We recently purchased a house that had ceiling stains from previous rain damage. The roof had been patched by the Seller, but we weren't satisfied with the quality of work, so we called Mackay Roofing. We called on a Monday and despite their busy schedule, they came to our home on Friday. Junior and his team identified the problem area, corrected the repair and provided additional roof coverage to ensure there will be no further damage for years to come. There was also a missing chimney cap, which they had custom made to keep the birds and other critters out. We were surprised to learn the cap was missing, because it was never disclosed by the Seller. Thank you Jr and Mr. Lou! They also sealed our exterior brick fascia from further weather corrosion. I learned from Lou that brick, similar to wooden decks, need to be cleaned, treated and sealed every couple of years; that is if you want to retain the beauty of natural bricks. Most importantly, they didn't try to price gouge us! Although we got three quotes, Mackay Roofing was by far the most reasonable and the best quality. They also provided us with recommendations to save money on roof repairs in the future. The Team was unobtrusive, they didn't get in the way. They didn't make a lot of noise and they cleaned up after themselves. They were patient and answered all of my questions. They were referred to us by a co-worker. I couldn't get them to stop raving about them! They did not exaggerate! Mackay Roofing far exceeded our expectations! I trust them to provide quality work at a reasonable price. Yes! We had our Capitol Hill roof replaced by MacKay roofing two years ago before a solar panel installation. The team took off the old roof, then removed the metal roofing below that and then they replaced some of the damaged wood below. Once that was done, they put on a new roof and fixed our gutters. We got the solar install on top of the new roof and everything worked out great. No leaks. Since then we have called them back to clean out our gutters and they came within 24 hours. Good work, very responsive and fairly priced. Will go back for them when we need to. read more

After a major windstorm we were left with about 4 missing shingles on our roof. The same day I tried to get ahead of the curve and called a few roofing companies that I'd found on here. We were only able to schedule estimates from 2 companies, the rest said they wouldn't even be able to get to us for several weeks. I called Mr. Mackay and reached his voicemail. He called me back the next day, which was a Saturday, and said he could come on Monday to provide a free estimate. He came and sent me the estimate via email. It wasn't an official invoice and contract like I was used to but it stated the service they would provide and the cost, very basic. We received another estimate that was slightly more and decided to go with Mackay's because he said if we were flexible he'd be able to make the repair within the week. Sure enough he called me on Thursday and was able to make the repair that same day. I appreciated the fast and friendly service. I met the elder Mackay after his son finished the job to make payment. He was incredibly friendly and made sure that I was satisfied with the work. Hopefully, our roof is good for a while but I would definitely use their services again. read more

We have had water issues through the roof and brick for a few years but had been patching things because of cost. Having bought a home recently, our home inspector told us that our new roof needed ventilation. I used the BBB and was referred to Mackay Roofing. I call yesterday asking for an estimate and they were very pleasant and asked if with my permission, they could visit my house today and do a visual inspection outside. They agreed to call after. They called and they were completely honest with us saying that we did indeed have ventilation and that that we did not need more as they were unnecessary. They could have easily oversold us and we would not have known better but they were honest. If I ever have a roofing need, I know who to call. read more

I was so surprised to see the positive reviews on Mackay roofing, so I thought I'd chime in with our experience. We had Louis out about 3 years ago to patch a spot in our roof where it was leaking. Louis does not do the work himself. Rather, his guys did it, so I'm not sure how much quality control there is. Anyway, that spot started leaking again about 1.5 years later, and we chose another company to come do the repair work. (Mackay's guarantee was only 1 year.) The other company (WGH) commented that the work was shoddily done and that several nails had been left up on the roof. read more

Lewis and his crew did a fabulous job from start to finish. I have had horrible experiences with contractors in the past, overcharging for terrible work and making the situation worse, but Lewis was honest and reliable. He responded quickly to my call even during the busy season. He gave me an honest and fair estimate, and then continued to answer tons of questions that I had over the following months while I was getting other quotes and trying to make a decision. Lewis was patient and responsive, and after many months I decided to take the plunge. Lewis did everything above-board, getting the permits and approval from the historic district. His crew worked diligently through snow and freezing temperatures to completely replace my leaking roof and did a superb job paying attention to every tiny detail. Lewis communicated with me daily about everything they were doing. I have never had a contractor be so accommodating and communicative. I was so impressed with his crew that I ended up adding on more extras to the job and had him repair and refinish a roof on a second property I own. My roof looks spectacular now - much better than the old slate I had to replace. It was a complicated job which involved the replacement of a lot of rotten wood, old insulation, mansard roof sides and a flat roof with multiple old skylights.
