All I can say is damn I was really surprised at how much better rest stops are nowadays from what I remember as a kid! This one is climate controlled, clean, recently renovated, and felt safe. I mean we were there in the middle of the day, and I'm not sure I'd stop at any rest stop in the middle of the night, but this one was a good one. While I'm still more likely to stop at a gas station most times, if I need a stop and am near this one I wouldn't hesitate to stop here again.

While in Wilson, we spotted the Midland Railroad Hotel and Restaurant and decided to arrange the itinerary for our next trip so we could spend the night in WIlson. So, we arrived late afternoon and got checked in. The hotel has been restored to what it was like around the 1920's but with full upgrades including fire sprinklers, air conditioning, etc. Our room was a bit on the small side (1920'ish) but was quite comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and we got a great night's sleep. The was a complimentary breakfast in the morning that consisted mostly of local bakery projects, meats and cheeses. If you looking for modern amenities or a full HOT breakfast, you should stick with the major hotel chains. BUT, if you're into history and histrorical restorations, this place can't be beat. We thoroughly enjoyed our night in Wilson at the Midland Railroad Hotel and Restaurant.

Consequently, it is easy to find yourself low on fuel occasionally. It seems to me that during those moments there was typically a Love's around the corner. This Love's is right outside the town of McPherson . It is not the largest Love's I have been to and it is geared more for big rigs than passenger cars, UT they do have pumps for both. They also have a Hardee's attached to it, so if you want grab a burger, there is that! I just grabbed some snacks and a drink inside the convenience store section. The store was clean and the employees were down home and freidly people. I would not hesitate to stop here on future trips to Kansas.

Several years ago, I said anything South of Lakeville stretch. I hoped things changed. Easily a place ICE would be welcomed and people randomly targeted. Following a shower behind a disheartening shower curtain I came out and found a large insect crawling on my pillow and blood on the sheets. We immediately booked another room at another location. Abandoned and boarded up inn next door, this one looks rundown as well. Our door doesn't lock, deadbolt, and wood around it looks like it has been kicked in more than once. Hole with rusty water on the floor under the sink. Fridge is unplugged and moldy and the carpet is wet in more than one place. Also offered free welcome drink which never happened, free bottled water which never happen and free wifi which basically was non-existent.... did get a free show from the intervention tweekers that were literally shooting up near the dumpster across from my room ... called front desk whom didn't care oh yeah on my own phone because room lacked that too.
