Wow! We flew into Loreto this afternoon, settled in our lodging, and walked out to the malacon. Randomly chose this restaurant because it appeared to have a terrace overlooking the Sea of Cortez -- it does. It was a quiet evening (Tuesday) and there were only a few other diners. We started with a couple of margaritas classically made -- no sweet "slurpy" here, just good old tequila and lime juice on the rocks. Next, I ordered Poblano Chile stuffed with shrimp and my partner ordered Los Olivos Fish (catch of the day). Both were fabulous! But, while waiting for our dinner order, we were presented with a lovely order of the house appetizer -- lightly toasted slices of baguette and tapenade. We basically had a private waiter who discreetly waited balcony side until we asked to order, additional drink, etc. I'm in love with this place and will be back SOON. The breakfast here was fabulous this morning! The Eggs Benedict were the best I've ever had! My wife had the American breakfast with ham, O'Brien potatoes, beans & toast. Muy rico! We came here with family tonight for the first time for a birthday celebration and we were not disappointed. From the moment we entered we were greeted with smiles and a warm welcome from staff. We were seated at a beautiful outdoor table overlooking the sea and the malecon and so the setting was beautiful. Erick was our waiter for the evening and we couldn't have asked for a better and more attentive waiter. He anticipated our needs, made great suggestions however was never hovering or intrusive. The food was incredible. Everything put in front of us was beautifully presented, cooked to perfection, and delicious. From the tapenade, Caesar salad, soup, entrees of fish, and the special molcajete it was the best we've had in Loreto. Al this was topped off with a wonderful cheesecake and tiramisu. Dinner for 4 less than $30 US was superb in quality of ingredients and full of flavor. Short but thoughtful menu consists of tradition Mexican date and tradition Italian entrees. Chipotle chicken Pasta was devoured by those of us who appreciate spiciness. The dish is a kicked up version of the Becca di Beppie red fettuccini dish. The fettuccini was cooked to al dente perfection. The seafood risotto was cooked firm and the flavors of Italian boldness. Nothing here is bland for dinner, except their cocktails. I'm a lightweight and their pina colada was lacking in taste. I was staying at this hotel and didn't feel like walking anywhere the first night so I decided to eat here. I had ceviche, a steak and two margaritas and if I remember correctly it was about $20! All that for a restaurant with views of the water, great service, a full bar, white table cloths and English speaking waiters. It really was an excellent meal from beginning to end. We just ate dinner here and it far exceeded our expectations. I had the sea bass and it was lovely. My son had the tortilla soup and it was delicious. Daughter had the shrimp and it they were cooked to perfection but the risotto they came with was the best ever. Ok the flan was meh but the dinners were totally worth the visit. We had a late breakfast and sat out on the patio. The view of the water and the sunshine on our table made for a great first day of vacation. My husband ordered the eggs Benedict and loved it. He said it may be the best eggs Benedict he's ever had. I ordered the chilaquiles with over-easy eggs and the were delicious. We will probably eat breakfast here again tomorrow. read more

Went here for dinner the other night. What started out nicely (view, friendly staff) quickly evaporated as it took over 20 minutes for Erick to come back and take our order. Then he forgot my tortilla soup which was supposed to come out when my husband's appetizer came. My funghi risotto was mushy and I only ate a 1/4 of it. Then we waited another 30 minutes to get our bill. A 2 hour dinner which could have been 45 minutes. Service all over Loreto was really slow but I was expecting more from this restaurant given the reviews. read more

Los Olivos is the main restaurant at the Hotel La Mision (not La Mansion). The hotel has many options of food service and seating styles from poolside/highly informal to pub/bistro and then white tablecloth, indoor and out, but all meals appear to originate in the main Los Olivos kitchen. There is a large poolside bar and a smaller more formal cocktail style bar inside on the second floor by the main restaurant, I am not sure why the Yelp title listing notes only pizza and cocktail bar but they have that but very complete menu all meals of the day as well. We are not usually big fans of hotel based restaurants finding them formulaic and somewhat lowest common denominator. The menu here has some of that "something for everyone" curse but we found all the food to be good, some excellent and the service universally friendly and eager to please. I would especially compliment the management and staff for an extraordinary effort they put on to mount a full American style Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. It was clearly an all hands on deck effort that maybe was not exactly like mom used to cook, but was really very well done including all the festive decorations of the season and servers working hard to make it a delightful meal for all. I think the staff was rightfully very proud of their efforts and they certainly get our compliments and thanks. I can only imagine the effort they make for Christmas, a holiday shared more equally with the Mexican people. The food selection is more American/Canadianized than I would have liked but all was very good. The things with Mexican flair I found more interesting and I would encourage maybe a special truly Mexican offering for each meal rotating by day. They have a pastry chef and the brownie dessert must be tried. The cheesecake was amazing too. I was at the poolside bar some days and people came in for one drink and orders of the brownie to go in the afternoon which is something I have never seen anywhere else. On weekends and holidays they have a buffet breakfast that is good value and good selection. The bartenders are universally friendly although the pool bar can get overwhelmed on hot days when do many of us get thirsty in the sun. read more
