As with so many others of these Love's Travel Stops, this one is located right next to the interstate. In this case, I-90 between Rochester and La Crosse. It is consistent with others too. Easy access, brightly lit and clean pump area, room for parking. Inside, clean restrooms were nice to see. The convenience store is stuffed with all sorts of snacks and drinks, coffee and slushees, hot dogs and other rolled meats, fountain drinks. It's a good stop. I stop here for fuel when returning from WI. Today I decided to use their app for $0.10 off/gallon. Twice I tried to scan my phone at the pump, it'd read "unable to scan". So I went inside and asked cashier Ashley for assistance. She was able to scan the code and told me when it doesn't work at the pump for her dad, he keys in the code. I didn't know that was an option. Even more than her assistance... being a germaphob, I appreciated what she told me to press instead of touching my phone. I know... Only ever really buy beef jerky and gas from love's but both are bomb. You should try it. Bathroom Rating: 6/10 Plenty of stalls, clean inside, fully filled with TP and seat covers, mellow music. Not much more to ask for in a gas station bathroom imo. Not a huge fan of the foot gap above and below the doors. Automatic sinks and paper towel dispensers ensure you don't have to touch the door on the way out, all in all, would recommend this bathroom. read more

Huge racist vibes from this location so Black/Hispanic drivers beware. Literally every white person that worked here was either rude or gave me unwelcoming glares. I walked in for a shower, this one white guy was staring at me, I asked "you good?" He was staring at me as if there was a problem, and never broke his stare all the way until I got to the showers. Mind you he didn't even greet me (like most loves do when you walk in), he just stared and thats it, no smile or anything. Then he mumbled something on his walkie talkie wire thing that they have clipped to their shirt. My shower was cold so I walked out, I decided to go to one of the showers that was being cleaned to ask another employee (because I didn't feel comfortable approaching the guy at the front fuel desk) If the water was hot in the shower that they were cleaning. He too looked unwelcoming and as if they didn't want to help me. Looked at me in disgust. He mouthed something his wire walkie talkie, then a white lady showed up saying other people are complaining about the water too and that she was going to check the water heater. She left in a hurry before I could ask for some type of refund so I decided to take my chance and talk to the white guy at the fuel desk but he was nowhere to be found. I saw two more employees on the other side of the store, one at the register, another stocking items. I approached the stocker because the guy at the register was with a customer and he also had a nasty attitude with an unpleasant look on his face, I told him he had a nasty attitude and ill just wait in line to talk to the other guy. When I got to the register, I asked the guy what could I do about refunding my shower I already paid for, he also came off rude and unwelcoming, I told him about my experience there so far as attitudes go, "am I not welcomed at this store? Like whats really the problem?" He told me no and to speak with the assistant manager about my shower. When I walked off, the guy stocking items mumbled something under his breath, I just ignored him. I met with the assistant manager. She couldn't refund it, which I let slide but it was worth a try. I also told her about her employees attitudes here. As soon as Im doing so, the first white guy comes from nowhere and is still starring at me the entire time as if he's never seen a black person before I continued to ignore him, I really hate to be the one that would make a scene. The assistant manager was nice and claims she would talk to them about it. Im just leaving a review just incase she doesn't and because it was still unsatisfactory, and for other drivers to take caution when coming here. Worst experience at a loves ever! I literally got the vibes that they just don't like black people. Generally speaking, 'big name' travel stops/travel centers such as Loves, Pilot, Flying J, are names well-known for franchise-like sameness and consistency...cleanliness, brands/type of coffee offered, layout of the store, etc. But the Loves in St Charles, MN bucks that trend in an unfortunate way. Stopping there on the afternoon of July 23, 2021, someone had spilt a large quantity of coffee on the carpet mats in front of the coffee dispensers, so you got that nice squishy feeling when stepping up to the dispensers. Now I understand that accidents happen, but when an employee came to deal with the mess, they didn't even put down any orange cones to warn people of the slip/trip/fall hazard. Of course, since the spill was the size of a small lake, I guess it could be considered obvious that there was a mess on the floor, but standard operating procedure is a warning device/sign of some sort on the floor when something like that happens. Uncleaned counter areas around the powdered creamer and sugar dispensers with numerous flies buzzing around was a nice touch as well. $1.98 for a small coffee seemed plenty high; add the scald-the-roof-of-your-mouth temperature and that overheated, uncleaned coffee dispenser taste, and you're in for a coffee-drinking experience bar none. Then let's talk gas/diesel islands. Diesel is much more oily than gasoline, so the pump dispenser handles tend to get dirtier/slimier more quickly than their gasoline counterparts. On the truck fuel islands, this is somewhat of an expected norm, as most truck drivers put on a pair of gloves to protect their hands when fueling their big rigs. (Many years of over-the-road trucking experience myself) But on the car side, the typical automobile motorist getting out of their VW Jetta or Audi diesel or whatever, would not be prepared for slimy, greasy, unkempt mess appearing to be a diesel pump dispensing nozzle. In this area of Minnesota, the Quik Trip stores are a giant amongst convenience store/travel center businesses, and I can say I have yet to get a burnt, scalded, dishwater-tasting cup of coffee at any of them, at any time of the day. From past experiences at a number of Loves locations, I know these conditions are not typical, or at least weren't typical in past visits at different locations. It was a late evening as we traversed eastbound on I-90 on a pleasant night in late September, 2022. My pregnant sister declared another bathroom break was in our near future. I quickly jostled for my cellphone to open up my trusty Google Maps app. Two options a came up just off the interstate south of the quaint town of St. Charles. The two options were BP/Sinclair (a common duo for gas stations here in the Midwest) and a Love's gas station. The obvious answer was the BP/Sinclair as it was south of the interstate and would be the easier option given our direction east. However, something caught my eye. I clicked to see the Love's location (as Google Maps did not have a satellite view image of the physical construct of the building). I wanted to make sure it existed! But what I stumbled on was a review from a gentlemen named Bill. Bill's review was 1 star. The other two reviews were 3 and 4 stars. We had roughly 5 minutes until decision time: Sinclair or Love's. Although I've read Harry Potter books that were shorter than Bill's review of a gas station in Southern Minnesota, I pressed on and finished the entire thing. I was shocked at what I was reading. Dirty floors, coffee EVERYWHERE, icky squishy mats in front of the coffee dispensers, and worst of all? No cones to block off the slippery mess made by previous customers. Now keep in mind, my pregnant sister is with me and my attentive brother-in-law protested Love's. "Slick floors and no cones?" He bellowed. "Not on my watch and not with my wife and unborn child." Being the eternal optimist she's always been, my sister wanted to give Love's a chance to really see how bad this place could be... we took a left and headed north to Love's. Before we could gather our thoughts, we were struck with bright, but not overwhelming, lighting. Lit up refrigerated sections full of every type of drink you could imagine. The warmth and familiar scent of freshly brewed coffee tickled our noses. My sister scurried off to the bathroom with a careless haste as her feet almost glided across the perfectly clean floor. We were greeted with a smile and a "hello" from Jessica at the front. As if we were meant to be there, the hit 1987 track "Heaven Is a Place on Earth" by Belinda Carlisle danced around us as we perused the aisles. We marveled at the fresh food section and neatly packaged fruit/meat combinations. We came for a quick stretch and bathroom break, but we left with a pack of sour gummy worms, a liter of Dasani water, and smiles on our faces. I felt like I might need an energy drink to power through our last 2 hours, but the energy inside the St. Charles, MN Love's Gas Station was all we needed. God bless. read more

stopped to get gas and swiped my card. realized it was not the correct gas for my car and cancelled the transaction on the pump. the transaction did not cancel and my card was charged for the next persons gas. No help from loves to resolve this, even though they have cameras that show this is what happened. I will never stop at another Loves because of this. read more
