I took the piece to Chuck to see if he could repair it, or build a new one. My harness is hand made and custom, made by the Amish. It really is a work of art. After inspecting the part, he said he could fix it. Even though I was essentially walk-in traffic, Chuck took the time, and fixed the part on the spot. While he was working, I was admiring the other leather items he had in his small shop. He is a true craftsman. Some of the items are unbelievable and must be seen and touched to appreciate it. Even though Chuck has a small shop, he maintains commercial grade equipment. Not many small single owner businesses will do that. He's not running a Singer sewing machine. It's a huge, German made behemoth that certainly looks intimidating. The repair was completed perfectly. The joint is certainly stronger than the rest of the leather part. One thing is certain. Before I left I told the sales person that people like old Lance just need to not be in public & that person also agreed with me, but told me Lances schedule so I could avoid him if I ever came back. And for the first time, it actually fit the way it should. Since then, I've gone back for five custom suits, multiple shirts, and my favorite, an overcoat (which I'd avoided for years because of off-the-rack fit issues). The suit he made for me is very comfortable and continues to get better as the canvas takes the shape of my body. I keep looking for areas to make micro improvements for my next project with him. But to be honest, the fit is so good I'm not sure there's much to change other than experimenting with other styles, like a double breasted. I plan on commissioning something from him every year as long as I stay in Washington. The super tight, short jacket with the bum exposed, with skinny lapels was trending for a while on off the rack clothing. Even some made to measure places make suits like this.
