We originally came here because we had a gift certificate, but this has officially become our new favorite Mexican restaurant! It's a small, 'no-frills' spot, but it is incredibly clean and welcoming. My husband is from El Paso and is very picky about his Mexican food, but even he was impressed. They serve one of the best Chile Rellenos we have ever had. The service was excellent, the pricing is very reasonable, and the overall ambiance feels truly authentic. Wanted a steak and a beer had the carne asada and it did not disappoint. Cooked to perfection, seasoned well and paired with a nice ice cold bottle of beer. The service was good, we weee well taken care of by our waitress. The restaurant is clean and the tables are spaced apart from other tables nicely. I can't believe I've lived so close to a tasty Mexican restaurant for so long and only just tried it! Best Mexican food in Little Elm. My friend had the taco salad and their chicken was flavored beautifully. I love their chips and salsa as well. I've also tried their chile relleno which was very delicious. It's a cute little cozy place with outdoor seating, which is very nice! Their service is quick, and their entire staff is very kind and attentive. We drive to Little Elm at least every 6 weeks. We have been talking about trying Los Jalapeños for some time now, since we drive right by it otw home. And with that being said we adore Mom & Pop restaurants and businesses. Well, our experience was a Huge disappointment!!! We arrived about 12:15 and the restaurant was not busy. Our chips were cold & the salsa, meh. We ordered 2 top shelf margaritas on the rocks, and they were super sweet...WAY too much simple syrup. We ordered combo fajita nachos, which took 25 minutes to arrive to table. They tasted good, but we had to wave down the buss girl to bring us more salsa. On our 2nd round of drinks we ordered 2 beers, they were cold and fine. I went to use the bathroom which way filthy and smelled of sewer gas! The lid to the commode had a 3"X 2" chip in it. If I had gone to the bathroom first, we NEVER would have eaten here!!! Ugh! Our tap was $55 with an $8 tip...service was also meh. When we were leaving to get in our car the parking lot reeked of the grease pit being pumped, pretty nasty experience all around. Let me just say, never going back...!!!!! read more

I regret to say that my experience at Los Jalapenos restaurant was completely unacceptable. After dining here, I experienced drastic gastrointestinal symptoms consistent with severe food poisoning. As a result of my extreme symptoms, I was rushed to the hospital. I have reported this to the Texas Department of Health Services and The Denton County Health Department, this issue needs to be investigated and addressed immediately! This is a serious health concern that should never have happened at any establishment, especially one that serves food to the public. This place is cute. We went on a Sunday for lunch and I got caldo de res. It was piping hot and a very large bowl full. This was my second visit to Los Jalepenos and there are issues here. Why be deceitful and lie? Also, don't order the tamales. I'll elaborate. Went here with my wife about 4 months ago. Did not review it because figured anybody can have a bad night. Went back by myself and now I'm reviewing. First thing, I ordered a margarita on happy hour. Had a good 2 minute conversation with the waitress - the same waitress I had before. I said I'll have the $4 house margarita and she said the house marg isn't on happy hour. I said I'll have whatever the $4 margarita is and I'm pointing at it on the menu and she's looking at it, with $4 in bold. All good, she brings me the margarita. Yes, she speaks English well. I'm eating, and I ask for another margarita and I say I'll have another one of those $4 margaritas. Again, I point to the drink menu where it says "$4" in bold red and she says OK. When I get the bill, they charge me $6 a piece. We must have said the word $4 about 6 times, myself about 4 times and her 2 - While I Was Pointing At It. When I question her, she explains to me that the prices on the menu are wrong and that they're actually $6. At that moment, I had complete Deja Vu. I ask the guy who looks like he might be the manager and he says there is no manager in, they will be in tomorrow. Really? I paid the bill and took a couple of dollars off the tip. Figured I'm not going to raise cain about a few dollars. The waitress would have gotten about 25-30% but she got 15 so split my losses with her tip. I called my wife on the way home and said, man, Deja Vu and she said, it's not Deja Vu, they did the same crap to us 4 months ago. Now I'm really annoyed. I had the same waitress and the same nonsense happen and the menus still says $4 and the reason it felt like Deja Vu was that this isn't some anomaly, this is standard practice. This isn't a mistake, it's on purpose. It's not the $2 a piece, it's the fact that the waitress knows it, the staff knows it, and they just do it anyway. I actually asked her if $6 is the Gringo price. I seriously think it is. Now the food. I asked the waitress who is Hispanic how the Tamales were. She said, great, that alot of people come in an order the Tamale plate. Well, I got the Mexican dinner so I got to try a sampling. The tamale was terrible. About 95% masa and 5% filling. I'm been to some Tamale making parties. If I made that myself I would have been embarrassed and started over and I'm a complete beginner. The waitress has to know they are crappy, just lied to me. The one positive thing I can say is the refried beans are good. Don't understand why you would serve a tamale like that. Notice how few people are in here at peak times and now you know why. You shouldn't feel scammed and dissatisfied when you leave a restaurant. Remember, it was my second visit and it happened both times. Not coming back. read more

Ok after 10 years in LE, I finally went to Los Jalapeños, just never looked that appetizing when driving by. Ok went for breakfast, and it is an Ok place, first and foremost this is really a Tex-Mex place, not full on Mexican, the salsa is one of the first things I try out. In Mexican food if you don't have a great salsa, then it goes downhill from there. The salsa is not very good tastes like it came from a bottle, tasted very weak. Had the menudo (not easy to make) I am happy to say it was not bad, good chunks of tripe, hominy, Oregano, onions, cilantro, and a very amazing fried oil chiles (Macho chile) don't see that very often. The wife had the chilaquiles, while they did not look very appetizing, the wife said it was good, chilaquiles is also an art form and should be presented as such, the ones here looked like a train wreck, but wife said they were good, the real Chilaquiles have the fried corn chips with green salsa and the egg on top or on the side, Los Jalapeños just mixes everything together and hence the train wreck look. Another positive they seem to make there own corn tortillas which was nice, coffee was weak tasting, I give it a 3 out of 5, very average. I might try them again the rumor is they make great fajitas, but they need to work on the salsa. read more

Went in, had trouble finding a clean table. Waitress came out, chewing food, telling us to sit where we wanted. We sat down, we were handed 3 very dirty menus and we began to look through the menu. Time passed, not a drink order was taken, silverware dropped off, no chips, and no salsa to be found. We waited a few more minutes. One server was at the register, hanging out, and I assume the other server was finishing up her food she was eating when we showed up..at lunch time. Finally I said enough, we got up and left. On the way out the server by the register couldn't have cared less. Once in the car we all noticed how greasy we all smelled from just the 10 minutes in the restaurant. I doubt this place cares, I see years of bad reviews. I should have looked before going. Main issue is their service, the don't care. We went here for a lunch date since my husband was carving something Mexican. The place was not busy and we got seated right away. We picked an outside table since the weather was nice. The server was very attentive and got our drinks out quickly. Once we placed our order, it probably took less than 10 minutes to get our food. And man do I tell you they are authentic! I ordered menudo, which you won't find at most big box mexican places and the tripe was super soft. The spices were well balanced. The stuffed jalapenos were spot on and they did not go cheap on the stuffing. I will highly recommend especially if you are. Im literally sitting next to the toilet as I write this review. My ex-husband, daughters and I went here tonight for a quick dinner after softball practice. There was no one in there at 6:40pm, which should have been my first clue. My enchilada tastes like Fabuloso floor cleaner... I'm not kidding. The corn tortillas were cold and chewy, and there was this awful tart aftertaste. My ex got a chimichanga topped with queso... the chimichanga was soggy and the queso was Velveeta. I immediately started feeling queasy, we got the bill and left. Within 10 minutes of getting home, I had to run to the bathroom to throw up. Both of my daughters feel nauseous and my ex texted me to tell me he is sick as well. Safe to say we do not recommend, and we'll never be back. This place surprised my wife and I. We always wanted to stop here and finally have the opportunity today. I got the fajitas all carbon and my wife got the Mexican dinner. Her Mexican dinner had a tamale, cheese enchilada, and a taco with rice and beans. She said the taco was wonderful, and the shell was pretty thick. The enchilada was good. The tamale was the only thing that was questionable. I like tamales and I tried it. The rice and beans are OK. We got Pacifico draft beers that were good, cold, and big. The fajita meat was thick/steak, probably thicker than any restaurant I've been to. All of the fixings like the pico, guacamole were excellent.
