All I can say is damn I was really surprised at how much better rest stops are nowadays from what I remember as a kid! This one is climate controlled, clean, recently renovated, and felt safe. I mean we were there in the middle of the day, and I'm not sure I'd stop at any rest stop in the middle of the night, but this one was a good one. While I'm still more likely to stop at a gas station most times, if I need a stop and am near this one I wouldn't hesitate to stop here again.

About six years ago I…read morestayed at the Holiday Inn Express that is across the street and really enjoyed having this Petro nearby for easy access to bottled water and Starbucks. Back then it really was an exemplary stop. Now, the Starbys is gone, there is no replacement, and it really feels aged and lackluster. Does it have decent bathrooms? Yes. Does it have basic necessities? sure. So, it's not a total loss, just kind of sad knowing what it was in the past and the current state of it. Because of this, it's no longer a place we will likely plan on stopping unless we need to in the future.

I like Towanda around rest stops. So what…read more Kansas has some pretty awful rest areas considering what a clean and sparsely populated state it is. This particular one has all kinds of issues. Firstly most of everything closes down at night so you are left with just a convenience store and a gas station. No food and nowhere to sit and no outlets. Which is one of the reasons I was coming here in the first place. Secondly the cops are patrolling all over here, which I suppose is good because it helps you stay safe, but they seemed especially curious about my presence here, and I felt a little creeped out. On the other hand I'm glad that they are keeping people safe while they are sleeping, and I really do like the layout of these rest areas that are in the middle of the highway. They can be a little treacherous for re-entry because you're entering and leaving the fast lane, but I do think it's a great idea to have the plaza be right in the middle and accessible from both sides.

When there's 40 miles between this rest stop and the next gas station on a major traveled highway, you would think that they would do better in making sure that their pumps are repaired and working because people don't stop here for tourism and they certainly don't stop here because the food is good. They stop here for one reason and one reason only to gas up use the restroom and get back on the road. They should focus more on making sure that the needs of the customers are met then just trying to see how many people they can get to come inside. The ac unit in our room was spewing black dust, fuzz and ash all over the bed every day. It was bad and really needs to be cleaned!! That's kind of the issue with this place, everything needs a deep cleaning. Pool and spa- 8 stars. It was nice and we enjoyed the hot tub! Breakfast was exactly what you would expect for a hotel. The breakfast was nice and the area was clean. Noise level here was terrible and we found it difficult to sleep. I think it's due to the cheep/thin windows. We were kept awake all night by freeway noise. This place is RIGHT NEXT to a major freeway, so it's jake breaks all night long. And then you'll wake up to voices in the hall outside your room because there are gaps in the door frame letting in all the noise from the hallway. The noise level here is the main reason for the 2 star rating.

This was the best one I've stayed at! Hands down. I'm not exaggerating when I say the room itself was on par with a full service Marriott. Bonus: the parking lot was super well lit! I felt totally safe coming and going to walk my service dog. And the staff were lovely too! While the hotel has the same footprint as every other Fairfield, this one feels so fresh, new, clean, and with a contemporary twist on the classic Fairfield brand standards that we're all used to. Really enjoyed not having to check in and being able to go directly to my room with the mobile key actually functioning for once. Breakfast was same as it is at every other Fairfield.

Rooms are traditional and nothing spectacular but they are clean, well kept and they smell nice. The king suite has an extra seating area with a couch and work station which is nice. Two big tv's if that's matters and a small fridge and plenty of storage and plugs for devices. Near this hotel is a variety of fast food restaurants, Flyjng J gas station, Walmart, Bomgars, Starbucks and a quick five minutes to downtown McPherson. You can still get a room for $94/night on occasion but rarely over $130/night. Breakfast is to avoid because it's all processed but there is a decent gym and a pool which I have never used. There is a small concessions area near the front with a very limited selection of food and sundries. Angel is the manager and she is great to work with groups and deliver great customer service.

The entire time we were waiting, not one other person came in to check in, so it was slow. She should never have been so far that she could not here us ring the bell, she told us we should have called, there was a sign, as she mentioned, but because there was a bell, we didn't notice the sign. She wasn't in the back, she came from down a hallway, reeking of cigarette smoke, so we assumed she was out smoking. Disgusting.
