This place is so cool. I knew Lovett Deconstruction existed (did you know the city of Portland requires deconstruction rather than demolition?) but I only recently learned that they have this salvage shop. I haven't yet in this lifetime been in need of deconstruction services, but I am often in need of a little tchotchke purchased secondhand. Now it's called a salvage shop, and it does have cool materials available for sale. They've primarily got lumber by the foot, for flooring and siding, which I don't need. But they also have smaller architectural or decorative items - lamps, cabinet hardware, art, grates, vases, etc, etc. A vintage item can add such a "je ne sais quoi" to your home decor and I highly recommend using secondhand for a sense that a place is truly lived-in and has a story. But half the shop, or maybe more, is more like a museum! The owner of Lovett has these incredible collections on display here, from baseball bats to thermoses to first aid kits to cassette tapes to old pencil sharpeners. They're arranged like art and are ever-growing. They're not for sale and in fact the owner says they're priceless. If ever you get a chance to hear the owner speak about his collections, it's clear he's passionate about his work and he sees the story behind every single item: a baseball bat isn't just a piece of wood, it's someone's childhood. I really enjoyed visiting this store, both because of my love for thrift as well as home design/decorating. It's out there in the industrial area but worth a visit. This place is a picker's dream. And I'm not even a picker. Immaculate curation. Amazing collections of things you'd never think of. Incredible vintage pieces. Knowledgeable, friendly, fun staff. Free coffee. You could go to this place 100 times and always find something new. Whatever home project you're working on, you've got to stop by and see how this place can take it to the next level. We had no knowledge this even existed. We were just driving by and it looked cool so we wanted to see what it was. Turns out, it's a whole amazing thing. First off they have saved all the cool stuff from reclaimed buildings. But that's not all, the store ALSO has the owners collections which are both eccentric and brilliant. Collection of 200+ vintage metal trucks... Check.... Dozens and dozens of different first aid kits... Check. Pencil sharpeners.... Keys... Fan blades.... Covers from old pull start lawn mowers.... Check. Check. And Check. They also have just fun stuff like a free photo/fortune telling booth. Pin ball. Portland grown coffee.... OH And a secret garden. Please, do yourself a favor and spend a few minutes at this shop, the people are wonderful and supporting local business is a must! read more

Hello YELP, Long time listener it has been a long time since my last entry. I recently needed to find some wood to finish a project. The place that I had been getting my wood no longer carried the sticks that I needed. Enter Lovett Decon. . . I called ahead and they shared that they had what I needed. Apprehensive, I went to the shop not knowing what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. The people were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and the place was an odyssey! I went from pessimistic to happy upon walking into the warehouse. They not only had the wood I wanted, but things I had not even considered I needed. But I cannot say enough about the jaw-dropping Salvage Shop on St. Helens Rd. It is a feast for the eyes! Salvage repurposed, reimagined and recreated into delightful works of art. I have a patio that is enclosed and the enclosure was beyond its lifespan and was in danger of collapsing. The only place I could find that would even respond to my queries was Lovett. I wont lie, working with the city of portland was a pain in the rear but working with Lovett made the experience quite tolerable. They were patient with me and took the time to explain my questions and to calm any fears I had about getting the job done. The last worker just left and the job was completed in a bit over three hours. The patio enclosure is gone, the patio was left broom clean and I am nothing short of amazed at these guys. I would not hesitate one minute to recommend them to anyone needing a bit of deconstruction work done. Thanks to Russell and the crew at Lovett Deconstruction for a job well done. We replaced a very old creaky lead- paint laden staircase in our home a couple of years ago. We got several bids for the demo that were significantly more than the cost to REPLACE the staircase. We are talking upwards of $7500 for three days of work! Lovett's bid was MUCH more reasonably priced, they did an excellent job, AND completed three days work in two. We were so relieved and pleased to have found them. I recommend them strongly! read more
