I celebrated my birthday this year by taking the day off from work and visiting several local businesses that I've wanted to check out for a long time. I love thrifting and estate sale shopping, so Community Warehouse was an excellent choice for me on this special day. I love Community Warehouse's mission! It's a nonprofit furniture bank that collects home goods and redistributes them to those in need. The warehouse space in the back accepts furniture donations, and houses a large collection of pieces for their program. There is also a retail space in the front of the building where visitors can peruse estate sale home goods like furniture and decor. There is a wide variety of products to choose from, and everything I saw was in excellent condition. The store is pleasantly curated, and prices are fair and well-marked. I purchased a nightstand, and found many other items that may draw me back to the store sooner than later. I'm pleased to add Community Warehouse to my regular rotation of home goods stores I frequent. read more

It's ok. Definitely not a "thrift store". They get some really good things, but holy cow, their online prices are astronomical. Prices in the store tend to be slightly more reasonable, but they are creeping up as well. I understand that they use the funds for community services, which I love, but unfortunately, my friends and I can no longer afford to spend money there. Sadly, I think my days of shopping here are over. Bums me out because I loved being able to find good, affordable items while contributing to a great cause. Now it's just no longer affordable. The location is extremely convenient and it is actually the easiest process I've ever had regarding dropping off donations, especially larger ones like pieces of furniture. Be on the look-out for last minute gouging. We provided photos and pre identified what we wanted taken away and was given a quote for already a high price. When they arrived they added on a $70 "Recycle Fee". Moving guys were fine. We will never use this company again. read more

About a week ago, I helped a neighbor take in a really nice table and chair set, to the **new Gresham** location and it couldn't' gone any smoother. It was actually quite enjoyable! We were greeted and assisted by a wonderful staff member whose initials are AJ (indicated on the receipt). He complimented the set and got right to work helping us onload it. He completely answered our questions about the new location and other items that they are looking for, to help people who are rebuilding their homes and their lives. He was truly passionate about his role, and it showed. As a Portland native, I have donated several items over the years to Goodwill, ARC, Habitat for Humanity, and to Our House/the Cascade Aids Project. There have been a few hiccups with the first three, declining items once I arrived; ARC telling me their website was wrong and they really don't accept camping gear, Habitat for Humanity declining an armoire because one of the doors needed work on a hinge, Goodwill declining a perfectly good futon because the painted frame made a faint gray stripe. I've donated to them a lot of my used storage bins I no longer needed, small furniture items, ottomans, bedding, towels, kitchen household appliances that i no longer sued since i upgraded, and old light fixtures. Everyone has always been pretty friendly when I stopped by and thanked me for the donations. I did look at their website prior to donating to understand what they are willing to take and what they wouldnt, things that wouldnt take I made a 2nd stop to goodwill. Overall i've had a good experience with them and will continue to support them. read more

Community Warehouse is a charity that helps so many people. It provides free house goods to people who need assistance starting over, getting started, or getting away from bad situations. They have a big purple warehouse on Interstate, almost across from Widmer Gasthaus. Pull up and a friendly staff member will help you unload your car. Check out their website, they really need pots, pans, alarm clocks, blankets, as well as other household goods. I dropped off two sets of dishes, serving platters, pans, and other things that we just don't need or use, but can help make a home for somebody else. You can get a receipt for taxes, but make sure you have a list of what you are bringing. I brought a bag with pans and it was marked as "misc. household goods," and to deduct donations it helps to be able to claim exactly what you donated. The website says they receive donations Monday through Friday, but they are now open 7 days a week, from the conversation with the lady from the Warehouse that I met at Cracked Pots. They will pick up your goods, but do ask for 10 bucks to help defray gas costs. This is a great option if you are donating furniture, as it saves you the effort of hauling it. Let me tell you about one of my favorite places in the world. It's full of incredible steamer trunks, lovely artwork, fun vintage postcards, midcentury modern furniture, unique teacups, and affordable mason jars. This place will eat up a good chunk of your paycheck after your first visit, but you will get so many amazing things for such a good price. All the while they are doing good things for their community. This place is Community Warehouse. But in all seriousness, this place is incredible. I'm having a vintage style wedding and I had planned to rent most of the items for it, but I found everything I needed here cheaper than the rental cost and I get to keep everything. The volunteers are great, it's very organized and clean and they always have something new. P.S. I also snatched the best steamer trunk away from an unsuspecting couple when they were measuring if it would fit in their car. If you don't put something officially on hold I might be lurking ready to snatch it away from you and ruin your dreams. You've been warned. :) read more

I attempted to donate a nice sofa and two futons with matching pillows. I protected them, put them in my truck and drove across town to deliver them myself. I was greeted with reprehensible disdain. I was told that because there were a few hairs on the sofa I could only take it away, vacuum it myself and then if brought back to Community Warehouse "...might.." be willing to accept. They explicitly refused to do anything themselves and were unwilling and unable to spend three minutes cleaning. The person I talked to was arrogant, very ungrateful and with no apology or concern for the effort I went to to bring multiple very nice items to them. I will certainly never donate anything to Community Warehouse and will never recommend them to anyone. Period, end of story. read more

I had such a smooth experience with everyone at Community Warehouse. I donated over a dozen items that belonged to my deceased mother. It was so easy to communicate and schedule a pick-up. The process was super clear. And the folks who came to pick-up everything couldn't have been nicer or more considerate - even wiping their feet each time they entered my home for another piece of furniture. Their Motto "Used Goods to Good Use" and they have it going on. I was informed of this organization in May of 2016, when my Father passed away. Funny enough, we found their name and phone # in "his address book". Maybe he was "looking ahead". Once we started the process of cleaning up my Father's One Bedroom Apartment, we realized we were pretty "overwhelmed" at the amount of furniture we needed to dispose of as well as your typical household items from can openers to alarm clocks. Some of which we were able to sell and give to friends or transport back to San Francisco, but a fair amount still remained. It was in good enough condition, we thought, my gawd, someone could use this. Hence, the first phone call to Community Warehouse. They were so lovely when we spoke to them, we thought, this is "IT", we will make our donation here. Biggest reason being, they help provide the basic needs of setting up a home from Silverware and Pots and Pans to any and all furniture one might need if they were "starting over", no questions asked and NO FEE !!!!! When you have "nothing" you often don't have the financial means "to purchase" from the ground up. Could you imagine if "you had to start over" ! So we loaded up all the furnishings we had including kitchen utensils and the like and headed on over. They were beyond gracious to receive this donation and we were "beaming" that we could do this for them and any and all who needed their help. The warehouse was immaculately maintained and organized by category. They told us what we had donated would be gone in just a few days, as the need is so great. Any items that are "in exceptional shape" and possibly worth a few bucks are sold in their showroom and this money also goes back to help support their organization. In fact, we bought a couple items from the store. We love helping and never pass up a good deal. Yippee.. one more thing to ship home :-) Be advised, they can also "pick up" your unwanted items if you make an appointment. If you are looking to pick up free or cheap stuff this is the place to go. If you are looking to donate, not so much. They raised their pick up fees to $30 and they still will not assist in taking things down stairs so you have to hire someone to help with that. Plus they want the stuff outside AND dry. In the Pacific Northwest. So there is maybe a couple of months in the summer you can donate. It is now cheaper to throw furniture out then to donate. Way to go Portland. read more

Donate only if you have pristine furniture with a day to spare and an extra $35 for the privilege. We scheduled a donation at which point they told us they'd call the day before with a time to expect them. No call. They show up, tell me my car is in the way, and then tell me they can't take the items due to damage. Thanks for making this clear up front. Thanks for not calling. Because I had the whole day to just wait around. Thanks for making expectations clear and then telling me to pay for the privilege. I love the mission of the program. Not only does this place provide a fantastic community service to folks in need of furniture and housewares, but they also raise some money for their work by running a thrift store on the weekends. They pick some of the nicest items that are donated to sell for still very good prices to folks who can afford it. It's called the Estate Sale and it's open 10am-4pm Saturday and Sunday. The staff is very friendly and helpful, they'll even help you load a heavy item into your car. I go every weekend to see what's new. read more

I visited the garage sale side and found a flower pot and a case for my piano for under $6. Then, I went to the estate sale side and saw many beautiful pieces of furniture at reasonable prices, many vintage options plus some great art work. First if your on the board you shouldn't be writing a review. Also referring agencies are billed for the house goods their clients receive it is NOT FREE. It took around 2 weeks to get my order and I wondered who would ever think someone would want to be the receiver of my order ie. broken tv without converter box, marred purple tub without the lid for a laundry basket, 2 mismatched pieces of dinnerware, etc. On the way to the car a staff started SCREAMING at me, Get a clue who would STEAL any of this junk! read more

The Community Warehouse has an Estate Sale Store and a Garage Sale area where they sell items they feel don't fit their client donation needs. I have found some great deals on cool stuff from both of these areas. I have a stunning chair that was donated by a major interior store that looks great in my home. I have small tools I have found in the Garage Sale area along with some glassware. I stop by at least twice a month just to see what new things come in. I also donate any household goods I no longer use. These guys do a wonderful job providing goods to families in need. This is one of the best non profits I have ever worked with, I wish them years of success. Our city is a much better place because of Community Warehouse! read more
