They also let you bring in food. My biggest tip would be to sit in the outer part of the row. The seats gave me flashbacks of being on an airplane. It was a tight squeeze getting out. Literally nobody was moving and then there was this random ballon and some guy's feet. I ended up tripping on someone's foot. And plummeting to my almost death. Embarrassing. During the middle of the film and with a small crowd, the racquet could not me missed. So I'm saving you from any future embarrassment ahead of time. The movie I picked was "B Movie: Lust and Sound in West Berlin 1979-1989" documentary. I have been trying to see this film for over two years. It captures the essence of life in Berlin in the eighties. It was truly a magical and creative space where musicians and artists would come from all over to experience. You will spot famous young baby versions of Tilda Swinton, Nick Cave, Blixa Bargeld, Keith Haring and many more. I love the music during that time in Germany so live footage of Malaria, Abwärts and Einstürzende Neubaten was incredible. I will definitely be returning with Vannesa's dumplings in hand and my seat in the outer row. Thanks Spectacle for still caring about film and sharing it with us. Like a young Meryl Streep. The theater we saw her production in was a fairly basic black box theater. It was very full the night we went. I think there are 3-4 rows level with the stage and these are not ideal. Because anything happening upstage and you're in the 3rd row, you can't see it. So, yes you could argue it's a staging issue but that's not the whole thing. Other than that fairly sparse affair. Clean. Seemed to be well managed.

All seats looked to have great views in general, perhaps the side view seats a bit harder but with the way the staging is set up it's easy to be able to get a good view. The acoustics are also great, amplifying the actresses voices well and thus is also located right under the Brooklyn Bridge, so lots of fun restaurants and things to do in the area before a show. Highly recommend if you want a different change of pace from the Broadway lights.

They have an exhibit, and I love the statue of Biggie! Ticket check-in was easy, but we were early so we waited around. The bathroom I went to while waiting wasn't in the best condition. It was clean, but noticeably worn for sure. And soap was spilled all over one of the sinks. The theater where the show took place was also nice -- spacious stage, and I was lucky to be right in the middle with a perfect view. There was a screen in the background of the stage where videos were occasionally played introducing the performers. But the surface was textured to a point where it was a strain on the eyes watching it. Otherwise, if there's ever a show you want to see here, check it out. They turn the waiting area into a nice reception after too!

Though the films are always subject to opinion, the concept of Rooftop Films is utterly brilliant…read more Sitting a top of the concrete jungle of Brooklyn to view an independent / short film(s) with the backdrop of the urban landscape is a nice alternative to the corporate-run theatre experience. Follow it up with a potential after-party or cocktail hour and an opportunity to socialize with the film's crew, and RF becomes a gateway for a night to remember. For the most part, the experience is extremely well organized. There is a group of staff members who help keep the crowds moving all the way from check-in to the seat. The layout of the seats is organized as such to where everyone should have a decent view of the screen itself. Depending on the film and makeup of the crowd, most folks are generally quiet and respectful throughout the screening. Acoustics are good and the picture quality is solid for an outdoor viewing. Of course, this is all possible due to their levels of membership, which ranges from $40 to as much as $250 a year. Every level has different benefits, which include everything from entry status to line priority for summer series movies. It may sound a bit much but it's not a far departure from the regular movie theatres where the prices are slowly creeping up all the time. Attend enough screenings and the deals actually quite solid. Naturally, there are some pitfalls that folks should be aware of: * It's outside. When high up, this means it could be really chilly during the night. Bring adequate protection, like a blanket, or another layer to stay warm. You're also at the mercy of the weather. Rainy days, snowy ones, may result in a screening being moved. Also, sometimes the hipsters will bust out a cig and ignore all rules as if they're Chuck Norris. Someone will happily rat out that person, that is, till they rat themselves out ::cue puff of smoke::: * Sometimes people are distracting. This isn't stadium seating unfortunately with premium surround sound. But someone's big head in the way is not as bad as someone hooting and hollering in the theater. * On occasion, some films will bore you to pieces. This is just the nature of film in general. I can't get mad at it. I'm not imploring everyone to become a member, but I will say that it's worth checking out Rooftop Films when given the chance. If you love the arts and feel like supporting the community, then I would recommend becoming a member (of any level) and check out more films as they become available. And of course, if you're not willing to come to Brooklyn, RF has expanded to where screenings are happening in Manhattan *and* in Queens. Everyone wins. Except kids. Leave them at home.
