I had a baked potato for lunch which was really good too. However when I got home and my husband and I ate the turkey meat over the next week, we noticed some of it tasted like it had been marinated in Fabuloso, the multipurpose cleaner. It only affected maybe 1/4 of what we got but it was almost like those slices were dropped in this cleaner and put back into the batch. I thought about calling and letting them know something was wrong but was really unsure how to word that. Everything else was really good but I don't think I can go back after that.

The owner and employees, especially Bailey, are AMAZING!!! I recommend this place highly! You know how most BBQ places, when you get the baked potato you have to mix everything up and it's kind of annoying? Not here. Everything was mixed and the pulled pork was put on top. It was fantastic!! All I can say is WOW! The decor was adorable with the little sign pictured. There was a sign in the bathroom that said wash your hands - don't be gross. there was also an awe's

One of the joys of traveling around Texas is finding places like this. We'd spent the previous…read morenight in Lubbock and our bartender at the restaurant told us about TC's Ponderosa. He'd grown up in the Dickens area so it was a local favorite of his. We veered a little out of our way to stop here for lunch and were so happy we did. As others have mentioned--you'd drive right past it if you didn't look closely. Looks like an almost-abandoned gas station. Inside, it was packed with people, including a local rancher buying lunch for the cowhands working her ranch. That's a big endorsement in my book. As mentioned in a couple of reviews, this isn't the place to be in a hurry. Orders were written down by hand and the money was collected by a sweet, friendly woman who grew up when the world wasn't so uptight and fast. Bless her heart for sticking to her pace. You can get stressed out it or you can settle in and enjoy the moment. We enjoyed every bit of it. The food was the final payoff. Damn good BBQ. Everything we had was good. Pretty good chance I'll be on the motorcycle again in west Texas and an even better chance the day will be planned to be in Dickens when I'm hungry!

Ribs were incredible. Very peppery and basted with a vinegar-based mop sauce. Quite different from The Shack's (Lubbock), which lean more sweet. Sausage was outstanding. Quite possibly the best I've had anywhere. I assume they have it prepared to a proprietary recipe given all the sausage production in and around Slaton. The sides were good, but not as good as the meat. Mustard-based tater salad was of the mashed rather than chunky variety. Good mustard flavor, but I prefer chunky tater salad. Never had fried cabbage before, but this was very good with lots of bacon in it. I'd definitely order it again. Pleasant although primitive atmosphere at this joint. It's located in an ancient gas station/auto repair building and they haven't done anything to fix it up. But it absolutely fits with the food they serve. BBQ ain't alta cucina and in some ways the more rude the setting, the more appropriate it is. At any rate, they played good music--CCR, Fleetwood Mac, America, Dion and the Belmonts, etc. Bottom line, as long as joints as good as Pitforks and Smokerings and The Shack are open in the Lubbock area, I don't see any reason to be bothering with the lines and lack of seating at Evie Mae's. These are the local joints that are getting my cue money for the foreseeable future.
