Sunset Beach/Calabash, NC area. A great selection of fresh fish (sashimi grade tuna a definite plus) and other meats, and probably the cleanest and most updated grocery store in the area. With the other Lowe's Foods just north of Sunset Beach closing (on September 10, 2011) the only other store you've got in the area is Food Lion, and it just can't compete, to be honest. read more

I like this Lowes location. I've been visiting the store for some time now, and I always have a good experience. I always get the foods I'm looking for, including several varieties of organic produce that I can't get anywhere else nearby; also, I like their markdown section in the back, which is always a little adventure to visit. Likewise, the store is clean and organized, the parking lot is big and logical, and the staff I've met are friendly and attentive. I've never had any problem at the store, and will likely return in the future. My sincere thanks goes out to all associated with this business. A visit to this grocery store is not just any old grocery run-it's an entire experience. Never before have I shopped in a grocery store where I can purchase and consume a brew or glass of wine while shopping--it's actually a brilliant idea! They have a nice herb garden (with rosemary, tyme, basil, parsley, and cilantro) where you can cut off what you want from the plants and fill a little baggie with as many herbs as possible for only $1. Also, there's staff available to chop, dice, mince, or purée fresh produce you pick out right in front of you! They have a community table where they hold daily cooking demonstrations and tastings. Seriously- it's impressive. Lowes Food takes grocery shopping to another level-It's the only grocery store I'll visit in the area. I love shopping here! read more

We love to shop here because of the different deli/bakery/meat options they offer. They have a huge wine and craft beer selection as well. It's a very nice grocery store with lots of "specialty" things that you don't find at most stores (other than publix). read more

We have had good experiences with the specialty bakery and ordering personalized birthday cakes for family members. They have some great staff members. The fried chicken stand is wonderful and provides good friendly service, too. Our biggest issue has been with the deli counter and the way it delivers service to its customer. The issue is that when several customers approach the counter, since there is no number system, the customers are forced into a jostling slosh pit, trying to discern (along with the deli staff) who was actually first, next in line to be served. It has gotten to the point where, rather than deal with the Mosh Pit, I will go elsewhere, Food Lion, etc. for my deli needs in nearby Calabash. My hope is that they, Lowes, will eventually see the light and institute an orderly number system. The central issue is the fact that they have customers coming from multiple directions toward the deli counters and are not being fair to their customers (or their staff frankly) by not instituting a first come-first served, democratic number system. read more

My husband and I shopped here while on a quick weekend getaway just after Christmas, December 2015. While I admit their selection is great, the prices here are high unless you are shopping the weekly specials. However, I do not mind paying a little more if the service is excellent, and they have the products I need. I can say that while we shopped in this store for almost an hour, not one Lowe's employee asked if they could help us. The clerk did not greet us, say thank you for shopping with Lowe's Foods, or even so much as grunt at us while we checked out. To top it off, while we were leaving with our cart full of food, a manager came rushing from the office, and nearly mowed us over, again without a word. If you want groceries, and excellent customer service while you shop, do not shop here. Head to the local competitor. read more

this store is garbage!! they bait and switch the weekly sales EVERY WEEK. the "fresh" clams were all dead. everytime I go there I have to get rain checks, that they put a limit of 2 on them. I went there on a Saturday, thier excuse was its the end of the same week, sales runs wed to tues. went there today (wed), the excuse for being out is that its seafood. been there on Thursdays and they were out of chicken, been there on a thur, fri and Tuesday in the same week and they were out of pork shoulder. to top it off, the managers are rude and act like they are doing you a favor. I will take food lion in calabash, bi-lo, Kroger,and super walmart in north myrtle any day over this pile of trash. read more
