This place is excellent. I had the Diablo fajitas and was very happy with that selection. Their red salsa is tasty and more spicy than most restaurants. They do serve a mild green salsa as well. Margaritas are large. It was packed on the Friday night I went. We waited 20 minutes for a table but service was very fast once we were seated. It was loud inside due to every table being full. I say 5 plates out of 19 we good or perhaps maybe cause the "good" ones were good cause we were tipsy by then. The chicken fajitas were rubbery, tortillas were hard, and the rice tasted old. As I am back home, I was looking to throw away some receipts and came across the receipt from this place and notice they are charging a "non-cash fee" to which mine was $5.48! Like seriously!!! I called the restaurant to explain and asked where they would have that posted. She said on the front door, the very doors that was kept opened as it was busy!!!!! Service was great. Food and ambiance was horrific. You can't see anything in there. We think it is probably so you can't see just how filthy it really is. What we could see grossed us out. We ordered guacamole that came out brown. We joked you needed a flashlight to be able to see the color. My husband even said he feels like he needs to wash his sandals after being in there. However we have gotten the same server the past 2 times we've been in and her customer service and attitude is absolutely unacceptable and horrid. Her name is presleigh and she is extremely rude, unprofessional, and will ignore you and your whole party/ table if she's "not in the mood". I don't believe any establishment should have anyone working for them that can not maintain adequate politeness and courteous customer service. Not only were our needs and order ignored by her, our drink order was not put in. And she never came back to check on us or take our food order. We politely asked for a different server and she was outstanding and went above and beyond to make our experience better. As for the one rude, inadequate and inattentive server named presleigh, she will be the reason this restaurant loses customers and local/ regular business. Roaches, watch out... I figured I would try one more time and give it a shot, but still was bad and believe it or not, there were still roaches. Last time I was there , one crawled out of my salad. TRUE , I'm not lying.... I showed the owner and he didn't seem to care, and still had to pay for the ticket. Don't know what people like about this place.. I lived in Rockport for 5 years, years ago. Now, as a tourist I decided to try this place. That was a mistake and not a cheap one. The ample staff seemed overwhelmed. The one and only goal was to get you seated and to serve the next person. It would have been nice to have been checked on during the meal or even spoken to before the check came. The first full sentence said to our party was "is this one check or separate" I knew when I lived here none of the locals came to eat here. I guess it's my fault for giving them a chance. Best fajitas anywhere! Chips and salsa are outstanding and the queso is perfect! It's the first place we hit when coming to Rockport!

Solid 3.5. Ordered beef, chicken, and shrimp via different ways and it was all edible. Salsa that came with the chips seems like an afterthought. It's decent enough, but a good tomatillo salsa would go over much better. Chile con queso was pretty good, especially with the chips they brought out with it. The fresh ingredients (tomato, onion, jalapeños, crema) were enjoyable. Shrimp was on the salty side, and the beans and rice were average at best. Maybe adding a Serrano pepper or two and/or some cayenne, it would improve the beans. Chicken was meh, and the beef fajitas, while very tender, didn't quite get there on flavor. Still a very solid place to eat, and I would definitely come back just for the service alone. Our server Deborah was excellent! That was the most enjoyable part. Was in town and looking for some to-go food. Los Comales was one of the few offering food to go. Placed quite a large order to-go close to business close time and they still made sure everything was taken care of and that I got my food. As for the food, the enchiladas and fajitas were excellent and the chips are very good. I was not terrible impressed with their queso, but that is a minor thing. Normal operations, Los Comales is very good with the only issue being that it is very loud due to music and a building that reverberates. read more

Unfortunately, service is a lost art at most restaurants in Rockport and the young lady that waited on us was no exception to the rule. We waited over 10 minutes to order our food, however, when we were seated, she did take our drink order. The chips and salsas were pretty good. The red sauce was good and spicy and the tomatillo sauce was very good, made with cilantro. Ummm. I ordered the chicken flautas and Sis ordered the Mexican plate. Both eventually were delivered and we prayed over it and started eating. Sis couldn't eat the enchiladas because the chili was very spicy; much too spicy because hot spices give her migraines. She ate the chalupa which was made with ground beef and cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. She said it was very tasty except that it was soggy and there was no crunch to the tortilla. My chicken flautas were definitely the exception to the rule! They were stuffed with chicken and cheese, fried to just the correct crunch and were the best flautas I have ever eaten and I love to eat flautas! Most flautas are thin with hardly any meat. Not these! Again, they were delicious !!! I will go back this week to get more! I don't eat rice and beans so they stayed on the plate. Sour cream and flautas! Wonderful meal. Arrived for dinner on Wednesday evening and the parking lot was full and the place was packed. A good indication! So let's start with the positive! I ordered the Carne Guisada meal with rice and refried beans. My wife ordered the chicken flauta plate.The Carne Guisada was Top Rate and the best I've tasted from restaurants in South Texas. My wife's flautas were crispy and large and were excellent. The beans were very good as well as the Salsa and chips were very good. The service was excellent and our waitress did a great job and was always smiling and cheerful. Now for the not so good! As soon as we walked in I could smell the cigarette smoke. Apparently the restaurant bar is divided from the rest of the building but there is an open window where drinks from the bar are passed through to the wait staff. This window-like opening allows the cigarette smoke to waft into the Non-Smoking section. So we chose a table far away from the bar window. The cigarette smell was, faintly, still there but not as strong. The rice was the usual taste of no taste but the color was good and the rice was fluffy. The tortillas were just alright and tasted like they were something from a store. After we finished our meal this couple came in and ordered something with Jalapeño on a hot serving plate. If you don't know what someone feels like when they are sprayed with Pepper Spray, this was it. Every table around them, including us, were coughing and choking from the smell. Everyone covered their nose in order to breathe. We quickly paid our bill departed coughing and choking from the smell. The final word is that We shall return! My qualifications as an Expert and Experienced Food and Service Critic; I have a BS in Management and have been trained in two Culinary Schools, to include on the job training at other venues. I've managed full service as well as fast food restaurants and have had my own successful Catering business. As a Trainer, I have trained personnel on how to provide superb cuisine and customer service. At the age of 73, I am now retired and enjoy being on the other side of the Apron. read more

It is a Sunday on Memorial Day holiday. We have our senior dog with us and we are on a weekend getaway. Almost all of the restaurants are closed and most are not doing take out. Just can't get a staff to work. Too many people enjoying welfare and food stamps. We can't eat outside with our dog since they are short on staff. We feel bad for them. Plus the fishermen are coming in and looking for food since early afternoon. It is rush hour the whole time. We are happy to take out and go back to our cottage. I had nachos and did not think about that being an appetizer and small. My sponsors had beef enchiladas. Menus are posted on Yelp but they are outdated and the prices are not close to actual. But gas prices are lower than in the big cities gouging everyone. The nachos were tasty. The enchiladas tasted better to my sponsor than to me. Service was very slow. There was not a wait for us to be sat. Unfortunately, our server walked passed us a few times before she came over. It would have been nice to at least acknowledge that we were there. The bean and cheese nachos were horrible. The chips you get at the table with your salsa? Those were the same chips used but dipped in watery beans and tons of cheddar cheese. You couldnt taste the beans at all. You see I was told this is the best restaurant in the town of Rockport, Texas. Ok, we are from New Jersey, and the wait would be worth it to discover TEX/MEX cuisine. First off, the large shrimp appetizer was a mug full of bait shrimp swimming in cocktail sauce with the taste of ketchup and not much else. Very underwhelming. Like pictures of seafood. Anyway, their margarita was excellent. I don't know how they make it so thick but it's also strong. The food was just ok. I got some enchiladas and they came out drenched in sauce to the point where everything fell apart. I could barely tell they were enchiladas. The rest of the sides were about standard as well, but for the prices, I guess I expected a bit more.
