I have lnown & used Lou for decades. He is highly skilled and knowledgable. He has never steerd me wrong. He has little patients for fools. He does not hesitste to let you know when your out of line. Guns are dangerous if not handled responsibly. Follow his guidance. Especially if he hurts your feelings. I give him a 5 star rating. read more

Despite the negative reviews, I gave Lou's Sporting Goods a chance when it came time to purchase a firearm. Due to his proximity to me, it was super convenient, and I always like to give small businesses an opportunity. If you're the type of person that needs a participation trophy or is easily offended by someone who is a little rough around the edges, you might not like Lou. From the three times I've met him he's been a nice guy, no BS, and very knowledgable. He had exactly what I wanted in stock, and if he didn't, he would have ordered it. The price he gave me was fair and I didn't leave feeling cheated in any way, and I'll more than likely return the next time I'm in the market for a gun. If you're looking for a place to go, not afraid of someone who is blunt in their knowledge, and want a fair deal, head over to Lou's Sporting Goods. (Hazeline Gun Shop in Laurel MD. Lou works their, don't be deceived). The worst customer service experience ever. You get the feeling that you are interrupting their day. Loud inappropriate political comments. Generally rude ame unwelcoming. I was insulted for asking a simple question. A very poor representation of the 2A community. Don't waste your time or money, you have done many better options. We went to United Gun Shop in Rockville and treated like a welcome quest. read more

This guy must have some soft of PTSD. I sold my gun and he would mail a check to me instead giving me a cash on the spot. But then the mail never came to me, while none of my mails have been lost ever. I called him and he told me to drive to pick up the check. And he charged me $30 to cancel the lost check. I asked him to split it half and half but then he screamed at me like a mad man. He bragged about his military times but I believe he's suffering from PTSD. Stay away from this guy. Very unreliable and crazy as well. read more

Do not come here. Stay away. It's a converted house store, and the guy is all over the place. I went in to pick up my firearm that I inherited and he couldn't find it for over 20 minutes, he claimed at first that he never received it. He is not up to date on Maryland State Police laws for regulations concerning firearms. After I finally picked up my firearm he calls my phone and leaves voicemails threatening to call ATF, FBI and Maryland State Police on me unless I give him my firearm back because he doesn't know whether or not he received proper paperwork from another FFL. Terrible customer experience, go to a real store. read more

Lou Klien is a very interesting person, but in a wrong profession. He is honest about a lot of things and usually gives a good advice on firearms. However, depending upon how is day is going, he will be greedy sometimes and will push unheard brands of firearms from Turkey, while bad mouthing Heckler & Koch and Glock, just because he does not carry them. I have bought few items from him and his prices were ok. However, if you buy it from some online dealer or seller, and get it transferred to Lou, you will be up for a surprise. This guy charges 10% of the cost of the firearm, if it costs more than $750. Then, he adds local tax and lock fee (for handgun). Last time when I did a transaction with him, I ended up paying $200 for a handgun transfer. I have known other FFLs since then, and they never charge MD state tax unless I am buying for them, but never for transfer. The collection at Lou's is minimum at best, he sometimes will treat you bad, and is not a pleasant old man. He treats everyone as noob in firearms, and I have talked to him about some firearms and his knowledge is at least 20 yrs behind. He may tell you about M1Grand, but that's about it. Try, but you will not buy anything. I know you won't. read more

Have been a customer of Lou for years and he's a good, honest guy. Sometimes you may catch him in a grouchy mood so I hear but I've not experienced it. The shop in part of his home in a residential area so if you don't know the address you will pass his house because there is no outside advertisement. He can get good quotes and checks availability of what you may want while you wait. The shop is cramped so more than the in the room is crowded. I think most of his customers are by word of mouth which is how I ran across him from a friend. Reasonable prices and specific hours so pay attention to the posted times and it may be best to call first or a day ahead before you drop in. read more

I dealt with him for an online purchase. He completely misrepresented the condition of the rifle. Claimed he's a master gunsmith but didn't see the large obvious buttstock repair after advertising it was in perfect condition. Shipped rifle to wrong address causing delays. Claimed it was 100% original parts but the clearly stamped rifle and bolt serial numbers don't match. He accepts no responsibility, just says I'm difficult. The only reason I won't return the rifle for a refund is because I don't trust him to return my money. I'm keeping the rifle as a way overpriced reminder to never deal with him again. read more

Is there a no star option? The previous review said you might catch him in a grouchy mood every once in a while. Well in my dealings with him which had been about 5 times, he has been a terrible business owner every time. I used him as an FFL and he was actually angry with me for not letting him find my gun so he could make even more money off me. As if I needed to be upcharged any more. That was the first time. The second time was with the same gun I paid him to put some fiber optic night sites on my M&P9. He did such a bad job I had to take it back where again he was mad at me for expecting the gun to be properly sighted. He had recently had knee surgery so he couldn't go upstairs but begrudgingly he had someone else go get the tool needed to adjust the sites and he attempted to fix it, angry with me the whole time. While we were waiting he proceeded to insult my friend telling him the work he had specially done on his gun was "crap" which was totally unnecessary. I looked at the gun and with my own eyes the sight was still off. There was no telling him that. I ended up having to pay a different gun smith to fix it properly, the gun was useless until I did. Still even with all this I told my father about him. He needed some repair work done to one of his rifles. Old Lou was rude as ever and my dad decided to take it elsewhere. The other two occasions where I had to deal with him were not regarding guns or gun smithing so I won't go into that except say that he cursed at me right in my face over and over again till he ran off. This guy is as unprofessional as it gets. Clearly his business is suffering because of it. Do yourself a favor and find someone else. Do some research and go elsewhere. There's an awesome gunsmith in Shadyside who really knows what he's doing. Look him up instead. read more

I needed night vision sights installed on my pistol and first contacted a gun store in district heights, where I was quoted $60 and told it would take a day or two to complete. On a whim, I called The Vault on MLK holiday, fully expecting delays -- instead, I was pleasantly surprised. Jack, the gunsmith, not only quoted me $25 (less than half the price), but had the work completed in about 25 minutes while I waited. That level of efficiency and professionalism is rare these days. After the install, I immediately took the pistol onto the range. Both the red dot and night sights were dead-on accurate out to 15 yards. No adjustments needed. That alone speaks volumes about the quality of Jack's workmanship. Bottom line: If you need any firearm work done, ask for Jack at The Vault. I thought he maybe scanned it twice by accident but he assured me that was the price. I don't know if he thought I wasn't familiar with that brand of ammo but I knew it was nothing special. I refused to pay that outrageous price, politely declined and left. I got in my car a googled the ammo and found 3 different websites with the same brand priced between $25.00 - $27.99. I understand plus tax and shipping it would have been more and he has to make a profit but daayyymmmn. I couldn't believe he would try to charge anyone damn near 3 times the price of a product. Maybe he takes advantage of people not knowing what things are and their value or he's cutthroat with the profit. Either way won't catch me back there. Mr. Earl definitely comes across as a pleasant man but with integrity in question I'll take my business elsewhere.

I looked around the area for Gun smiths to repair 2 of my rifles that were damaged in Hurricane Katrina. Despite them being neglected for 10 years after going through the storm, he repaired both and restored the finish with duracoat and they look great. These were my grand dad's guns and mean a lot to me, so I was afraid to give both of them at the same time to someone that I had no experience with, but I could tell he was a good guy who knew what he was doing, so I took a chance, and I am glad that I did, The guns look great and function like they should. Definitely A+ service! After he did such great work for me on those, I bought a Ruger 22/45 lite and had him do a trigger job and upgrade the internals, he even polished the feed ramp so good that it looks like a mirror!! The Trigger job is Amazing!!! He also repaired another gun that is very rare and impossible to find parts for. My wife also bought a H&K p30ls from him and is very happy with her gun. A trigger job might be in the future for her as well :-) He did offer a smith and wesson for a much cheaper price but we knew what we were buying when we were looking at H&K's so we expected it to cost more. And even tough he joked about it standing for Heckler and krotch lol, he did agree that they are good guns. I have been very happy with the service he has given, he stands by his work! I will always do business with him in the future. As to Jt D's review. sounds like there is more to the story with him, the other 2 occasions dealing with him not regarding guns or gunsmithing he was cussed at sounds to me like he is mad at him for something else and just leaving a bad review. I have never had lou do bad work, or get mad at me or seen him get mad at other customers for bringing their gun's back for adjustments on work that he did. He always tells you If there is any problems bring it back and he will take care of it, and he does! He has done it for me and I have seen him do it for other customers! Never had problems with him for transfer's, sometimes he does tell you he could have gotten it cheaper, which is fine, and good to know, I call him and ask before I buy at gun show's now. If he just had knee surgery in jt d's case cut him some slack of course he cant go up stairs to fix your gun. anyone that is reasonable would have just come back later after he had a chance to heal. I would take his review with a grain of salt, does not sound like the lou I have dealt with. read more

I am not originally from MD and prior to moving here I had purchased all my firearms from a close friend who was a dealer and gunsmith. With that being said I needed to find an honest gun dealer in the area who can also perform gunsmith services. A friend of mine mentioned Lou so I figured I'd give him a shot. The first time meeting Lou I sat down in the chair next to his desk and we talked about guns and hunting like I do with my friends back home. Lou is an old school veteran who is full of knowledge and you can ask questions on merchandise without fear of BS answers unlike other dealers and the clowns they have working for them. I have been there multiple times and have purchased cleaning supplies, ammo and a Ruger Mark IV which were all priced fair. I definitely recommend stopping by if you are looking for a straight shooter dealer with all around knowledge on firearms, accessories and upgrades. Many other stores in MD I have found to be overpriced, customers are obnoxious, and employees uneducated in the firearms industry. I have noticed Lou's other customers to be polite and patient while he is busy with other customers because they understand when he is finished with the other customer they will receive quality service. Need less to say I will return to Lou for future purchases and any work to be done on my firearms I can not do myself. read more

Being a Firearms Enthusiast, I was more than disappointed when my local Gun Shop went out of business. As I searched for another shop within a reasonable distance that I was comfortable visiting and had fair pricing I discovered Lou's Sporting Goods and decided to give Lou a call. I must say, within minutes I felt like I was talking to a friend I knew my whole life. Lou invited my wife and I out to his shop for an appointment at our convenience. He sat us down and gave us his undivided attention and had no problem giving us as much time as we needed to decide on a purchase while sharing his vast knowledge and guidance along the way. It was a very personal, one on one experience. Lou gave me a great price on my selection and when I came back to pick it up he again spent as much time as I needed going over the care and use of my new handgun along with suggestions on how to modify it to make it my own. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and my experience doing business with Lou. I plan on doing a lot more business there and would highly recommend anyone serious about purchasing a firearm or having one repaired or serviced to give Lou a call and make an appointment. read more

A craftsman: a gunsmith that knows the technical intricacies and the nuances of firearms. Old school pro who is a breath of fresh air from the commercial "salesmen" and others who claim to be masters of the trade but really aren't. Lou has 27 years of gunsmithing experience. He can work on the complex and the simple regardless of value (something many others won't do). Honest, plain-spoken, and direct. Fair with pricing. If you're the type that feels you're smarter than anyone else and not interested in learning --- or are thin-skinned --- find somebody else. I have purchased handguns, rifles and shotguns from Lou. I am extremely satisfied with the products, service and prices. He has special ordered items for me as well as sold me items in stock. Each time allowing me to make a decision with little or no pressure. He conducts his business within the law, so when I forget to bring a gun lock to transport the firearm, Lou has to provide me with one or come back with my own before he'll let me leave with it. Lou is a great guy. Honest and to the point, that I like. I took 2 rifles to him. An 8mm Mauser filled with cosmoline and a Enfield that needed a check over. Both were taken care of. The Mauser was clean and cosmoline free. Informed me of how to take care of a rifle that was shot using corrosive ammo, that's all they had back then. The Enfield was gone over and fixed. I've been to Lou's Sporting Goods about three times and I haven't had a bad experience yet. I also have some friends that purchased a glock from him. He's been a nice guy, though other people say he gets moody, but everyone has good days and bad days. He's given me good deals on his stuff and is very honest. He explained the needed repairs, Told me what i was doing right and wrong on my maintenance.
