Any of the reviewers which indicate that her shop is "overpriced" clearly do not understand curated vintage. Her price points are incredibly fair and affordable. Here, you won't those run-of-the-mill styles posing as originals, no Old Navy or last season's H&M. This is a true vintage shop, thus reflecting the prices accordingly. While some is admittedly more than I'd like to pay, I do always have the option of a local thrift store if cheaper prices is really what I am after in my shopping experience. I expected more... The styles are very cute from bags, sunglasses,belts, clothing, shoes and jewelry. I am an XS or size 0, not that much selection in that size range. Dresses are mostly in the size 8-12. I was also quite surprised by the price points. - Belts in the mid $30's - Dresses mostly from $50's and up - Tops and skirts high $30's and up I didn't even bother asking how much the shoes or bags are.. I expected to come out of the store with shopping bags full of stuff but I couldn't get myself to spend $55 on a dress that I really liked. Okay so its one of a kind, but its not even my size. I got a great pin here. Farm animals, stacked on each other! Nothing says fashion like chicken and cows. The stuff itself wasn't exactly to my taste, very retro. They did have some beautiful bags and shoes, in good quality. Otherwise it was a bit more expensive than I would have expected. They don't sell clothing for dudes here anymore, but this place is my go to shop for vintage dresses for my various hip lady friends (read: my mother). The store's major strength is it offers variety without being overwhelming. Its also not prohibitively expensive. This place has some cute stuff, I'll admit, but its really expensive when the salvation army is nearby and huge. if youre gonna hit this place up there is a sale rack outside where everything is approx. $20. those are good deals. inside its got east village prices but its in astoria. its just too pricey for some things you can get at a real thrift store. There are some things that are really quality and beautiful vintage finds that would be worth $90 though, so i guess its hit and miss. i do like where this place is located, on a quieter back street, it makes for a more relaxing shopping experience. Today I finally got to stop in to LoveDay and boy did it make my day. It was raining cats and dogs but it had been on my personal bucket list and my Yelp bookmarked list for far too long so I had to go! As I walked in I felt like a kid in a candy shop. I placed my drenched umbrella down. My eyes widened at the different colors and styles of clothing, the wall of funky and trendy jewelry, and the classic but fun ladies shoes dancing in a circle in the middle of the store. This is going to be a treat. I had been shopping with the intent of getting a dress for my fiancé's birthday this week. I draped a few items across my arms and headed for the dressing room. This dress. Fit. Like a. Glove. Ok yes, I'm a slim chick in my mid 20's but I can't rock just any dress on the rack. Awkward body? Little belly? Not curvy enough? I don't know but this little black dress with scrunched material did something for me. The owner (who i didn't know was the owner at the time) was fantastic to "shop with" and gave great advice. I felt like I was in there with a gal pal. I picked up this studded neck line necklace and I was instant glam. It felt good! I purchased my items with a huge grin and also got a little peplum pinstriped tube top that I can't wait to wear during my next summer day event. Thank you LoveDay. Wow. Why is this place only four stars?? What makes this place absolutely five stars for me is that the owner/buyer actually has impeccable taste which makes this particular vintage store stand out up and above the rest in New York. And in my hood? I couldn't have lucked out anymore. The only criticism I have is that it's too bloody dangerous to walk past this place if you have no money. It's addictive, beautiful, stylish and the music in the store is fun. Really - it's a whole experience. AND it's not prohibitive price-wise, I feel guilty (almost). Everything that I've bought from here has been complimented and picked out as being "special" and "amazing." I will admit, basically every outfit I wear has at least one Loveday 31 item. This place is flipping fantastic. I'm writing this review coming off of a total shopping high at Loveday 31. I bought a beautiful Marc Jacobs dress in mint condition for a reasonable $60 - what's not to love? Ok, more about the store and overall experience... Loveday is situated on 31st avenue, across from the bustling Bareburger and Brick Cafe. It's a teeny tiny boutique that specializes in vintage clothing and accessories. The owner is smart, as she always has a rack outside with items under $20, which draws you in, and subsequently draws you into the store. I tend to stop in on the weekends to browse when I'm running errands, or on my way back from brunch. Though there are quite a few things that aren't my taste (I don't like polyester or sequins that much), there are tons of great pieces to be found if you don't mind digging. Compared to vintage boutiques in the city, everything is a bargin here. There are amazing designer accessories (shoes and handbags) from Gucci, Christian Dior, and tons of other swanky names. I agree with the reviews about how the prices are rather steep for what they offer. So, this store totally doesn't carry my style of clothing. They are the boho/hipster/80s look type of store. I found one or two item maybe that I was like gosh* so nice but I knew. KNEW. I could find a similar item brand new at Bloomingdales and coupon the shit out of it for a similar price. Otherwise some of the clothing do have obvious signs of wear. Sizes are generally medium/size 6. Jewelry selection is quite unique. But some items like a simple fashion ring... I rather pay $5 at forever 21. Okay, so I'm saying here I rather shop at major retailers and look like everyone else thus defeating the point of this vintage shop. I ended up getting both my maid of honor dress and rehearsal dinner dress for my sister's wedding here, and got a million compliments about how unique, but still stylish and trendy, these pieces were. That is a good description of all the stuff in this darling little store, which you the feeling has all been very carefully selected with a judicious and fashionable eye. I wear a size 2 and I'd say most things were around size 6-8, but I still found plenty of things to try on during my two visits. One of the dresses I bought had a strange piece of draping on it I wasn't thrilled with, but the owner of the store gave me a discount AND recommended a tailor for me. I took her recommendation and they did a fabulous job! The other thing I have to mention is that I would happily own all the jewelry in this store. It reminds me of sitting with my Nana and going through her jewelry armoire with her and finding all these fabulous, crazy pieces she had collected as a young woman. It's like a treasure trove of originals in this little shop. When I thrift shop at places like the Salvation Army I usually end up throwing the stuff I got back in bags to donate again a few months later. A whole SECTION for SEQUINS?! I was in love before I made it to the jewelry collection. The shopkeeper overheard my friend I talking about teaching, and we had a great conversation with her about education, and kids, and the like. She was so friendly and not at all pushy about shopping in the store. She even left us alone in the store for a few minutes while she checked the outside rack. Prices were reasonable. Lots of designer items, also at reasonable prices. The real scores are in the jewelry collection. Vintage items that are still on trend, and pieces that scream one of a kind. We are HUGE fans of Loveday 31! For one, the owner is really welcoming and has a talented eye with fantastic style. For another, we've purchased some fashionable winners throughout the years - a black stretchy belt with an antique gold snake that loops into a chic notch for closure (get compliments on it all the time!), a mod 60's long-sleeved black sweater mini-dress reminiscent of Coco Channel and a Moroccan off-the-shoulder red satin dress that's attention-seeking (even from straight men in a complimentary way, rather than lustful) to name a few. Plus, Loveday has a great selection of jewelry -- Jen absolutely adores her double-chained vintage locket with turquoise embellishments and Kristy makes sure her three-chained tiered gold necklace with a rotating amber stone makes it's rounds at least once a week. Hands down one of my favorite places to shop in NYC. I never leave empty handed - which would normally be problematic - but Loveday's prices won't leave your wallet feeling light. About $35 for a skirt, $50 or more for a dress - Loveday is affordable in comparison to most vintage haunts. I recently got a chic leather skirt for just $19 (!!!) during the store's winter sale. I was extremely disappointed by my experience here. First of all, it is hardly ever open and the store hours are not posted. Good luck trying to even get in! Secondly, it is extremely overpriced. While there are great finds, I've bought new clothes in retail stores for less money than some of the price tags here were offering. Most of it, not worth what it was being sold for. Who is going to pay $86 for a grandma dress?!?! Thirdly, I found the owner to be extremely obnoxious. While many of the reviews here state that she is very helpful, perhaps that is the way she treats customers she deems "worthy" of shopping in her store. I went in with 2 bags of old clothes that I would have, happily, donated to her, had she even bothered to acknowledge my walking into the store. Instead, she sat up at the register, speaking with another customer, LOUDLY talking about the designers she knows in the garment district. While I assume this was her way of letting me know she doesn't take donations, the more approriate approach would have been to acknowledge me and explain her policy rather than acting like a complete snob. Did I miss the fact that this is a thrift store? Don't most thrift stores accept donations? I don't feel that I was wrong for walking in with that assumption! Further, I know designers as well, some of my clothes might have fit in her selection. Sorry, for a hipster chick running a small business, you'd think she'd want repeat customers. Instead, not only will she not be getting my donated clothes, she will also never be getting any of my business. read more

I generally HATE vintage stores. They always seem to be not only pretentious but full of ugly overpriced clothes. But Loveday has got it down to a science. Tons of great dresses- as if the owner had gone to a hundred thrift stores and found the best of the best in each store to put in stock. I found tons of cute dresses at WAY reasonable prices. The kind of finds that would cost $100+ in Manhattan or Williamsburg. And amazingly many of them fit! I'm not a small girl by any stretch of the imagination- Let's just say that Apple Bottom Jeans have got nothing on this derriere... Anyway I'm in love. Very cute selection of clothing. When I went there last, one side was 60s mod and the other was 80s flash. I personally have a penchant for the shift dress, so it was fun for window shopping. I have been following Loveday 31's facebook page and was intrigued to go with all the adorable outfits the owner posts! It's a small store but I find the selection impeccable and super adorable. I've been here twice now and each time I've found at least two things I want to take home and wear right away. There's a sale rack outside with tons of cute things. In fact, the items I've taken home came from the sale rack. I also love that she put a bench outside her store. The prices range from high 30s to 50s for pieces but they are worth the price with the quality in cloth and the style. The owner is super nice! The best place ever, really. Loveday is one of the best spots in New York City. In here you will find an amazing curation of beautiful clothes that just flow together seamlessly. It's a very rare gem. Another gem is the owner, Ivona. Ivona is a prime example of an independent owner. She is hardworking, honest, and a serious joy to be around. I remember once I was about to make a rush purchase on a green patent bag and Ivona told me to step away and think about it. She knew me better than I knew myself! I've been a customer for 2 years and will carry on the tradition for as long as she'll have me. Seriously, so glad she opened up shop and set an example for great vintage taste and overall badassery. The prices are pretty reasonable especially in comparison to high end vintage boutiques in Manhattan or Brooklyn. Prices are reasonable, which is hard to find in vintage stores around the city. As far as sizes go, it's vintage clothing, so be prepared for things to fit very unexpectedly.
