I've been grabbing drinks here for just shy of a full year now. They have great custom cocktails to select from and they regularly change up their drink menu per the season. There's something for everyone. They have seating at booths or the bar and a great mix of music (fits in with the Bay View area). They also have a back patio with fire pits, kind of like a hidden gem! Last thing: I didn't pick up on it until it was pointed out to me, but they do a birthday celebration for every astrological sign! This place has one of the coolest vibes of any bar in MKE. The decor and comfy couches/chairs make it feel so cozy when you walk in. The drinks are so cute, but definitely on the sweeter side! Super super cute bar. Like it's amazing how cute this place is without being very tacky. The owners def spent time decorating and curating this space. It is a small bar but they do have a large patio space that has heaters and a back bar to serve more people. The bartender is very nice and they were attentive to my friend groups concerns. I came here for a friends birthday drink and it was fun and we had space still to allow other patrons to enjoy ourselves within our own space. The service is great although the staff does seem perpetually busy, but even with that they're incredibly nice. Had a NYE reservation in the VIP area and it was GREAT. We were warm despite the 20 some degree weather and had a private area so it felt very safe/responsible as well. When I first came to Lost Whale I was just starting to learn about the different types of cocktails, normally I would prefer wine bars. However, the experience and bar is truly an unique experience. Ah, I can't say enough about how cute this place is. Great cocktails with unique names and presentation, and the space is cozy, colorful, and comfortable. I love the decor and the specialty menus with illustrations and the story of the "lost whale" (so cute, I cannot). The bartender JC mentioned that he's the operations manager (I'm probably misremembering the title) and how the bar performed in the top ten at a cocktail competition in New Orleans recently. Amazing! Happy hour is fantastic-- half price cocktails and taps! I spent under $10 for two strong cocktails. Great Happy Hour! $5 cocktails from 4-6PM which you cannot beat. The menu has about 10 different cocktails full of all types of spirits. Local ingredients are used and recycled, such as coffee grounds from Colectivo (love that!) One cocktail was hot which was a unique drink with whipped cream and booze. Other cocktails were refreshing for a summer day. There is outdoor patio but I have unfortunately not been on it, however the pictures look great - there is even a fireplace. This is a small, intimate spot, so groups less than four people would be ideal. There is 2 hour parking by the bar and unlimited free parking after 6/7PM I believe. I'd only been to Boone and Crocket once so I didn't have much of a comparison to make when checking out Lost Whale. Lost Whale has a very different vibe from B & C and I liked it. It was kinda bright yet kinda dark, and the furniture had a bit of a retro vibe. I ordered a Harvey Wallbanger because I knew it was one of their premixed cocktails on tap. I liked it a lot. My only complaint is that staff and the menu didn't make it clear that they had the 4 special craft cocktails. I knew about it going in so I asked. I cannot rave enough about this spot. Visited for the first time back in January with some friends. We made reservations for the Pufferfish heated tent. Whatever we were expecting, the Pufferfish tent definitely delivered! We walked in and found ourselves in a little oasis, a nice refuge from the bitterly cold Wisconsin winter outside. Oh snap, this may become one of my new favorites! I have always loved this location back when it was Boone & Crocket. The back patio was always great then, and Lost Whale has kept up the tradition. The interior has a really cool vibe with neat decor, cozy seating, and trendy style - plus whiteboard tables you can scribble or doodle on! The back patio has tons of great seating for groups at fireside tables as well as some comfy outdoor sofas in the private deck area. The presentation and naming of the cocktails here is spectacular. Everything is amusing and gorgeous at the same time. I also love their storytelling, with their theme carrying through to the menus and the murals in the bathroom (at least the ladies room). They have some really great non-alcoholic options for the designated drivers or teetotalers in the group, too - I ordered a non-alcoholic offering called "If You Like Pina Coladas" that included lime, coconut, and a ceramic coconut cup with lots of beautiful garnish. This is where the old Boone and Crockett used to be. They did a really nice job redecorating it to rebrand it as lost whale. I especially like the menu which is actually a children's book which is really cool. They have some really interesting drink selections as well. We came here on a Sunday. It was nice because they had a great 1/2 off happy hour. There was one person working and a lot of people had come in because it was the day before Memorial Day. I think their drinks are great. However, we had bad service (my exact experience is below). Because there are several other options in this area with drinks that are just as good (i.e. any bayview cocktail bar, twisted path distillery), great happy hour specials (hotel madrid, boone, etc.) and have other cool things like live music or a great patio or great food (barnacle buds, boone & crockett), I won't go back here. The group I was with was out back, so I came in and originally ordered 3 drinks and a water. She made two and told me to come back later for the third. This was fine because I only had two hands to carry out the first two. When I came back to get the third, it was a long wait for the rest of the people to get their drinks. This was fine by me, as I understood it was busy. When I got the third drink and asked for the water, she let me know she was bothered by saying "yeah I guess." In that time another couple who had come to the bar just left because nothing was said to them (ex. "hey we've had a bit of an influx in the last couple minutes but i'll be with you after these two people." Instead she was talking to her friends - which I normally don't mind either but she was annoyed by the customers. By the time I had returned to the table out back it had been over a half hour since I had ordered the first drink so half the table went back to get a second round. Three went in at 5:53 to grab a second drink before happy hour was up. One person asked for a liquor switch in a drink (rail, not more expense), and she said it wouldn't be counted in the deal. Then, by the time she got to the third person it was 6:03pm. I think it's in good taste to just give the customer the happy hour deal given the context of them coming up to the bar enough in advance. And even not giving the deal is fine but again she said "yeah I'm definitely not giving you the happy hour deal" before he even said anything. read more

Lost Whale is my current favorite place in MKE for a craft cocktail. Named for an April Fools Day news article about whale sightings in Lake Michigan that has spawned a social media group, the Lost Whale has been a great addition to the Bayview bar scene. The atmosphere is relaxed with comfy love seat and armchairs to augment the bar. The patio is also a great (and usually quieter space) during the summer. I've been there three times now and each visit has been a very positive experience. The bartenders are knowledgeable and service is friendly and reasonably quick. There are ever changing specials that highlight classic cocktails such as the Blood and Sand that are not often seen at other lounges. And they hit my favorite, the Aviation, perfectly. One additional aspect of the Lost Whale that resonates is their commitment to sustainability and the environment. Owners Tripper Duval and Daniel Beres have taken every measure possible to reduce the Lost Whales footprint including using compostable straws and recycling the fresh citrus rinds and skins as additional drink ingredients before adding them to the compost pile. read more

If I could go to Lost Whale for happy hour everyday, I would! This place rocks and I am constantly craving the Negroni Spritz. During happy hour (4 pm - 6 pm on weekdays), all of the signature cocktails are half off (so around $5). I also believe there is a beer/rail special, but why get those during happy hour when the yummiest drinks are only $5?! Beyond the happy hour, the atmosphere of this place is so cute. They have done a wonderful job making the intimate space feel casual yet romantic. There are big, comfy chairs and couches to sit in as well as super modern looking lights and tables. The service is always speedy and friendly, but I have never been here at a time when it has been particularly busy. Later in the evening (around 6 pm) they have the Iron Grate BBQ truck in the back.
