This was a charming find on our last-minute stay in Boulder! Nestled at "the foot of the mountain"…read moreis this delightful motel, founded in 1934. Jess greeted us cheerfully, honored an online discount (found on their website), and set us up with everything we needed. This was so appreciated, especially on short notice. Everything here is kitsch and cute! The cozy rooms have individual heating and cooling, warm blankets, TV (not that you will want to watch it with the breathtaking views of nature available), mimi fridge, a shampoo/conditioner/body wash dispenser and makeup remover towelettes, hair dryer and plenty of towels. Board games and books were available for use. Bicycles were available to rent for $5 an hour but it was raining so we didn't use them. There was no shortage of blankets or pillows. We burrowed under them and slept deeply. Complimentary breakfast was served until 9am and the offerings were delicious: coffee, juices (orange, apple, cranberry), milk (dairy, soy, almond). Bagels and English Muffins with butter, jelly, peanut butter and cream cheese. Four kinds of cereals (including Cinnamon Toast Crunch, my fave). Oatmeal. Fruit and hard boiled eggs. Postcards, hats, posters and mugs were available for purchase. I bought a postcard to send to my daughter in Nebraska. Jess offered to stamp and mail it for me! I enjoyed my coffee on a bright red outdoor chair while breathing in crisp mountain air and surveying the beauty around me. We have stayed in high end hotels and Air BnB's in Boulder before but this has been our favorite spot! We will absolutely return.

For me, I should have read the small print! $$ First of all... The young lady at the front desk had to deal with me after I had not slept for 36 hours, I have to give her a very high rating for fixing my reservation and allowing me to sleep in one of the cabin room for one night instead of on a hostel cot in a unit with five other people. I did go out and make a reservation at a different establishment for the other two nights that I was going to stay in Boulder. Second of all, I just needed to sleep... So this was a perfect place to lay my head until the morning. The three stars is definitely for the staff as they were very kind and very accommodating. I don't know how to rate the room itself. The railing that led to my room was rickety so I did not use it to climb the stairs that were also questionable. The room itself and the bed and linen were clean, but the floor of the tub was so brown that I could not take a shower in it. The TV did not work, and there was no air-conditioning. They did supply a box fan, which I set up in front of the TV (that was not functional) and slept with the fan blowing on me all night. Yes, I was in Colorado, but during the summer it's as warm as Georgia! For those of you who hate your phone, this is the perfect place for you as there is NO... And I mean zero... Cell service. The bright side is, is that they do provide Wi-Fi So there you have it! Enjoy life, make lots of memories, and safe travels

The rooms are very ordinary, not as they appear when you are booking. It's also in a great location--very close to the University of Colorado Boulder and walkable to a lot of shops and restaurants. The lobby is definitely the highlight--absolutely beautiful with intricate details, a vintage glass ceiling, and a grand, elegant feel that gives you a sense of the building's history. Our room was clean, and the bathroom was also well-maintained. The surrounding area felt safe, which we appreciated. That said, the room itself was a bit dark, which seems pretty typical for many American hotels. The biggest downside for us was the required valet parking. It meant we never really had easy access to our car unless we wanted to go through the hassle of requesting it every time. Because of that, we ended up just using Uber the whole stay. Personally, I would much rather just pay to park and have direct access to my own vehicle. To be fair, the valet staff were always very friendly and welcoming whenever we came and went. We also ran into some minor inconveniences--there didn't seem to be enough robes, towels, or washcloths available during our stay. Overall, it was fine for a short visit. The lobby is stunning and the location is excellent, but the valet situation alone would make me choose somewhere else next time.

The hotel lobby appears recently remodeled and has lots of space for seating. The outdoor patio is even bigger, with fire pits, and tons of room for sitting al fresco. Near the front desk is a grab and go store with various snacks, drinks, toiletries, medicine, etc. Rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable. WiFi was efficient. The shower pressure was like getting hit by Niagara Falls and honestly I'm here for it! Only drawback for me was the loud air conditioning when it kicked in. Like, you had to increase the volume on the television, and then lower the volume when it stopped. I didn't take advantage of the amenities (pool, dining, gym) due to my work schedule. However we did hang out by the fire pits and these are a nice touch. Now, one of them wasn't working and the other was going in and out, but the fact they had them was a win. Personally not a fan of the parking situation underneath the hotel. It shares a lot with the other hotels and businesses, and the parking spaces are way too tight. Parking isn't included and charged to your room upon checkout. Pros are free coffee in the lobby, walking distance to The Buff and Twenty Ninth Street Mall, and overall an engaging staff willing to accommodate your needs. Would suggest this hotel for friends staying in Boulder!

I was attending a conference in downtown Boulder, but looking for inexpensive, yet safe, accommodation. The reviews for Boulder University Inn were remarkably good for the price point, so I booked. When we arrived, I was a bit skeptical given the outside appearance. It looked like an old motel. Checking in at the front desk was easy and pleasant enough. It felt like a small, old school motel, which was different than the big hotel chains I'm used to, but it had its own kind of charm. The room was basic, but clean and comfortable. The real charm came from the service though. Samantha was at the front desk and when my sister and I asked about the safety of the area (in terms of walking to Downtown Boulder and back, possibly at night), she gave us great info and made us feel comfortable. Beyond giving us a quick lay of the land, we were extremely thirsty after a long walk and she was so kind as to offer us some extra complimentary waters. This was a small thing, but sets a small hotel apart from the big chains where no one has the autonomy to make someone's day with a little kindness. Overall, an affordable, safe, and decent hotel in Boulder that I'd definitely return to in the future!

The building itself is still very rustic, without central heat or AC. But at least it now has a solid roof over our heads and no longer leaks into the buckets on the floor as it did in 1975. The lamp and clock on the chipped and stained nightstand were completely crooked which was odd. We thought for a moment that we walked into the wrong room. This $300 stay was in a room that can be seen at a $120 La Quinta Inn. I travel for a living and am in roughly 30+ hotels a year. I was thankful though that the bed and pillows were comfortable enough to sleep well in. The towels are rough and cheap or old maybe? The bathroom counter needed repair. Just overall not good. Upon first arrival to the inn we walked in to be greeted by one in tact and one half eaten small muffin on the food bar which I guess was the snack offering as it was on a little service dish not an individuals plate. Super uninviting. The parking was great though and appreciated. We did enjoy the Great Room a little while during our stay which was cozy. When we got back from our dinner on Friday evening just before 9pm we wanted a cup of hot tea for bed and there was no longer any hot water on the beverage bar. What a disappointment. I will also say the tea choices were worse than that at a Hampton Inn. Very basic and not even close to even what a mid level hotel offers. The breakfast was nice. Quiche looked amazing but by the time we came down to eat at 9:45 which I understand is 15 minutes before it ended - the warmer was off and the quiche was cold. We did grab a muffin which tasted like it was from Safeway or Costco but it helped as we were hungry. Instead we had to eat a light bite across the street at the cafe. Another disappointment. Overall what could and should have been a really special experience felt like a run down room with a mediocre breakfast experience. I came with my adult daughter to celebrate her 26th birthday and I have to be honest and say that I felt terrible that I chose this inn. We made the best of it and really enjoyed our time together just the same because after all that is what mattered most.
