Exceptional Food! & I dont say that lightly.. its hard to find an actual authentic Mexican food place. Me being from Los Angeles, this is truly a gem that i will come to everytime im in town. Compliments to the Chef. read more

Food made with care and delicious fresh ingredients. One of my favorite Bay Area spots, hands down.

First time here. Great tortilla soup and verde enchiladas. Good atmosphere as well. The owner came by and was very gracious.

LOVE Los Cilantros!!! My bf and I have been here a few times since they've opened. The agua frescas are always delicious. I've tried almost everything, but I really love the chilaqiules verde con huevos and the barbacoa is amazing. The staff and the owner are always so friendly too! Fresh, authentic Mexican food. Thanks Los Cilantros. read more

The tacos are prety good. The chile relleno is bland

Great for brunch.. lots of options weather an omnivore or vegan. Beautiful art on the walls, friendly people. Obviously it's mostly Mecican food. They have nopales, so I was thrilled. read more

Enchiladas mole were magnificent. Homemade tortillas too! Can't believe it took me so long to discover this spot.

This restaurant is really cute and fun to hang out at with friends. Some really great things on the menu. Fish tacos are recommended. Some good wines, and juices, too. read more

The food was really delicious, the service was excellent. I would have given 5 stars but the portions were a bit small for the price and there were no complementary chips & salsa. With either larger portions OR chips & salsa (preferably both) this place would be a 5 no question. read more

Delicious homemade guacamole. Tostadas tingas were excellent. Tortilla soup was flavorful with the right amount of spice

Great local place, with good prices, a fun atmosphere and deliciously fresh food. Whether it's the exposed brick wall, the adventurous tin cups, or the playful piñatas, this place is great for fans of fun dates. read more

Los Cilantros is my FAVORITE restaurant in all of Berkeley! Some may think it is a little pricy but it is absolutely worth it. They have amazing food and the staff is very friendly. I have been there no less than a dozen times in the six months I have lived in Berkeley. The carnitas are incredible; simple yet delectable. The quesadillas with potatoes and Oaxaca cheese are out of this world. The chilaquiles are the best I've ever had and even better with carnitas on top! They also have great desserts, the flan is awesome. I have had most items on the menu at least once and have never been disappointed. I highly recommend Los Cilantros! read more

The food that we had tasted good but I thought the portions could have been better for the price. Also, forget getting free chips and salsa at the table (like every other Mexican restaurant). And if you want just a little extra salsa verde with your tostada or tamales, get ready to pay up. Even though this is a sit down restaurant, there are no free condiments made available to customers. When you can go to Cancun El Sabor Mexicano and get unlimited helpings of 20 different fresh salsas, it makes it difficult for me to justify coming back to Los Cilantros. read more

Way too expensive for tiny portions that were too salty and didn't taste that good. I know, pretend gourmet, but it's hard to want to go back when there are better and cheaper restaurants with similar food. Tiny mole enchiladas and what looked like bean soup because it was liquid and so little of it. Meanwhile, we were interrupted six times by three people nervously asking if everything was okay. It wasn't, but we were trying to visit and didn't want deal with it. You know they are pretending to be gourmet when water is given in a jar. How did this start? read more

This place is a favorite of ours. The food is always fresh and consistent, and it tastes like it has Mama's love baked in it! There's a gorgeous mural inside, for the record. The staff calls us family, and it tickles me every time. I love this place!! read more

A really nice experience. It's not a Tex-Mex sort of place, but more authentic Mexican, in a Mexican cultural center. We both had enchiladas, one order made with mole, the other verde, and we both thoroughly enjoyed them. Desserts were good although not transcendent - a nice flan and a fried plantain dish (the latter wasn't as sweet as I would have expected but was interesting). Our waitress was very charming and friendly: when we ordered, I had asked what a tlacoyito was, but decided to get the enchiladas, but she brought us a sample tlacoyito on her own initiative to assuage our curiosity. It was delicious. read more

Mole tacos soo good...delicious tortillas but WHY IS IT SO EXPENSIVE makes me sad because i would totally eat here more if it weren't for the inflated prices read more

Very nice little restaurant in the space adjacent to/part of La Pena. I read about it and have been wanting to try it out for a while. Unfortunately on the day we went, they seemed a bit short-staffed. Service was slow but friendly. Food is quite good. Very high quality. We had the carnitas, tostatitas, and mole enchilada. Carnitas was great, as are the handmade tortillas...but still not quite as good as the ones my wife makes. They are blue corn, very cool. We also had the flan, which was amazing. Coconutty and with delicious strawberries. It was quite pricey tho, and the portions aren't huge. But the food is very high-quality and feels very authentic and homemade. I have a feeling this place is still a bit of a work-in-progress. Definitely worth checking out, but beware it'll probably be a $20 meal. read more

Really, this is a rating of 3.5. 3 and 4 for food, respectively, and 2 and 4 for pricing, depending on the item. Very good chile relleno but TOO EXPENSIVE at 12/TWELVE dollars, and the menu says peppers, plural, and it's only ONE chile relleno. Around the corner, on Telegraph, there are three, Mexican restaurants whose chile rellenos are very good, as well, and 3-4 dollars cheaper. My husband had some yummy chicken burrito (?)/chicken dish. Tlacoyitos are flavorless but prettily-presented. Lower your chile relleno to 9 bucks, which is plenty for 1 chile relleno or include 2 chile rellenos for 12 dollars, and I'll be back, and I will change my rating. And a little more generosity on the sauces. read more

Food was OK but overpriced. Service was awful. Servers running around with no idea who ordered what. Never gave us a menu or gave us the water we asked for. Im generally easy-going with this kind of thing, but the service here was absurdly incompetent. read more

Really good Mexican cuisine in a nice space. The menu is extensive; try the mole enchiladas or the Tlacoyitos. Everything is fresh. Last time I was there, drummers were practicing in the adjacent space, which is La Peña cultural center. read more

Finally, a tasty, inviting, and reasonably priced Mexican restaurant in Berekeley. When we moved here from SF about four years ago one of the biggest hurts was the horrible lack of good Mexican food in South Berkeley - the burrito place down the street (hoping that never naming it again will make it go away) is just bad and there really aren't any other choices...until now! It's fresh, presented nicely, and the staff were all great. Plus, you get the added benefit of the live entertainment in the bar next door in La Pena...we're going back every week!! read more

I would give this 3.8 stars. We went there 2 weeks ago based on YELP reviews. I really liked the food as did everyone else I went to dinner with. I ordered the potato enchiladas with the mole sauce and my husband ordered the sopes. My sister ordered the chille rellleno. I really loved their mole sauce. The prices are a tad expensive . I did not like how the main courses don't come with rice nor do they offer chips and salsa. This is the first Mexican restaurant I have been to that does this. Maybe it's a upscale Berkeley thing. read more

Love this place and wish I saw more people in it. Carnitas and enchiladas are delicious. Chile relleno also excellent.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Good quality cooking with ingredients that shout out flavor, taste and quality as well. "Healthy" Mexican food with the right portions. The nopale tostadas were outstanding as well as the chicken tostadas. The chips and guacamole were some of the best I've had in recent years. The habanero salsa had the right amount of heat and complexity. Come, sit, enjoy the food and the courtesy of the staff. My family and I will make a special trek out here from the city for the food when we visit my family in the east bay. read more

Ambiance is very cute! But besides that, everything else falls short. You pay ~15 bucks for like literally a cup of food. It's ridiculous and not worth it! Especially since the food itself is just good and nothing special. The service was annoying. She kept pushing her dessert menu on us even after we said we weren't interested. Additionally, she kept hovering and asking to take our plates even after we said we hadn't finished. I mean it would not have been bad had she asked at most twice but she asked the same thing of us over 4 times. (Let me enjoy my food and company please!) By then we got uncomfortable and just left. If being honest, would not recommend. But if you want to just spend an inflated amount of money on a cute little restaurant, by all means, it's your choice! read more

This was quite possibly the best mexican restaurant I have ever been to. Everything I ate, from the barbacoa to the tortillas, had a distinctly homemade taste and quality that blew my face off. The carnitas - the test of every mexican restaurant - was life affirming. Better than anything I ever had in my years living in the Mission. read more

Guava agua fresca was to die for! So happy about this addition to the neighborhood. The little patio in front is lovely for brunch. Good vegetarian options. They were out of the veggie Tlacoyitos, but will definitely try them next time. We tried the chilaquiles verdes and the huevos divorciados and would recommend both. read more

My new favourite Mexican restaurant in the Bay Area! Friendly people and a nice interior deco make this place very welcoming. We tried: Alambre, Tlacoyitos and Tostadas... recipes are so delicious and different from the usual Mex menu!! We had their spicy (!) Mexican beer and Negra Modelo (soft and mild). As for desserts... Flan de coco (yes yes!) and platanitos (yes!). We'll be back soon to try new recipes and tastes. read more

The enchilada Verdi was stellar. was not that crazy about the mushroom soup but , if one takes the mushrooms and put them in a tortilla with the cabbage salad it is good. i liked the green salad better than the cabbage salad. i liked the enchilada verdi better than the taco mole. I like the mole at La Mission in Berkeley better, but i like Los Cilantros enchilada verde better. there was something like a tacolito, not right some funny spelling i do not recall and it was these round that very exciting like maybe corn bun,, not sure, not that great read more

My last stop before I headed back home to SoCal. It was nice coming here and I appreciated that they support local artists by displaying their artwork on the wall. Great food and vibes all around. Staff was super welcoming and they were up-to-date w/ their payment process which made it convenient for people like me who are always in a rush. read more

So glad we found this place. It's absolutely delicious! You can tell the ingredients are fresh. Service was great too. We will be back!

Amazingly good food, but 20-30% more expensive than I'm comfortable paying (or would typically pay anywhere else) for the same plates. Perhaps for a special occasion! read more

Pretty bummed by our experience. To be (somewhat) fair the waitress seemed to be new or just really confused. The completely empty restaurant should have been our first sign but we still gave it a go. Starting from being told we couldn't sit on the patio, to every drink I ordered being "out" including only 2 of the 5 wines listed and corona (um what??) to the seemingly store bought, way overly salted chips - our experience really failed to deliver the 4 stars supposedly represented on Yelp. After 2 beers and crappy chips and salsa, we booked it out of there. I really hate to write bad reviews but this one just needed to happen. read more

Good, not great. Just sort of odd. Strange layout. Food just okay. Would not recommend.

Don't miss the chilaquiles with carne asada. Congratulations to Dilsa and her team- Los Cilantros is outstanding! I can't wait until they're open for dinner. read more

Awesome food. Fresh and authentic. The owner is very hands on and gives great service

The tlacoyitos were mind blowing. Never had tlacoyos before but can't imagine a better lunch dish.

Super cool looking on the inside of this Mexican restaurant. Great tortilla soup and great tacos too. The agua de sandia is delicioso! Definitely check it out when in Berkely. read more
