I am from the states and most of our Mexican restaurants start you with chips and salsa complimentary but it's a charge here, the salsa was delicious though! We didn't have a reservation and were able to walk in but many tables were reserved so I recommend calling ahead. The portions are huge and you will not leave hungry. The enchilada verde had a lot of flavor and a kick to it! read more

Los Huesos - Food menu - Mexican Near Me - Vernon, British Columbia

Not a bad place. Good Mexican food, but as someone who's lived half my life in California, this doesn't quite measure up to 4-star standards. The sauces are decent. The meat, is just very plain though and uninspiring. The chicken is slightly dry and very plain. The pulled pork, there is no juiciness. Like, I think I expect carnitas to be crispy or juicy or both. Same for the chicken. So, it's OK. However it's not decent enough for me to want to come back. read more

I've lived in Vernon for 6yrs and tonight was my first visit. Honest, the Best Mexican food I have had in years (and that's coming from big cities like Toronto and Halifax!) I have never liked guacamole until tonight lol and I'm old! The service was on point, perfect. Wonderful waiter and no interruptions but served as needed. The restaurant itself has a wonderful atmosphere and I would recommend this place over and over again! I can't wait to come back! Thank you read more

Los Huesos is an incredible spot. The food is so good and the service is amazing. Definitely would recommend checking this spot out. Luis who was our server was so nice. read more

Read some reviews and decided to try this restaurant out while in town. What a gem! To start, the atmosphere is great, the owner and staff are very friendly and the music was entertaining, but not overwhelming. To start a lime Margarita on the rocks and a mango margarita, both made to perfection with good ingredients. We had home made guacamole with the chips, then shared a tortilla soup, one of the best we ever had. Out came our entree, a pork Burrito we decided to share. Thank goodness, it was huge! Between the two of us we could only eat half. On top of all that the price was reasonable, looking forward to coming back next time in town. read more

Awesome! Friendly service starting off with complimentary chips and salsa. Margaritas were great and our enchiladas hit the spot in size and taste. The whole experience brought up fond memories of our visits to Mexico, which for me was the best part and proof that it was authentic. read more

I had such high hopes coming here after reading all the other reviews. I can only assume that their normal chefs were away, or being held hostage in the back. Started off with their "hand-cut salsa" and chips. First things first. The salsa is not hand cut. At best, it's cut once or twice, and then it is tossed into a food processor where it is made into a gritty tomato sauce. The flavors weren't horrible, but the texture was awful. Followed it up with the Enchiladas Divorciadas. The chicken (green) was stringy and dry. The sauce itself was tasty and saved it a little, but tough to get over the stringiness. The beef (red) was also super overcooked and stringy. Am still picking the beef out of my teeth hours later. The spanish rice was over salted. They said right on their menu, made fresh daily. Why wouldn't it be? Is your other food not? There was a little lettuce and tomato on my plate as well. Was it to be had with the enchiladas? Was it an attempt at a salad? The only decent part of the dish were the refried beans. I wanted to have the deep fried ice creme and another beer for dessert, but the waitress showed up with the bill and the machine. Guess I don't get to try it after all. I understand why there was only two other tables full. read more

Really huge portions! Very cute little Mexican joint. We ordered the Enchiladas Verde and the Taquitos, both with beef. The Enchiladas Verde were delicious and the sauce was great. I could only eat one of the two enchiladas they were so huge. Every dish you order comes with a massive side of rice and beans which were tasty as well. I personally was not as big of a fan of the Taquitos (the hubby ordered it) since I really like sauce and Taquitos are basically just crispy tortillas stuffed with meat but he enjoyed it so I'll take his word for it. We also ordered a small side of the guacamole which, in my opinion was a bit underwhelming. I tend to like my guac a bit on the mushy, mashed up side but this guac was more chunky that I would normally like. Also, for $3.95, it was quite a small portion. The reason for the one docked star is because a) I felt that they were quite understaffed - hubby ordered a beer and it didn't come for quite some time and b) though the food was good, the more I ate the more everything seemed to be a bit too salty. It wasn't a "hit you in the face" salty but it just seemed to build up and by the end of the meal, though I wanted to have more of the rice and beans, I just couldn't because all I could taste was salt. Overall, good restaurant. Would definitely come back if we were ever back in Vernon. read more

After eating here I get why it gets such good reviews. People in Vernon tend to give 5 stars to big portions at a cheap price, taste is not what they are rating. Service was slow and not friendly until it was time to pay, sorry but 2 minutes of conversation isn't going to increase your tip. We ordered the special, a red and green burrito. The pork was dry. We wanted to order the guacamole and chips but they were out so we ordered salsa and chips and the chips were homemade, I don't think the tortillas they used were and boy were they salty! They said there margaritas were the best, at least that's what the sign said. Took 10 minutes to make and they were average. The chandeliers still had the payment stickers on the inside of the light which is irrelevant I know but irritated me. Wouldn't go back here, it's very forgettable. I would have shared my feedback with the server but she never asked how our food was. read more

We have been to several Mexican Restaurants in the Okanagan Valley.... and have been disappointed by the Quality and the Quantity...And the amount of Grease dripping off the Food. So we decided to give "Los Huesos" a try! We stopped in for Lunch... The interior of the Restaurant is clean, and decorated nicely...Plus it's well laid out... Our Server "Luis" was prompt, and was also very knowledgeable about the Menu... I ordered "Enchilada Verde" [with Roasted chicken in the wraps] for $10.95... My Husband ordered the "Toco Salad Des Res"...Which has quite a bit of Shredded Beef on top. While we were waiting, Luis brought us a bowl of WARM home-made Natcho's, along with a delicious Salsa to accompany it! The flavour of both was exceptional! The Salsa tasted VERY fresh. The noise level was moderate, which was nice, for a quiet conversation. When our Lunch arrived, we were amazed by the amount of FRESH Food! The "Taco Salad Des Res" for $10.95, was so big, my husband couldn't eat it all...and he tried! [If you are a Vegetarian, omit the meat.... the Salad rides on it's own flavour!] My plateful consisted of two large roled up "Chicken Enchilada's" on either side of my Dish, and some Tostada Salad in the middle, which was sitting on top of a big Natcho, with Refried Beans spread on it.... The Verde' Sauce was perfect... I managed to eat the whole meal.... which was totally satisfying! The best thing is there wasn't a sign of "grease" in the Food... I didn't feel like I just ate a Brick of Lard for Lunch! We will go back to "LOS HUESOS !! read more

Just plain wonderful. Authentic recipes, generous portions and great staff. I actually went to this restaurant three times the week I discovered it. Enchiladas are terrific and the pork tacos great. Homemade salsa is the terrific, especially the Verde. Heard live music here a few times, like the guitarist, love the combo. Also gotta mention the washrooms -- very nice. read more

Super authentic Mexican food! We were recently in Southern California (to sample Mexican food) so we were surprised and impressed by the delicious dinner we ate at Los Huesos. The pulled pork enchilada, spanish rice, the refried beans, the side greens with salsa all served on a nice big platter were filling and healthy tasting. You know what I mean? You could tell that the cooks cared about making their dishes head and shoulders above the rest of the usual casual eatin' Mexican places. The margaritas are a generous pour too. They don`t serve no stinkin` wimpy girlie margaritas here, amigo. Awesome live flamenco guitar on Friday and Saturday nights! read more

Los Huesos - a plate of enchilada and a salad - Mexican Near Me - Vernon, British Columbia

Highlights were a nice casual room and friendly staff (who strike me as the owners - they have that kind of care for the guest). Unfortunately, that didn't quite make up for the fact that they were out of rice (at 8:45 on a Friday night), the classic margarita (signature drink) didn't pack much of a punch, and the music was not Spanish or Mexican at all. To be fair, the sign outside said "live guitar," but I was expecting - in part because of Yelp reviews - some nice Spanish guitar. Instead, a young man played singer/songwriter hits, including an amusing (but totally out-of-place) soft-rock version of Enter Sandman. Besides lacking rice, the food itself was good for North-of-the-49th Mexican. It did feel authentic and more simple than sloppy. read more

Best Mexican food ever!! I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food but this place was convincing. I also dislike Avocado but this place had me chowing down on chips and their home made guacamole and salsa. We even asked for secods. A bit on the salty side which I don't mind when I'm drinking!! I recommend it for sure. Awesome server as well;) read more

Ive eaten here two times. Once when it first opened and once this weekend. The menu is small and so toned down to please locals that it left little to be desired. Shredded beef, chicken or roasted veg...what is that? The first free chips are great but if you have a large table it may be okay to throw a few more tiny bowls our way. 2 chili renos please not one 10 inch tortillas please not 6 The restraunt itself is stunning... Bar great awesome care in beverages. Live music great touch but on a weekend liven it up... It would have been nicer to have had a mexican loop on speaker. Unimpressed... Boring food read more

We were there for Lunch one time... Food was o.k.... but took a long time to deliver to the table... The servers are nice... restaurant is nice, tidy and laid out nice..... now they only open for Dinner, and we go out for Lunch...so we won't be going again, I guess!.... read more

Ate here after a recommendation and it was totally worth it. Bring and appetite or be prepared to share or bring leftovers home. The portions are huge and the food is excellent. A nice atmosphere and quick service. One note of caution...if you order the deep fried ice cream...only get one! There is enough to share with 4 people...and even then, you may not finish it! read more

We went to this restaurant last night for my hubbies birthday. "La comida estuvo deliciosa." The food was the best. Being a picky eater I even enjoyed it. There is something there for every level of taste buds..We will definitely be back even if it is a 45 minute drive to town. Well worth it. The prices and portions where excellent. Along with the nice decor and friendly staff. Thank you read more

This place is the best Mexican you can find this far North of Mexico and it never disappoints until recently. My last visit I found there were some changes made that I didn't like. The hand cut tomato salsa is gone and has been replaced with this blender style version like you'd buy in the grocery store. Please bring back the authentic stuff! Finally, the live music. Love it but it is always too loud for this small space and when the live music starts, so does my desire to get the heck out of there. read more

Honestly can not understand why other people gave this place good review... probably never had decent mexicain food. Extremely salty to makeup from the lack of taste. Inedible! My husband and I could not eat more than 1/4 of our plates. Service is extremely slow... we ordered three simple drinks, they were served one by one 10 minutes apart from each other! Would not recommend! read more

Stopped here on a whim...did not disappoint! Portions are huge, both my wife and I couldn't finish our meals. The refried beans were fantastic and I highly recommend the Chile Rellanos. The service was a bit slow, but for an evening out, we were able to just enjoy the time together. Good margaritas too!! read more

I ate here twice in two days!!! The first time my friend brought me and we were amazed at how fresh and delicious the food was. She ordered the taco salad and it was large enough for two meals. We had the most delicious pina colodas as well. The next day I brought three of my friends and they all loved it. It was also no problem for one of our vegetarian friends to have her meal modifed. The manager was very friendly and helpful and we could hear them making fresh guacamole for us in the kitchen. I highly recommend this place and will be back whenever I am in town. read more

Very disappointed to arrive at 7 pm last night to be greeted with Reservations??? We had none ... the website did not say reservations required OR reccomended for dinner ... but OK it's Friday, it's busy ... we can wait. The hostess would not even give us a wait time ... explaining it would make the other diners feel rushed. Lovely evening to sit outside while we wait .. lest our piercing gaze upset the others ... or even go for a walk. But no such options we presented. Just No! How ironic ... if the two empty tables we saw when we came remained empty because of a no show. read more

I love this place. I try to eat here at least once every time I'm in town. I always start with a nice cold Pacifico beer (my fave Mexican brand that I can't get in Ontario!). This goes nicely with the warm, home-made tortilla chips with house salsa (fresh!) - have to restrain myself 'cuz I can pig out on these and then not be able to finish my meal. I usually go for one of the enchilada variations - often the verde (tomatillo sauce), sometimes one verde, one red. I'll switch up the meat combos - one beef, one chicken, sometimes a pork - the best thing is they let you mix it up as you like and there's plenty of shredded real meat of whatever kind you choose. (none of that pressed pseudo-meat you get at some places). Tons of food! Two nice sized enchiladas smothered in the appropriate sauce with just a light drizzle of sour cream. The refried beans are a little too pureed for my preference, but they still taste excellent - nothing canned here! Bit of fresh salad and some Mexican rice and you've got plenty to eat. read more

Went for lunch, perfectly reasonable Mexican. My dad had a beef burrito in red sauce, nice and big, good presentation, $11. My mom had a beef salad, which was okay but the salad was nothing but lettuce, so she didn't finish it. They had no vegetarian option on the menu so they made me grilled veg enchilada for $11, it was tasty. Taste of the food was actually pretty good, four stars for that, but three stars cuz it was a little gloomy at lunch, sticky table and there was a smell, and chemical cleaners being used as we ate, didn't like that. Nice staff tho. read more
