I've stopped here three times when passing through town. All of my meals have been excellent. The buffet I had here was one of the best Mexican buffets I've had, and I live in Tucson. Everything was fresh and didn't seem like it has been warming for an excessive time. Stopped here yesterday, lunch for, and we all had lunch specials. It was a LOT of food for the price. I had the carne asada, and it wa nice and crispy on the outside but still tender. It came with a dollop of pico and guacamole, rice and beans. I could barely finish it. The interior decor is nicely appointed with painted chairs and booths. The only thing I would change is to brighten up the lighting a bit, it's pretty dark in there. The menu is really big! I love that! I was raised on Mexican food and sometimes seeing the same old plates and offerings gets old. This place had many plates I had never even heard of! I opted for the Enchiladas Suizas which had a fried egg on top! Oh man it was spot on! The portion was really good size too. The only complaint was that they first brought me the wrong plate. I kindly let them know and they were apologetic and brought the correct order promptly. The salsa could be a little better but it wasn't too bad at all. A green option would be awesome. The interior is pretty cool too. Lots of great art work from the booths to the walls. We will def be back as this is now our favorite Mexican place up here! Oh and they do have drink specials, the margaritas looked big! Edit: we've been there 4 times now and every time at least one thing with our order was wrong. I took my family here yesterday, as one of my wife's friends recommended it. The ambience was great, but the food was just so-so and the service was awful. My margarita tasted like a raspberry smoothy with no alcohol, so I had to order an extra shot of taquilla for it. My daughter ordered a Shirley Temple but they gave her a soft drink. Both of these deficiencies we mentioned to our waiter, but after 10 minutes they'd still not been rectified, so I went up to the bar and spoke to a gentleman in a red shirt who I assumed to be the manager. He did correct the issue within a couple of minutes. Also, the food wasn't spicy at all. I had to ask for a cup of spicy salsa for my enchilada and for our chips to spice them up, because what they gave us was bland and tomato heavy, but not spicy at all! I was always told that Arizona Mexican food is far better than what they offer back east, but I was disappointed by this experience. Finally, when the waiter delivered the check, he never returned to take my card to pay. We waited 10-15 minutes. Finally I got up and went to the front counter to pay. When I got there, no one was there. An older couple came in just then and someone immediately came over to seat them. Then the phone rang and the lady went to answer it, not even acknowledging that I was there. I had to wave and say "excuse me" loudly to get her attention so that I could pay. This was the worst service experience I've had in a very long time. We'll not be back, and my wife told her friend who recommended this place about our experience, so she may not come back either. read more

Was visiting the area because we were at a bird show up in St. Johns, and there were more food options down here in Show Low. I love Mexican food and we found an online menu for Los Corrales and were really excited to give it a try. The table (of four) shared a large appetizer sampler platter and we were really excited by this. They had some really, really good bacon wrapped shrimp. There was also a cheese quesadilla on the plate that my vegetarian sister really liked and appreciated. Overall, a good decision! I ordered a yummy burrito combination plate. The beans were a little average but, honestly, beans are not what I was coming here for. I thought everything else was really good. Chicken was a touch on the under-seasoned side throughout the table but we did have a lot of salsa to add to the dish. It really made everything yummy in the end. Great margaritas! Wow! When you order from Los Corrales, be prepared for a meal! We went there for lunch. My husband and I both ordered the special Chimichanga for $7.99. It was served with rice and beans. My only regret is that I did not take a picture! Absolutely delicious and more than what we could eat. The medal start it with a big bowl of fresh tortilla chips and delicious salsa. Was in 15 minutes, our steaming hot plates came out with The chimichanga, beans and rice - topped with plenty of sour cream and guacamole. When we are in the area, we will return again. read more

I've been the Los Corrales about 10 times over the last year, and I have to say, it has consistently been the best mexican food I've ever eaten. It's not something most Texans would admit, but Arizona has us beet for Mexican food. To top it off. The service and atmosphere are top-notch. We have never had such bland food in our entire lives!!! We ordered the shredded beef chimi's and they were awful. Very little meat and all tortilla. The refried beans were dull. Truly enjoy this restaurant it's colorfully decorated, great cocktails and traditional dishes. Combination plates are always my family's favorite thing to order , I've tried the chicken tacos on several occasions which are delicious the chicken tastes stewed and sure is tender with lots of great flavor. Had dinner with my family on Cinco de Mayo at the Pinetop location. This location has been open for close to 18 years. I had a cheese and onion enchilada with rice and cholesterol free beans. The beans were great and a nice change from refried. They are now serving $12 pitchers of beer and always the chips and salsa are keep full at your table. You don't need to ask for refills. We have had great service from Miguel there for more than a decade. He is always welcoming and has the best smile! read more

I went to dinner a bit after 4 pm. I discovered happy hour went to 5 pm - bonus! I ordered a margarita and 3 mini taco's with grilled chicken. The waiter gave me chips and salsa, which were tasty. The service was a bit slow but the food was great! The drinks were also pretty good. I've had better but these were acceptable. I sat at the bar and the locals were very friendly and engaged in great conversation. I learned this place is known for large portions. My happy hour 3 mini tacos was more than satisfying for me and was a large plate. Service was slow as they got slammed with customers but I was not in a hurry and enjoyed my meal, the drinks and the company of locals. Definitely go back (as long as I'm not in a hurry). read more

So we stopped at Los corrales in show low for lunch / dinner.. this is what hubby had a mucho burrito..the thing was like 5 pounds for 10.00 he couldn't finish it , he only got through a quarter of it. This was our go-to place for Mexican in SL. Was. The last few times we were here it missed the mark. And last night's just confirmed the trend: something has changed and not in a good way. The retried beans were watery and unseasoned. The taco filling was bland. And whatever they delivered as chili verde looked like it was their take on Nuevo cuisine - literally bright green and looked like they poured ground tomatillos right from the blender. Meat wasn't cooked in the sauce at all, nor was it tender. I don't get why it is so hard to consistently deliver on what are clearly good recipes. Till then, I will avoid. read more

Varied menu, large portions, service was pretty good. Otherwise, I wasn't too impressed. Chips & salsa came first (as usual), salsa was tasty and bright, but chips weren't super crisp. Very limited beer selection (no IPA's, one Pale Ale, some domestic and Mexican beers). I ordered a fish taco platter, but presentation wasn't great. Fish was apparently grilled instead of fried (no choice available), and both tacos lay flat on platter, soaking up moisture from beans, rice, and pico de gallo resulting in some pretty soggy tacos. I am 57 and have been eating authentic Mexican Food my entire life. Living most of my life in SoCal and in Arizona the last 2 years, I have had some pretty darn good Mexican food over the years. Los Corrales may be the best I have ever had, certainly in the top 2 or 3 and the decor is so cool. I rate Mexican food initially by their Chile Verde and their Cadillac Margaritas and Los Corrales earned my respect on both, so much so I came back 1 day later for Chicken Taco and Enchilada plate. It was so much food, I could only eat just more than half, which made for another great lunch. Regarding prices, they can't be beat, especially for lunch. Wife had Ranchero Taquito Plate, I had Chicken Taco and Enchilada Plate, both came with Beans and Rice, both of us had Large Cadillac Margaritas, all for under $50-. Lunchtime rates and Dinner portions, and both visits our waiter brought us a Watermelon Shooter (no charge) for desert. We had a better experience last time but, nonetheless, we still like Los Corrales. They have good lunch specials, which are priced right and the portions are large. They have fried shrimp on the KIDS MENU, which my kid loves and the portion is large!! They were a bit overcooked this time. We should have returned them because our kid complained when he got to the end of them, having picked out the less overcooked ones. Shame on the cook for sending them out overcooked. The atmosphere is nice and very engaging with lots of colors, carved and hand painted chairs and such, but dark. There are no interior windows. I love sunshine!! Our server was friendly but I think she had a hearing problem as she didn't acknowledge a request or fulfill it, and thought my kid ordered a taco when he asked for shrimp. She was missing in action when we were done and wanted the check. I had to get up and ask the cashier for the check. We like thin chips and they serve thick chips. It's tough to find good vegan food and especially so when it comes to Mexican food. We spent the night in Show Low and looking for a place for dinner. We had the veggie burrito minus the sour cream and cheese and it was excellent. It actually contained a good variety of vegetables. The side of whole pinto beans, not refried, were not cooked with lard. Plenty to eat and the blue margarita was very good. There house salsa and chips were very good as was the service. As we walked in we really liked the feel of the restaurant. We were seated right away. Drinks, Chips and Salsa were served right away. Salsa was nice and chips were warm. My wife had a margarita and she loved it. It was a generous size. Enough to get her a little tipsy! :-) Large menu to order from. Large portions. I had the chorizo burrito and my wife had the chimichanga. We both really enjoyed the food. More food than we could eat. The server was polite and refilled my drink when needed.
