I brought my 4 year to play with friends,…read moreand my 10 year old was going to sit with me and play on his tablet - he is too old to play and did not want to. I was advised if my 10 year old was to remain in the building, that I would have to PAY THE FULL PRICE for him to be there. I assured the staff that he had no interest in playing, and that he was going to play video games on his tablet. They told me without paying for the 10 year old to sit on a chair, we would not be allowed in. Absolutelt ridiculous and not accommodating what so ever.

This place is part theme park/part play place. I spent three hours with the kids and I still had to pull them out at the end when the place was closing and there were things we ran out of time to try. There is so much to do: slides, places to climb, crawl. jump, shoot each other with soft foam balls (?) basically all the activities kids love to do in the cold weather when it is hard to find a place for them. Parents of toddlers note: there is a separate area for toddlers so they don't get bowled over by bigger kids. For the parents, there is Wifi and about a dozen comfy chairs at the front where parents can watch over the play structure. Plus a cafe with hot drinks and foods tailored for the kiddos. I gave them five stars-- my first experience was that positive-- but a few things stuck out to me: the play structure is huge and it can be easy to lose sight of your kids. It would be helpful if they had video cameras set up and screen set up in the parent section so it was easier to keep an eye on your kids. Also, I get that having the monopoly on food is a money maker but it would be nice to allow people to bring their own; particularly since there didn't seem to be any gluten free items on the menu. I was also surprised that the air guns in the ball area are as loud as they are. I would be a bit wary of effects on hearing over long term use. And a finally, big one for me is that they need some kind of membership pricing options asap. They just opened and are obviously working out the kinks. And at $12.99 for 5+ years olds and $9.99 for toddlers the prices are higher, than any of the existing play places, but this place has it all and you could easily spend they day there and not get bored. There is no comparison! I know we will be living here until Spring.

Now that spring is showing its sunny little face around these parts, I feel compelled to run, skip and dance my way down to the field and play about until night fall. The Common is such a lovely plot of communal land for all to share and is especially wonderful for those of us who don't have back yards to play in. Yesterday morning, I enjoyed a brief yoga session with myself prior to work. Since I cross the land everyday I head downtown, I felt that not stopping yesterday when it was so epically beautiful out would have been a travesty. I love that this space is available to all who wish to use it. You don't need to ask anyone if you can do hand stands or throw a ball around, it's just there waiting for you to visit - no permission needed. In the summer, I walk a couple of blocks blanket in hand, and set up shop on the grass. With my notebook I could lay all day, writing and watching the people pass. On most days, you can find friendly dogs chasing sticks, and on some special afternoons you can watch kites tipping and dipping across the sky. Oh Common, thank you for being such a consistent sunny day companion.

As well the Commons has hosted a few concerts such as Kiss and this summer is the Black Eyed Peas. The Commons itself is a large grassy area that is cut with baseball diamonds on each corner and in the summer time are normally stocked with baseball teams having a blast. In the surrounding area there is a playground that houses alot of little creatures meaning kids running around on any given day. Great slides and monkey bars to swings and tunnels. As well it also has that spongy turf under it so when the kids falls from running they do not skin their knees. Right beside that is the Skateboard park that will always leave you gasping when they do their jumps and flips on the boards and bikes. All these areas seem to be growing in popularity. One suggestion that I would like to make to the city is to put in more benches so that the [parents can sit down.

When you come upon the entrance to the park, you will notice two little beds filled with veggies. As far as I can tell, this is a public garden kept up by locals for all to enjoy. Feel free to pull some weeds and plant something sweet, or else harvest a veggie or two to enjoy. After swinging the bat and climbing the monkey bars, set up shop on the grass with a blanket and a book, taking in some cloud watching and drifting into an early evening cat nap. This is a gem of a park, tucked into a quiet neighborhood. If you're looking for a fun place to head with the dog or the kids, or simply all by your lonesome, I recommend this sweet little knoll.

The wood frame that surrounds the play structure is rotten and you can literally pick at it and get slivers. Not the safest thing for little hands. Dog off-leash area is next to it. If your kids are like mine who are terrified of dogs of all sizes, not the best place to be, because some dogs are friendly and want to say Hi to every one at the playground. Last time my husband went there with the kids and they discovered dog dung on the slide. Ewwwwww. I really hope the City will update this playground soon.
