I stayed at this Inn the night before visiting the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum. This…read moreInn is definitely in the perfect location as far as proximity to the Museum goes - it's just down the street. Perfect! The Inn prefers that you check in during a certain time period so they can ensure they're there to greet you. I had a meeting that resulted in a late arrival on my part, so I called ahead to let them know when I would be arriving and they accommodated easily and kindly. When you arrive, you park at the back of the residence, but you enter at the front of the residence. Those with mobility issues should take note and plan ahead for that. Along that same line, this property does not appear to be wheelchair accessible. All of the rooms I saw were upstairs and the entrance required several stairs to access the porch. However, I may have just not seen other options - calling ahead to ask may be best to make sure. I was greeted by Adrian, who checked me in and showed me around. She was very attentive about what I could/would eat for breakfast the next morning, which implies a lot of experience on her part and being conscientious about not wasting food. I definitely appreciated that. I stayed in the Hurd Room, which was perfect for my needs. I was there in October and the room had a small space heater provided for use, which I was very very grateful for. I know that I'm more sensitive than most to cooler temperatures, so while most people would probably have been fine, I appreciated being able to make the room fit my preferences on my own. There is a large array of movies that you can borrow to watch, most of which are older and asking classic lines which is nice to take a step back and enjoy. There were also cookies and tea available through the evening. I've seen other reviews and noted myself that some bathroom areas can be quite small. However, I saw that as a result of converting Victorian spaces into modern lodging areas. Areas were simply smaller in that era than we're used to now and keeping the integrity of the space has the natural result of cozier accommodations. I personally didn't mind any of it, but I can see how others might. The bed was comfortable, but be aware that this is a typical Kansas town that was built around a railroad station. So trains still run through there very frequently and at all hours of the night. If that will disturb your sleep, plan accordingly. I honestly don't think you can stay anywhere near the museum without that aspect. Breakfast the next morning started with a yogurt, fruit, and granola parfait. Adrian makes the granola herself on site. The entree for that morning was French toast with a fruit reduction and bacon. It was very nice. Overall, it was a very nice stay in a historic home with prices very comparable to any local hotel.

If you know me you know I'm a sucker for a small town museum, and the Dickinson County Heritage…read moreCenter does not disappoint. We came here because of the vintage carousel that they still operate, and ended up exploring the whole building and outside structures which really made it worth the small entrance fee to see. Let's start with the main building. When you walk in, it's an old small town museum, and it feels like it. I do think this place could benefit from some TLC in terms of updating it and breathing in some new life, but I will also say from working in the museum industry, that funding can be hard, and I felt like they did a really great job of keeping it running, clean, and accessible with what I can imagine are some limited resources. Once you pay, you can meander through the galleries which cover the history of Dickinson County, and feature some really interesting artifacts. Our favorite part of the main exhibits was the section on the introduction of the telephone and how it evolved over the years. For our four year old this was especially cool because they have some switch boards that are interactive, and you can even place a call to another phone in the museum. For a kid that has never seen a rotary phone before it was pretty magical, and honestly even for us adults who remember those days, it was cool to see how it worked and we spent a good amount of time in that area. Once you've had your fill of the inside museum you can venture outdoors and experience the old school carousel, and some historical buildings. The carousel was really cool. First of all it's the oldest known carousel to still be operational in existence. I mean, this may be a fact hard to track down and verify, but that's pretty impressive. Being built in 1901, it's crazy to be able to ride something so old and get a full experience that someone else would have had over 100 years ago. The old buildings were also pretty neat to explore and we enjoyed walking around and seeing what each one had to offer. Overall, this is a pretty cool stop for anyone who enjoys history.

The pulled chicken was flavorless. The pulled pork and brisket were a little better but equally unremarkable, and we were offered no bbq sauce, which would have helped the taste. And the baked beans tasted like they came from a can. I don't eat coleslaw but my husband was unimpressed. The corn bread tasted more like cake, which is probably good because they served bread pudding, which I don't care for. As for the ride... it was ok... but all they did was take us through farm fields to Enterprise, which had little to offer. Most rides like this would at least offer some tourist information on the area over an intercom but we got none of that. The trip was overpriced and unremarkable. I would not recommend it.

Anyway, check in was easy and the staff was friendly. I had no issues during my stay. I will say that I had a room next to the main drag and college kids like loud cars. So that was annoying at night when I was trying to sleep. My only real complaint is going to sound dumb and probably TMI, however I'm going to mention it. Their toilet paper sucks! It's the cheapest thinnest available. You would think with the price of the room that they would try to save money elsewhere. But they didn't. lol. Ok. I'm done with my rant. Anyway, other than the toilet paper my stay was great. The room was clean comfy. The HVAC worked great. The TV options were lacking. I couldn't get the football game so I ended up watching my phone. I was too lazy to walk a block or so to the bars to find the game. I wanted to lay in bed and watch the game. All in all, I will definitely try to stay here again if I'm in town again. The location sold me on this place. Oh, you have to pay to park which stinks. I'm from a small town and not used to that. Maybe it's a normal thing and I'm just not used to it. But I figured I would mention it.

The parking lot entrance for larger cars can be a problem, it is a very tight squeeze into and out of the lot Not sure who designed that but getting in and out of the lot is a mission haha They needed to build the entrance much more wider, can see cars have a hard time coming in and out there's scrape marks on the poles and sides, might need to address that for the future just saying
