I love this county park mainly for the dog park! Separation for breeds with a water faucet, poop…read morebags, trash cans and gated entry for both areas. They have small, large and an area for shy/lazy dogs. All of these areas are massive!!! The bathroom by the dog park is just a porta potty but in the actual park across the street are building bathrooms. The park is always super well landscaped. The trails aren't marked very well but if you walk from picnic area one (by the office) to the entrance and back it's about 1 miles and paved. I personally haven't tried any camping there or the beach but I have heard it is super nice. The beach is dog friendly too!

They do need to work a little better on parking signage! That would be the only feedback since it is labeled for boats and seems like that is the only type of parking that can take place in the lot. So we drove in circles a little bit, but then saw a park worker who was able to point us in the right direction. We also came across park staff on the beach and they were very nice as well.

There's a nice interpretive booklet that helps explain numbered highlights. There's a cool decaying building over the springs, which was purely ornamental, the springs works whether its covered or not. The Petit (Pabst) family owned the property and put in a lot of features like a circular wading pool, a gazebo. The springs were bottled and sold until the 1960s, and another owner ran water powered electric in the early 1900s; the first house with electricity in the area. The pond is stocked w/Brook Trout for catch and release only. And across the way there's an old homestead from the 1860s which is in great condition. This is a nice short hike with lots to learn about.

We went cross country skiing with rentals from Nordic Specialists located in the Evergreen Shelter next to the Evergreen lodge. Entry is with a fee or free with your purchase annual WI State parks pass. Not too far from the city, this place has the solitude and nature getaway not too far from the city. Xski rentals were $30 for classic ski that came with shoes poles and skis for two hours. It's also nice in the summer for getting a hike in whether you want a short one or a challenging long hike. There's also an observatory tower you can hike up flights of stairs for a nice view! The evergreen lodge is new and spacious to stay warm during the winter or cool in the shade in the off-winter time.

There's a decent…read moreplayground too, so if you're kids are like ones I know and they complain about how tired they are after amazingly biking 8 miles they can run around like monkeys for another 1/2 hour. Also there's a good sled hill, and looks like plenty of trails for cross-country skiing. Also in these snowy times the bugline is the domain of snowmobiles. Just be careful at the crossing of Lake Five Road and the bugline, there are a lot of bike collisions here according to the state statistics. Don't add to them, drive and bike carefully!

My second time renting from Beachside Boat & Bait. Great experience. They make the whole process…read morevery simple and smooth. The employees are super helpful and friendly. The boat was great. Extremely well-maintained and clean. This time one of my guests (I won't name names) lowered one of the boat's anchors, and it came untied. It sank to the bottom of the lake and we couldn't retrieve it. We were a little worried that we'd have to pay for it, but the staff at Beachside was extremely understanding and cool about it. Will definitely rent from Beachside again!

Regardless, the launch ramp makes dropping in on a kayak or canoe a breeze. The ramp is a beautiful addition & the only Handicap Accessible launch anywhere along the North end of the Milwaukee River. The park offers nice grassy areas, but no picnic tables or facilities of any kind. The parking lot is newly paved with plenty of spots. A paved path leads from the lot down to the boat launch. There is a 270' total of public accessible shoreline. Beyond that are residential properties with scattered scenic views of native prairie grass, wetlands & oak savannas.

Frisbee golf? You got it. Golf golf? You got it. Sledding? You got it. XX Skiiing. BYO, but got that too! Hiking here is a pleasure, and there are so many trails and different types of landscapes. Blue Loop is a wooded wonderland. But is there a way around the Yellow Loop without having to walk on water? LMK! Can't wait to get back to Whitnall Park.

This trail is an excellent alternative to the longer, more strenuous nearby Scuppernong Trails just…read moreeast of here. But unlike those color coded trails, there's more to see along this 1.2 mile trail. Some of the springs are just mesmerizing. Seeing water bubble up from underwater sands is almost hypnotic. Other springs flow out of the ground and hillsides. Although shorter than even the shortest of the neighboring trails, definitely plan on spending an hour here, you'll be stopping often to take in the many features along the trail.

The Scuppernong Springs Nature Trail, across from the Ottawa Lake Recreation Area check in, is an…read moreeasy hike featuring dozens of natural springs, and the remnants of an old marl works plant. Differing from the other more wooded Scuppernong Trail, the Springs Nature trail is unique in its spring features and history. It's a really unique feature. This is an easy unique hike that the whole family can enjoy.
