I attended this school back in Fall of 2010 - Spring 2012 for my 7th and 8th grade years.
Let's start with all of the positives of this school:
1. It was close enough to walk home from school.
2. A small handful of teachers were actually really nice and cared about their students.
3. The janitorial staff were amazing people.
As for the negatives, I could go on and on. The administration and many teachers seemed to hate their jobs, and would take it out on the students. I once got detention because I was having trouble learning how to do a math problem. Then when I went into detention, I got detention again for not knowing what to do in detention. Asking teachers questions would be met with being told how I should have known this from reading the book chapters already. You were required to dress down for P.E. and leave your stuff in these small baskets with gaping wide holes in them. Because of this, it was very common to come back to the locker room, only to find stuff had been stolen, despite being locked. The school didn't care about it, and said we should have been more diligent at keeping our stuff safe, despite being required to put everything in these baskets. A vending machine ate my money, and the kitchen staff said they'd be reporting me to administration to be suspended for breaking their machine.
I could go on with hundreds of different stories of this place, but I won't. All of the many problems with staff there ended up leading to a fend for yourself mentality amongst all the students. Kids would constantly fight, steal, and threaten each other. It was a very hostile environment that I'm sure has left most of the student population with underlying trauma.
If you're looking into sending your kids to a middle school, pick something like Carnegie. My sisters went there because my parents didn't want them to have to go through what I went through. Carnegie was much better to them. read more
