I have been going here for so long I can't even remember when I started. But I believe it's been 12 or 13 years. My whole family goes here and I've also referred friends. The front desk staff is friendly and accommodating. They make you feel welcome from your first step in the door. The Hygienists and Assistants are helpful and wonderful as well Dr. Freeman and Dr. Fox are caring, down to earth and professional. Dr. Freeman helped me with my TMJ tooth pain which is what first bought me to the office all those years ago. Both of them deal with TMJ issues as well as anything else that may be causing you issues. They do everything here and they will definitely make you feel comfortable and at ease. Sadly I've never taken any pictures of the office so I might have to update this soon. If you are looking for a reliable, reputable and caring dental office this is your place!

But please be notified that my original complaint is towards your billing department work. When you keep mentioning $14 in your reply, I know you are still confused about why I gave a one-star review.There are few things I want to clarify here: 1. There's no copay for preventive dental service with my insurance. Please refer to my dental insurance benefit page I uploaded in my review. The reason why I got an unpaid balance is because your office charges exceed the reasonable and customary amount not because I have a copay. Also, I had one implant incorrectly installed in Ohio which failed, leaving me in significant pain, and Dr. Ruskin was able to get me in immediately to remove the failed implant. He later replaced the failed implant and I have had no problems the replacement. As for the staff, yes I have experienced some abruptness from certain staff members but I'd stop short of calling it rude (more like mildly unpleasant). Also, this was more of a problem 3-4 years ago at the Brighton office and I never experienced it at the Farmington Hills office except when some calls were automatically redirected to Brighton from Farmington Hills. Finally, yes they do not like to dig into your insurance details if they are not a participating provider, as it was for me in past years. However, in cases where my implants were not covered by insurance, they participate in something called DentaMax which gives a discount on the uncovered procedures (about 25%-30% for me) (but you still have to pay). I personally overlook the administrative issues in favor of the excellent quality of care and see Dr Ruskin exclusively for my extractions and implants. Dr. William Ruskin has always listened to me as a patient and is a great doctor.

The long and short of it is: they are unethical and will tell you that you need work done when you don't. I am posting this just two days after seeing a different dentist: I wanted to post this last year after my appointment at Select Dental, but I believe in getting all my facts straight. So, let's get into this long tale. My husband found Select Dental online and saw generally favorable reviews. It was also very close to where we lived, so he thought it would be great to have a dentist so close; we had just moved and needed a new dentist. He scheduled appointments for both of us at the same time (this is important). We arrive at the office about 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork. The first issue we run into is the hygienist is running really late, so our appointments have been delayed by about 45 minutes. Okay, life happens, fine. But then we slowly realize that no other hygienist has come to get one of us: we were scheduled for concurrent appointments. Turns out, they scheduled us with ONE hygienist, back to back. At any other dental practice, they either schedule hygienists for both of us OR tell us the appointments will be back to back. We were never informed of this until we were already at the office. Alright, fine, that sucks but we're already here and most appointments don't take that long. *sigh* I should not have been so optimistic. After my husband goes in for his appointment, I am left waiting for nearly two hours before it's my turn. Two hours is very long for a dental appointment, doubly so when I still haven't been seen. Husband finally comes out and says he has 7 cavities. That seemed...excessive, but I had been waiting so long I didn't think much of it. My appointment takes less time, or at least it feels shorter because I'm not just sitting around, and the hygienist is very nice. The dentist was also nice, but when she began to examine me she just starts calling off teeth rapid-fire. No explanation as to what this is, other than "cavities", since their machine happens to be down and they can't show me what they're seeing--could be true, could be bunk. Turns out, I also have 7 cavities. Okay, this should have been a giant red flag, but I'm not a dental expert and I'm the type of person who gets paranoid that if I miss any dental appointments I'll suddenly have cavities (we'd gone one year in between dental appointments at this point, neither of us had cavities at that last appointment). I was also tired of being there, so we scheduled our appointments to have our cavities filled. And I noticed something interesting on the bill: the total charges to the insurance magically ate up all our insurance coverage for the year. Within probably $100 of our yearly coverage. Now, this could be coincidental, but I have my doubts. So, we get home and over the next few days we are feeling very apprehensive about this whole thing. I do some googling and find that this is a very common tactic in less ethical dentistry practices: they will find even the tiniest thing and say it needs to be drilled and filled, when many other dentists recommend fluoride rinses to remineralize these areas because you can't go back once you drill. We cancel our appointments to have these "cavities" filled and start searching for a new dentist. Fast forward to this week, where we both had dental appointments with a dentist my husband had seen when he was younger (they were 30 minutes away, so they hadn't been our first choice). They scheduled us at the same time and *gasp* they have two hygienists for us. I have no cavities. In fact, I have great teeth. My husband has one cavity. We go from 14 cavities last year to 1 cavity this year. I am appalled by the practices of Select Dental Group and I hope anyone who reads this will find a more reputable dentist. I hate that they made me so paranoid about my dental health and broke my trust as a patient.

I had oral surgery as my tooth was extracted & the socket filled with cadaver bone to begin the seven month grafting period. There was also a suspicious lump on my tongue that was removed for biopsy. I noticed it a year ago & forgot about it. People, this Covid thing has us all going nuts, so take care of yourself. Especially now. Dr. Bonine has on average seven emergencies a day. So if they fit you in to take care of your emergency, relax & enjoy the beautiful building & landscaping. There is also a lovely outdoor area, if you prefer to wait outside. Sorry to be this wordy, but I wanted to make a special attempt to thank the doc and his staff for make what potentially could have been a horrible day into a very pleasant day. BTW - Fear of needles here, there was no pain. Beautiful office overlooking a lovely pond with tons of birds. Great music & especially great people. A few years ago, one of my rear molars cracked on a holiday weekend. When the tooth cracked, I called Grand River Dental and was able to see Dr. Rondeau that weekend. Needless to say, I did have to have a crown and unfortunately a root canal too. Dr. Rondeau took great care of me throughout this process. He called an oral surgeon colleague of his who got me in on an emergency basis for the root canal. Crowns and root canals are never a wonderful experience, but I felt I was given great dental care throughout. Since then, my entire family has switched their dental care to the people of Grand River Dental. I find the receptionists to be friendly and welcoming. And the hygienists are always friendly and try to make you as comfortable as possible during the cleaning process.

The hygienists, assistants, techs, etc are equally as great. I see Dr. Birchmeier and I think he is a great dentist. He has his quirky dentist jokes and asks questions when he has his hands in your mouth! He really cares about his patients and when you have work done other than cleaning, he makes sure it's done right and looks great. The patient area is open and bright. So if you hate the dentist, this set up will help out with the anxiety. It's not a white sterilized room with tools laying around. And they have TV's on the ceiling!
