The 5 STAR rating is specifically for 1 employee - Cathy (wax lady). She was here for a few months but has since moved to Distinctive Manner Hair Studio off of York and N Ave 64. I've followed Cathy for a few years now and when she moved to Lovely Nails I was shocked. The place is so dirty and unsanitary. I would NEVER get a mani or pedi here! Everyone in HLP that I know avoids that location bc of it's reputation of it being dirty and outdated. Ms. Mary (the owner) is not very nice. Parking sucks and the credit card reader was always broken. For everyone's safety, please choose any other nail shop on Fig or risk getting an infection. read more

I was able to walk right in with a friend for gel manicures. One of the women was very nice but the others were not friendly. It was extremely dirty and I watched some appalling things happen cleanliness-wise. For example, I watched the woman who did my initial nail grooming take the nail tools she used on me and rinse them for about 1 second in the bathroom sink and then toss them in a "clean tools" container. While she was still working on my nails she picked up the towel that had all of my skin and nail particles on it, walked outside and shook it out against the inside of the public trashcan, wall back in and place it under another customer's feet who then got a pedicure. I had gel nail polish on when I came in and her removal technique involved using the cuticle trimmer to pull up the edge and then peel the gel polish off, leaving my nails thin and damaged. Would never go again- do not recommend. I considered leaving after I saw some of these things but it was uncomfortable and my friend was across the room getting nails done, too. read more

There's a nail salon in South Pasadena, which is a few miles from Lovely Nails. I recently paid close to $70 for a simple mani/pedi. Sure, it had a massage chair with foot spa, but Lovely Nails does the same job for $15. When the lady told me $15, I thought she was giving me a quote just for a manicure. I was surprised to find out that it was for both manicure and pedicure. The difference a zip code makes... This is a small and humble place in Highland Park south of York. Parking is on the street. Meter will give you 15 minutes for 25 cents. read more

Dirty, FILTHY, not worth it! I was so disappointed that I did something I had never done before, I left in the middle of my pedicure!! The guy attending me was nice and I definitely paid him five dollars for some of the nail filing he did. Looking around, I just could not bring myself to sit there and let him use other tools that would include cutting cuticles, etc. The chairs were torn (though comfortable), The towels used for me were dirty and stained, and the tools questionable. As I sat there looking around in discomfort, I started reading through the Yelp reviews, and that was the last straw. I just thanked him for his work and said that I had to leave. It was a little embarrassing, but I'd rather be embarrassed then get some sort of fungus or infection. If they don't even replace the towels, I can't expect them to care about their tools. I wish I had read reviews before going here just because they were available. Don't fall for the $12 pedicure. You will be offended by how dirty his place is it's not worth it. Walked in today for a quick pedicure when the shop down the street was closed for a wedding. I was seated and was seen relatively quickly, they had me choose my color and my technician got to work. She was gentle but thorough, got my nails trimmed and my feet smooth. Color was done quickly and efficiently. Minus one star for kind of difficult parking, no way to add tip to card (my bad, I forgot my cash!) and a $1 charge for card. They were super nice though and it's a great looking paint job, I'll be coming back with tip money next time! read more

Ok place for a quick manicure/pedicure for $20 bucks. I went in on a Friday night and was taken right in. The girl did a great job, was not rushed and took about an hour and half. It was very relaxing. The place is old and not well kept. There are massage chairs but they don't work and they don't use the bowls in the chair but instead put removable plastic bowls to drain in the toilet. There are not very many colors to choose from. Me and my family where loyal clients of Mary(owner) since 2009 (7 years) after an incident where she was extremely rude screaming at my mother for trying to buy a nail polish offered by her wholesales person. Her prices are cheap but BEWARE of the dangers of this establishment. The tools that are used from one person to another are not properly cleaned all they do is rinse them under water. The nail files and that pumice bar has everyone else's dry skin. When removing Ingrown's it's improbably done lifting and breaking and bruising your nails. We no longer go here after learning of all their bad practices. If you're looking for a toe fungus or infection this is your place !!! read more

I appreciate this place because their work is neat and you will very likely not have polish on your skin or cuticles when you leave. I've been coming on and off for the last three years. I used to live down the road but now I'll stop in if I'm on this side of town. I am leaving a poor review now because I will not be coming back anymore. I called for a 630pm appointment same day and Mary told me it was fine. At 6, I called to say traffic was bad and asked if close to 7 was okay. She said no problem. I arrive at 6:40p to a closed shop!! If she didn't want to wait she could have said so. I wasted an evening stressing to make it to their shop before a dinner. read more

I will not do my nails anywhere else. I've been coming here since I was about 13 years old. Mary does a fantastic job. Its not the most glamorous place to grt your nails done but this little hole in the wall is a gem. You'll def get your money's worth coming here. Highly recommend their acrylics. No way. Don't do it. $15 for a pedi//mani is tempting, but you get what you pay for. I walked in wanting to like this place and trying to get a mani and pedi. I left regretting it I didn't even let them do my manicure. I think the previous yelpers were being too kind. This place is very dirty. I don't think it's seen a mop in a while. I think they don't wash their towels from one customer to the next. The table had nail trimming from the previous customer. I would rather pay a couple of dollars more and not risk my health or put myself through the stress. The older lady cut me with the electric filer ( the tool that they use for filing down nails for acrylics). She also cut my toe nail too much and I was bleeding when I got home. I wanted to like this place, but I am sorry. I would recommend Mademoiselle Nails in Eagle Rock. I am hoping I don't get an infection. I can't believe they gave a license to this person. read more

I've been coming here for years. Like 10 years. Mary is by far the best to do your acrylics. Trust, they will be beautiful. She charges $15 for them or $17 for white tip. Gel is $15 and for that Tammy is the best. Mani/pedi $15. Yea the place is old and not hip but their work is great. Weekends is super busy, call for an appt and show up on time! I had previously left a high rating for this nail salon because of one good manicurist. But after returning 2 more times, I cannot see how this place is still open... There are two Linda's here. A young one and an older one. The young one is fantastic. But the last 2 times she wasn't there and I had to go to the other Linda. That was horrible. The first time I went for a fill. She put crazy glue caked on the tops and under sides if my nails which left it all over my fingers. It took 5 days to get it all off... She also did not file the sides flat so they were lifting up, getting snagged on everything, getting caught in my hair when I showered and even chipping...on the first day!!! I had gone during a break and when I was done working they were closed. I couldn't get back for days, and by that time I had figured it was too late to say anything. But the second time was the worst... I went in to get my nails taken off because they were just too bad to save. Again the Linda I wanted was not there and they sent me to the other Linda...I was apprehensive so I told the owner of my experience from the last time. She was completely unsympathetic and said she does good work. Since again I was on a break and in a hurry, I had no choice but to let the "Other" Linda remove my acrylics... It was sooooooo painful... She kept filing in the same spots until I had to keep pulling my hand away from the pain. I left in tears. That night, I could not sleep from my sore fingers... Probably close to 70 percent of the acrylic was still on my nails, but that was not as bad as the fact that on 4 different nails she had filed my real nail down so much that she went straight through to the skin. Not at the tip, but in the middle between the tip and cuticle... I was in so much pain so I called and told the owner again...she told me it was normal and again the the "Other" Linda does good work. I had heard from others that the older Linda was not good and everyone who told me that said they, too complained about her. Other manicurists that work here had also told me that she is awful... So my 1 star review is not just for Older Linda, but for this establishment for receiving complaints about this woman from every customer, yet continue to employ and defend her. By allowing her to continue to do inexcusable, disastrous and painful work on unsuspecting patrons, they are more to blame than Linda herself. It is irresponsible and dangerous for Lovely Nails to continue turning a blind eye to the fact that this particular employee is hurting people...and their business. read more

I'm been coming here for about 6 months and I love it. The mani and pedi is $15 dollars and the opi nail polish is free. Mary is the main owner and she charges $10 for gel which is extremely cheap. The place is a little bit small and they don't have a lot of workers but they take care of you and take their time. Friday and Saturday is crayzy and I would suggest an appointment, they open at 8am. During the week the wait is short to nothing. They don't charge for ingrown toe nails like other places . Mary's English is a little bit bad and she can sometimes forget things because she's so busy but other then that she's very good at what she does and the prices are extremely reasonable. Getting a gel pedi right now as I type this and I sat in the water for 2 HOURS. This place is seriously dirty. I felt uncomfortable using their bathroom and that's where they wash the tools. The sterilizer is covered in dust. I never saw them use it once. I was with 3 people all getting the same thing but the owner took someone who came in later than us first. I told the owner how I felt. She yelled at me. 2 HOURS in the water so I left. No nails for me. My friend chose to not get a mani after all because it was taking so long. It should not take one tech 2 Hours to do a mani pedi and a pedi. Not cool. There is only one worker here besides her. I think that is poor service and won't be returning. I came because I dislike the charging practices that Colorful employs next door but the yelpers are doing everyone a disservice by not mentioning how filthy this place is. Ai is a sweetheart and she always takes her time to deliver the best fill money can buy! I never have to wait no more than 10 to 15 minutes to be seen, but it's mostly a 5 minute wait. The only reason I tried this place is that it had decent reviews here on Yelp for acrylics. I don't really like writing bad reviews at all, but the decent ones are what conned me into going. I made an apnt with Mary (as recommended on here) for a full set. I was willing to overlook how grim, dirty, and grimy it was as it was so cheap, and because my go-to nail guy for the past year and half down the street at Helen's happily admitted to voting for Trump as he didn't want a woman president. The pedicure wasn't bad, and the acrylics weren't either, but one nail came off 4 days later. I went for a fill (again with Mary via appointment) the next week as its only $10, which the shape was very rushed and polish edge didn't look as good as the week before, but only $15 with tip I kept telling myself! 3 days later the new nail and 3 more nails fell off, (of the full set that was less than 2 weeks old). I made an appointment to fix them, but when I got there a group of women were inside waiting which was more than the 2-person staff could handle, and Mary first pretended that she didn't recognize me, and hadn't made an appointment with me the day before, and when I reminded that I actually HAD spoken with HER, she just said "sorry too busy" and ignored me. Walking to the nail salon a block away, I easily popped off the rest of the nails, so inferior products in addition to inferior customer service and inferior cleanliness.
