Rude Rude Rude!! Most unprofessional dentist office I encountered. Avoid this place unless you wanted to be ignore and be charged for service without letting you know in advance. A month ago, I got a bill from Evan's dentist office. I called and talked to Kelly, a very rude lady / receptionist. I asked her why didn't I got informed I need to pay for the exam. She said it's my responsibility to call the insurance and find our what covered. Excuse me, I dont even know what service you guy charge, how do I ask my insurance in advance if it's covered or not. All medical facility (doctor office / dentist office / hospital) will let the patient know in advance what they charge and let patient decide agree or disagree the service. On top of that, the medical billing is in code. How do patient know what code they charge. It's always the office confirm with the insurance and let patient know how much the service is. Kelly, the receptionist, not only lazy, doesn't want to contact patient insurance but rude when asked her about billing. She's not only giving me attitude while on the phone but hung up on me. Moving forward, I went in the office today for cleaning since I already made appt three months ago. Went there 2 mins earlier than my appt, waited 12 mins and no one at the front. No greeting, nothing. Then saw a lady came out. I said "excuse me", continue got ignore. She went straight in to the other side where they keep all patients folder. I said "excuse me" again, finally she looked at me. I told her I have an appt. She then said my name and said she's going to call me. So they know I'm there but chose to ignore me. Worst customer service from a dentist office. They can save their attitude to people who likes rude people. I rather go somewhere with pleasant staffs. read more

Update on 5/31/2019: I just noticed that someone posted a very negative review on Dr. Evans Yelp page, and I just couldn't help but to jump in for their defense. This office really went out of their way to accommodate my needs, and I found the receptionist here to be extremely professional and caring. As a minority myself, I can tell you from my own experience that both Dr. Evans and the receptionist always treat me with the utmost respect. The other reviewer may not have gotten what he/she wanted, but I'm sure there is a good reason for that. But to accuse them of being racists for not getting his/her way is simply appalling to me. read more

I have went to Dr. Evans for 2 cleanings now, and I must say that I love love love his work. My sister suggested him b/c he was pretty good (and an American ...yay!) The first time I saw him, I complained that my wisdom teeth were bothering me, so he referred me to an Oral Surgeon (whom turned out to be a great one) and I got my wisdoms out. --Now let me back up, my dentist prior to him was horrific. Infact, I should find her on here and yelp her. She didn't clean my teeth properly and always rushed. Luckily, I have braces which encourages me to keep my teeth very clean so I did not end up with cavities messin with her. So it was nice to find him b/c I must say Dr, Evans gives a mean cleaning. He actually takes the time to scrape all the tartar off and check for cavities in every crevice. Every time I get my teeth clean, my teeth are noticeably whiter and ppl always seem to compliment. I highly recommend Dr. Evans if you a) are looking for a nice clean office b) are looking for an "American" doctor who speaks English fluently (no accents...p.s. no offense) and c) if you want a dentist who gives a meannn cleaning. read more

I loved dr. evans until i received a bill!!! He's a great DENTIST!!! A group of us were referred by one of our co-workers who had been going to him for over 10+ years. Everything was great until i was stuck with a $300+ bill. I was told by the receptionist that I was covered under my insurance. Come to find out I didnt have a PPO I had an HMO. This lady was telling people to come in. Charging for services that were never rendered and leaving you in the dust. She was fired just 2 weeks ago. So many people were screwed by her. If this happened to you call the office and let Dr. Evans know. He was unaware of her practices. Great Dentist but enter at your own risk!!! Go to Southland Mall theres a great dentist there. So far I've been having a good experience here. My cleanings are thorough and I like that they check up to see how you're doing after with your treatment plan. Sometimes I don't trust dentists in general but this staff feels like straight shooters to me. I give 4 stars bec I've been to (5 Star) dentists who have great ambiance, cool fish tanks, blankets, goggles to keep water out of your eyes, movies, vr glasses...stuff that makes you feel more at ease which is always nice when you're doing something like getting a filling or cleaning. But overall this office is worth trying out. read more

Dr. Evans is hands down one of the best dentists EVER!!! No seriously! His entire office, right from the receptionist to the nurses, to Dr. Evans -- all are really really awesome and truly care for their patients. The receptionist is exceptional, she goes above and beyond her duty to help you get appointments at the time you need it, helps you get appointments at other oral surgeons office, gives you great recommendations, sends the xrays ahead of time, helps with billing and insurance issues (in fact makes it a non-issue), and follows up with the patients just to ensure they are doing okay. Wow! You also soon find out, that they are not here to make a fast buck off the patients or the insurance company. My husband and I have now found our dentist for life! I am a chronic TMJ sufferer and Dr. Evans was extremely gentle, accommodative and patient with me. Now if only all Doctors office in the world are like this phenomenal team! Sorry, I sound like a fan girl, but I have been to many dentists over the years and have had nothing but bad experiences and its refreshing to see someone that truly care for their patients well being. I am far too familiar with going to the dentist thanks to a dentist who practiced unethical dentistry on me as a child. That being said, I have been to many different dentists over the past 10 years and not a single one has even come close to being Dr. Evans! My first visit with Dr. Evans was for a bit of an emergency. I explained to him my history (which is why my teeth are in the condition they are currently in) and Dr. Evans genuinely sympathized with me and made me feel like I was in a safe place with him as my dentist. While my childhood previous dentist had claimed I needed work that I didn't genuinely need, Dr. Evans have proven over and over again that he will practice conservatively and he is not going to recommend treatments or services that you do not need. Dr. Evans tends to see me on a more emergent basis (unfortunately), and has been dependable at getting me in to address teeth that need root canals. He has fixed errors that other dentists have made and I have always been pleased with the quality of his work, the caring demeanor of him and his staff as well as the price for his services. I find it incredible that not only do I find Dr Evans to be a better dentist than all of the others I have been to, his prices are up to 50% lower than what I've been charged elsewhere. TAKE HOME POINT: Dr. Evans provides high quality, professional, compassionate dental care at affordable prices! I reluctantly made a dentist appointment after refusing to go for over 2 years (and a bad, painful experience with another dentist). First, I was greeted on the phone by Lorraine with understanding and compassion because she knew I was very nervous. She gave me hints and tips to deal with my current situation even before my first appointment day! I went in for my cleaning and check up and explained that I had a very painful tooth and Dr. Evans and the hygienist both were extremely cautious with the area and made sure I felt NO PAIN. I made my follow up appointment to fix the problem and now Im completely pain free. Dr. Evans is very friendly and professional and right away he makes you feel comfortable. My husband has been a patient here for a couple years now and he cant say enough about Dr. Evans and his staff. Many years ago he was in a motorcycle wreck that crumbled a lot of his teeth. They had been pieced together in a way that didnt last and always caused him problems. Dr. Evans is the first dentist to take the time to fix every single tooth and make it last! I was a patient of Dr. Evans for a few years...maybe like 8 or so...after I turned 18 my pediatric dentist kicked me out and so I had to find an adult dentist. Dr. Evans is really good and caring. I ate a now-and-later and I guess I sheared my molar right off. I freaked out but Dr. Evans took care of it. I can't even tell which molar it was. He even called me a couple of days later to see if I was ok since it was a long procedure. He does cosmetic dentistry too. He's really good at that and of course general cleaning. The only reason why I don't go hear any more is because I moved to SF and work long hours. The only thing I might say is that my new dentist does include a couple of things that Dr. Evans didn't. she measures my gums with this tool. And she has digital cameras too show me certain things. I guess her practice is just a little newer. This doesn't take away from the fact that Dr. Evans is extremely knowledgeable and has the experience of an excellent dentist. He went to UC Berkeley AND UCSF which is an excellent program. So you're in great hands. read more

As I logged on to write this review I read some others and it's interesting that the other two negative reviews this office has received is due to issues with rudeness from the receptionist. My issue arises in the same manner but ended in a way that left my jaw dropped. I had an appointment scheduled for Friday May 4th. As I was on my way to the appointment I received a call from the receptionist (racist Lorraine) I believe is her name. She proceeded to tell me that my appointment will be moved and when would I like to change the date to, I asked her why and she stated that there is an issue with the suction machine. I then began to tell her that I rearranged my schedule and even had my mother take time off of work to watch my daughter but before I could finish she interrupted me and in a stern (but quiet) voice says "I'm not finished", which completely caught me off guard, she then continued to say "there is nothing I can do about it". I assumed she interrupted me because she was going to offer a solution when in fact she interrupted me just to shut me up as she was not willing to hear why this cancelation was an issue. This was very upsetting and I then in a stern voice stated can you call another appointment and see if they will move to later that afternoon because I had to move mountains to make it here and I'm literally 20 min away. She says "I'm not canceling an appointment for you", I responded but I'm asking you to make a call to see if someone else would be willing to move their time...before I could finish she stops me and says "fine we will just see you at your appointment". I hang up. When I get to my appointment the receptionist says "we need to have a talk", she then begins to reprimand me for hanging up and not responding to her when she said "fine we will just see you at your appointment". I stop her and remind her she is speaking to an adult and I won't allow her to tell me what I can and can't do. She then says "I think we could do a better job of communicating" I state that I completely agree and would like to just move on and find a solution, she then goes back and says "but you will not be seen by this office if you don't respect me"...at this moment I realize that I'm not getting anywhere with her. I ask to see Louis Evans (racist Louis) She says he is with a patient. This left me confused...I say I thought your machine was broken, she says "it is but this patient chose to do it without the suction and we have a work around. WHAT??? So now I am livid and ask her why I was not offered the same work around. She had no response, she gets up and goes to speak with racist Louis. She comes back and say he will be right out. I sit in the lobby and wait for 5 min. He comes out looks at me up and down, stands over me and says "we will not be seeing you anymore, racist Lorraine is the kindest person in the world and you were just soooo rude to her". I sit stone faced. He not once tried to hear my side of the story or even care, I stood up looked him in the eyes and said "I'm more than happy to leave but just some advice, it's always a good idea to get two sides of the story. I was in the midst of going back to my old dentist in Los Angeles anyways as they did some questionable billing recently but this just confirmed that I need to move on. Racist Louis and racist Lorraine...you both need a course in common courtesy and customer service, I strongly suggest a course in race relations while your there as I can feel the underlying racism in the way you conduct your business. I am so impressed with Dr. Evans! I went In as a new patient and he was so informative. He told me exactly what needs to be done and put me on a plan. I just got two fills and he was so gentle. I didn't feel anything, no pain. He didn't take a very long time. His staff is also very nice and sweet! I wish I had known about him earlier. I had to look for a new dentist because of an insurance change at my place of employment and I ended up making an appointment here for my routine 6 month cleaning/check up. Making the appointment was real smooth and the wait was not long. They did my x-rays and my cleaning. The x-ray part was good but the cleaning was VERY uncomfortable. They used the high pressure water to clean my teeth and I hate that. The sound it makes gives me a headache. They did not do any polishing or any other treatment that my old dentist did either. Just the high pressure cleaning then that was it, literally. When I got home I noticed that my gums were bleeding. The next two days my gums and jaw muscles were very sore. I, nor my children, will be going to this dentist (man I miss Dr. Murakami in Fremont). But for some reason my wife likes it. I guess she has tougher gums than I do, LOL. 2/14/2014: Just received a letter from this dentist stating "I apologize if the cleaning was overly sensitive with the ultrasonic scaler" and asking me to "consider removing the Yelp posting". I appreciate the apology but I will not take down my review from Yelp because that is what I feel this dental office deserved, based on MY experience. I do need to add that one of the ladies at the office was very rude over the phone. She called asking why I did not call to cancel my child's appointment. I apologized for not cancelling then she just gave me attitude over the phone with some line of questioning of why I am not going back. My gums were BLEEDING after a CLEANING, that should be reason enough! It seems like this dental office is really offended that I did not enjoy my visit and posted about it. I got a rude phone call and then a letter attempting to apologize and requesting me to remove my Yelp post. This just reinforces MY reason for only a 2 star rating. Dr. Evans only takes PPOs. Other than that, he is easily the best dentist I've ever had. Even if I move out of the area I'm going to go out of my way to stay under his care, even if I have to pay out of pocket. There is no fluff here. It is a normal dentist's office with normal rates, but the things you want done well like fillings, cleanings, and so on, are done well; he is really talented where it counts. There are no interns here and the lady at the front desk (Laureen) is more informed than many dentists I've bumped into over the years. She is really down to earth and helpful. I can call asking for advice and she will go out of her way to help me with anything I need. The entire team is skilled, forward, relaxed, and honest. For a "vanilla" dentist I'm incredibly lucky to have bumped into Dr. Evans. Back story: When I was 21 I got my wisdom teeth out and in the process he misaligned my jaw so badly it misaligned the top of my neck at C1/C2 which lead to severe chronic headaches leaving me bed ridden for years. I went from making over $100 an hour to not being able to maintain a job. The pain left me suicidal. When I moved to San Jose, I had severe anxiety regarding dentists. I went on Yelp and found Karen Ho in Campbell, given her ratings. Turns out she removes bad ratings, but isn't a horrible dentist. What I got was a sugar coated experience. She left me feeling comfortable under her care. Everything was tailored to put me at ease, but the actual dentistry where it counted was lacking. I had a cracked rear wisdom tooth I complained about for years every time I went in for a cleaning. She said she saw no problems. After complaining about this she offered to give me a filling, but the price quoted high for a single filling. (It has been a while. I could be remembering that incorrectly.) Also, the teeth cleaning there, while comfortable, didn't clean my teeth well in the end. I'd rather have an uncomfortable teeth cleaning experience that actually cleans my teeth than one that is superficial. When I moved out to Union City and came here Dr. Evans immediately noticed my cracked tooth and made a comment along the lines of, "Any first year dentist would notice this." The helper lady (sorry, I forget your name) gave me a proper tooth brush for my mouth guard which I could not find in stores. (Asking about these details from my previous dentist came up with a blank.) She also taught me how to properly floss my teeth and explained the different types of floss. No previous dentist taught me how to do this nor told me I should be flossing every day. And finally, I was referred to the UCSF TMJ clinic for my chronic headaches which I had been complaining about for years. Finally someone that is helping me with this issues! When I came in for the filling of my back molar he did an excellent job, easily the best filling I've ever received for multiple different reasons. Primarily what stood out was how he went out of his way to make sure my bite was ok. Due to the TMJ from the wisdom teeth surgery my bite is primarily on my right side. He couldn't get a bite where the filling is (back left molar) and was rather worried about this. He asked me to call him back the next day and verify that the filling is of the right height and went into detail about how important it is. Turns out his guess was spot on and I didn't need to come back in. All in all, Dr. Evans and crew is the best Dr. I've had the honor of being a patient of, out of the entire medical industry, not just dental. I can feel comfortable calling with any dental questions and getting a caring and honest response. imho a quick and free consultation over the phone should be the standard everywhere. It is sad this is the only place I've found that allows such a service without an appointment or hassle. It isn't a complaint, but the only down side I can see is that he isn't fluff. My cleaning and tooth filling was a bit harsher than I'm familiar with, but the end results speak for themselves. I'm not sure if it is required to be slightly harsher to get a good job done, but that might just be something that can't be avoided, especially with teeth cleaning. And finally, I brought my girlfriend in to get checked. She needs 10 fillings, half of them replacement fillings due to shitty previous dentistry, and her wisdom teeth out. Her previous dentist was the type that wouldn't help with preventative care and would wait until a root canal was needed. She too is glad to finally get decent care. i've never had good experiences at the dentist... even had the wrong tooth pulled once as a kid. i was so traumatized that i'd avoided going for way too long. Dr. Evans did such an amazing job! My teeth feel spectacular, and he's very patient and thorough, and answered all the questions I had. Happy to say I found a dentist I'll look forward to seeing in 6 months. I love that they embrace better teeth cleaning technology and i prefer the ultrasonic scaler they have to the old hand scaler. He didn't use any polish afterward, but my teeth are so clean i really don't think it would be necessary. Besides, the polish other dentists use tastes like sand. read more

My parents were patients of Dr. Evans, I am a patient of Dr. Evans, and now my grown children are patients of Dr. Evans. The first time I saw Dr. Evans, I was 15. Now I am 44. He truly is an amazing dentist. He pays attention to every detail. He always has the patients best interest in mind. He NEVER does unnecessary work and is completely honest. I was living out of the area and had to take my daughter to a different dentist. The dentist told us she had 6 cavities. I thought that was strange so I drove over 2 hours to bring her to Dr. Evans. Turned out she only had 2 cavities and Dr. Evans fixed them that day and we were on our way!! Dr. Evans has cleaned our teeth, fixed our cavities, performed root canals, tooth extractions (one of my daughters needed 7 teeth pulled before braces) and my other daughter fell and broke her front teeth when she was 8. Dr. Evans drove in to his office that night to look at her teeth and repaired them the very first thing the next morning. She is now a grown married woman and her teeth still look beautiful thanks to Dr. Evans. read more

Great service and pleasant visit every single time. He pays a great detail on patient's care. His fees have been reasonable and I've never had any impression that I was overcharged. I saw Dr. Evans after I purchased a PPO dental insurance through my college campus. I spent a lot of time researching different providers. Dr. Evans had great reviews and was recommended by a friend of mine. I saw Dr. Evans and he fixed me up. Prior to seeing Dr. Evans I had not seen a dentist for 6 years. So Dr. Evans had his work cut out for him. I used up my insurance and wasn't able to finish up a few cavities. A year and a half later, I was able to get dental insurance through work (HMO) and had to settle for a different dentist. BIG MISTAKE. The dental cleaning felt nothing like the one from Dr. Evans office. My teeth didn't feel any cleaner. I plan to change my dental coverage to a PPO as soon as I am allowed to just to return to Dr. Evan's office. read more

Dr. Evans is the best, most gentle dentist anywhere. He is so much better than the dentist I had before I lived in the Bay area, who looked like Robert Redford, but had bad breath. (That's all I remember about him). Dr. Evans takes the time to look for things another dentist wouldn't necessarily do - like a spot or something unusual under your tongue.
