Beijing black bean (without rice)
Matthew B.

Loving Hut is one of those places that you kinda have to experience - and you'll either really like it, or think it's meh - so I'll keep this brief. But it's ultimately rarely dissatisfying, and most people I know enjoy it, and return. First things first - Loving Hut is a world-wide chain, owned my individuals, and is always 100% vegan. This stems from a religious philosophy, as most staff/owners are followers of Supreme Master Ching Hai - who promotes the "Quan Yin Method", a style of meditation. Now. This kinda explains the buddhist TV network ambiance of the place. They don't ever hassle you or attempt to promote their beliefs (which I'd find very uncomfortable), other than the TVs on the walls, which are "Supreme Master TV" - interviews with Ching Hai and her affiliates, cooking shows, news, etc. Now, you know it - let's forget it and let the food speak for itself ;). Loving Hut is cheerful, and damn cheap. The service isn't particularly good (it's not deliberate, it's just that the staff aren't exactly hospitalty professionals), the timings are sometimes a bit off (meaning, sometimes you'll wait an hour after everyone has finished their main to get your entree) and it's kind of like a cafeteria - where you get your own napkins, cutlery, glasses, and water. 95% of the menu is around $10. But the food is good, and I like the place. The owners have kind hearts, and the staff are sweet in an awkward kind of way. Think fresh, crisp vegetables, delicious sauces, and a range of vegetable proteins - ranging from veggie meats (not termed as such), to soy strips, and tofu. They're all satisfying, unobtrusive, and not weird at all. Most meals come with rice - and for $1 extra, you can choose brown rice. Based on what myself and guests have enjoyed, my recommendations are as follows: entrees - northern pan bread, cream cheese wontons & the deep fried mushroom (OMG OMG OMG SO GOOD). For mains: the peking luck (do it yourself, based on peking duck wraps), crispy yum (kind of like sweet and sour pork with a very sweet, almost tamarind sauce), beijing black bean (just like beef and black bean), satay nuggets (not a very traditional satay sauce, and kind of thin, but chickeny, and yum), or if you're feeling brave, the 10 Wonders - which is kind of like Bibimbap. They've got a Brisbane City Council 5 Star Food Safety rating, and I just checked their Urbanspoon page, and not *one* person has written to say they don't like it (other than one, in error). It's definitely worth a try, and you can't go wrong with that freshness for those prices.

Pei King Luck

Oh My God. This is a most amazing vegan joint I have been to in Australia. Friendly and happy staff. And then the food is so good, Haven't got any of the of the mains yet, But the snacks were so, so, so good. I would recommend the salt & pepper tofu, satay stick, but the highlight of the teats was the Pei King Luck. Planning my next trip there as I type. lol... A must for vegy and vegans.

90) had soy nuggets which aren't quite as convincing, but still have a nice meaty texture to them.

Interesting how there isn't a review yet for this place…read more My family has been coming here for years, especially my parents. The Chinese food here is authentic Cantonese style. My parents like to order their steamed fish which isn't cheap but it is so good. The "sang choy bao" or lettuce wraps are really good, very flavorful, and there usually isn't enough of it to go around. I want at least 2 cups but usually, there is only 1 for each person. The thin fried noodles (vegetarian) -- "see yau wong chow meen" -- is stellar! Perfectly dry like it should be and flavor-packed. The only thing I didn't love was the crispy skin chicken. The skin wasn't really crispy. Each time I go home, this is one of those restaurants where we will go for at least one meal. It's good to know that it's remained consistent through the years.

Here's why: - Warm welcome from the charming and funny manager upon entry. - Were introduced to George the fish (we sat next to his tank). - Very friendly, smiling wait staff had nice chats with us whenever they brought something to the table. - Complimentary prawn crackers were served as a starter while we perused the menu. - They make the best salt and pepper tofu ever (speaking as someone who doesn't usually like tofu). - Delicious braised chicken with cashews and sizzling Mongolian beef. Best in town! - Nice atmosphere and full of happy diners having the best time!

Awesome place! As a family, we made a reservation for the 11 of us this past Saturday night to…read morecelebrate my grandmas 80th birthday. I really loved the decor inside, everything seemed authentic and looked very well put together. We did have a large round table which really didn't give much room around us but we appreciated the fact they accommodated our large group as best as they could. My dad and I ordered the pork spring rolls to begin, they were so good! Don't know what was so good and different about them but I could've eaten lots more. We all ordered our own mains with the intention of sharing between us all. I don't remember the exact name of my dish but it was #37 which was a lamb stir fry. I didn't even want to share it was that good, cooked and seasoned to perfection. I tried a few different curries that were at the table and can't say one bad thing about any of them. Our servers were quick and polite, although not fluent in English. We brought a cake for my grandma which she didn't know about, the waitress was nice enough to keep it in the kitchen for us and brought it out with the candle lit when we asked. Overall I enjoyed this experience as a first-timer, however, the plates that were brought out with our cake were not very clean. This really upset my dad, there was rice on 97% of the dessert plates. I didn't consider it a huge deal but it was a bit odd. They do charge $6 for corkage! BYO wine only. I am looking forward to the next time I get to go here!

I've been to this restaurant about 3 times now, all for birthdays or special events with my…read moregirlfriends. We've always had to book and the centre where the actual restaurant is gets super busy at night, so it's tough to get a park. So book early... because if you don't book you just might be staring through the window or waiting a very long time. The prices here are on the expensive side with although if you have 4 or more people it's $30 for a banquet and they are very reasonable. Let's get this straight. You go to a Thai restaurant and you order the Pad Thai. The one here is magnificent. The ingredients finely chopped, good amounts of noodle and filling and the sauce compliments everything addictively, so you just want to eat more. It's probably a good thing that this dish always fills you up if you have it by itself and for $18.90 you'd really want it to. Also try the Pad Num Mun Hoi with beef (bamboo shoots, mushrooms and shallots) because it's delicately seasoned and very yummy with some coconut rice. This restaurant is pretty, it's got Thai ornaments all over the joint and the staff wear traditionaly Thai outfits to serve. It's a great taste to go on a first or second or third date.

Never eaten any African food before my boyfriend insisted that we go and try it one day (he's a fan…read moreof their food). This small restaurant is tucked into a small shopping centre. The decoration, various paintings and portraits from Ethiopia add to an authentic feel. We ordered both the combination vegetarian and combination meat platters which came served on one plate on top of injera (an airy, light, stretchy Ethiopian bread made from teff flour). The way to eat is traditionally with your hands although they do provide cutlery. You can also ask for more injera if you run out of bread! The various curries all have an earthy flavour but are distinctive. There was a spicy beef, lamb, chicken and vegetables were lentils, carrots, potatoes and spinach. Surprisingly, we were very full after finishing our platter although it didn't look like much when it was first brought out. There's a few interesting Ethiopian beers which we did not try. The owners are friendly and ask our opinion after our meals. We even ask about injera which we've previously found very difficult to make - and they happily chat to us about it. They obviously love what they do. Unfortunately, for what the meals are, African food always seem to be quite pricey. A great place to try something different.
