First time trying Los Tres Amigos inside, I've had takeout before and I enjoyed it. We were seated pretty quickly. However, after ordering food it took quite a while for the food to come out and the majority of the food was a beef burrito covered with queso. So I'm not sure why it took so long. The queso was good and the salsa was just ok. Inside there are booths and tables, so plenty of seating. They could make some updates. It's worth a try if you're in the area. read more

Had planned to eat at Shanghai per a friend's recommendation, but they were short staff and had a wait so we thought we would try Los Tres Amigos instead. We were seated quickly even though the restaurant was pretty full and thought their chips and salsa were good (see picture). I was not impressed with their Paloma. It was served in a tap beer glass, didn't have Tajìn on the rim (only very light salt) and didn't taste that good. We later asked how it was made and apparently they use lime juice and Squirt...my preference includes grapefruit juice and soda water or Fresca. My wife enjoyed her Carnitas Dinner (see picture) and the flavor was good in my Los Tres Amigos (see picture), but I was disappointed with how thin and tough the steak and chicken were. I'm quite unsure why los tres has such low reviews, I've been going to this spot since I moved to Iowa back in 2018 and they've always managed to keep everything the same (in an amazing way). The salsa and chips are delightful and I love the texture of the salsa. The rice and beans are amazing (I'm vegetarian so my options are limited), and importantly, the service is also great. I've always found them to be very kind, understanding, and hospitable people. read more

My family got take out and our meals were the worst we've had from this restaurant. It has went downhill terribly. My son's tortillas were moldy so I can't imagine what we ate and didn't see since ours were covered in sauce. We did throw most of the food away. I called to talk to a manager but the lady said he was unable to come to the phone. She did not seem surprised when I told her my issue. She kept stating that she could "give me more tacos" and I told her no thank you. She took my number but I never received a call from the manager. read more

This place had outstanding service. This was my first time at this particular restaurant, they were always coming around to make sure we had drinks and that the food was good, the salsa wasn't very chunky but it was still very good. The portions were very good. The only downfall of this restaurant was the lettuce and cheese in the taco tasted like it wasn't very fresh. Normally have good service but recently one of their waiters who has served us twice has been rude, doesn't let us finish a sentence when ordering, and says "one second" walks away and doesn't ever come back. We gave him grace the first time thinking maybe he was having a bad day. Now we are here again, he is still being rude, doesn't let us finish our sentences, and never comes back. Horrible service from start to finish. No one smiled, it was as if they were put out to be there. First time there and it was our last. The chips and salsa were average. Over the last several years, I've had the distinct displeasure of watching this place go from pretty good, to average, to not great, and finally where we're out now- we won't go anymore. From food being served cold, to items missing from take out orders, to food being served incorrectly, and all with a staff that seems bored and like they'd rather be anywhere but there... Food was not good. Beans tasted like they were burnt. Ordered fajitas with shrimp, steak, and chicken...no flavor at all. Older kids ordered grande burritos and both said it was horrible. Really not fair to complain. But here I am. Tonight i had chicken mole. They didn't call it that -- i think they called it Chicken Ranchero. Ok, mole sauce is made from chocolate and should scream spicy. There's is runny and bland. Too watered down. The chicken was over cooked and rubbery. Tasted bland. Came with rice and beans. Hard to screw them up. Food is fast and cheep. In and out in 30 minutes. So long as you don't set your expectations too high it will be fine. The menu looked like it had plenty of choices and we looked forward to an authentic Mexican meal last night. It was terrible. The food had no flavor at all. None. Zip. Nada. I had the steak fajitas and they were barely warm. No sizzle. The rice was dry and flavorless as well. We were told that the salsa was medium hot but it too was blander the mildest I'd ever tasted. It was like a watery tomato paste from a can. The whole meal was flavorless, as if they had no idea what adobo seasoning was. Looking at several of the 5 star ratings and comments afterwards, we wondered whether we had just come on a bad night for the kitchen staff or if the patrons that posted their reviews were phony, posted by employees of the restaurant to boost the ratings or if those patrons just had never tasted authentic Mexican food. It's ok. Not FABULOUS Mexican but it fills the craving and is local. I usually get the Guadalajara special or Mexican Ribeye and both are good. Their queso is good, beer is cold and service is consistent. read more

The food is great and the drinks are cheap however our waiter acted as if we were a burden, there was 4 of us we ordered food and drinks and everything time we asked for another drink he got annoyed. At one point he brought us the check without asking before if we needed anything else, so when we said we wanted another round of margaritas he looked at us for a while then walked off annoyed. We spent a lot of money and just wanted a good experience since that was one of our 1st times going out in a long time, we were sad because we needed a good experience and got an angry waiter who didn't want to be there. read more

I had what he had, which is to say we had top shelf margaritas. They were STRONG but GOOD. I think I had two of them. I say 'think" because hell if I can remember. I had the enchiladas and my husband had the fajitas. My husband liked his food a lot and ate until he was nearly sick, not that this is anything new. So portions are sizable. Food is ok to good. We read the reviews and thought we would give it a shot anyways. Ordered their specialty dish(which was good) and a standard taco/enchilada plate. The other reviews are right, NO FLAVOR. The enchiladas and taco were so nondescript....just didn't have any taste. Margaritas were mediocre at best. No discernible tequila in them. We had pollo fundidio which was very good and the $2.25 margaritas makes for a cheap dinner.

Picked up some dinner to go. It was hot and fresh when I got home. They also gave chips and salsa with the to go order which I did not ask for but was pleasantly surprised by.
