I come here for groceries pretty often and their chicharron is great. The tacos are fresh and I typically get their steak and tongue tacos since the al pastor is alright compared to the steak. Variety of toppings and salsa which is appreciated. Would recommend to try them out. read more

Very friendly atmosphere from the moment I entered. The little dining area is off to the side of the front door. I ordered 3 steak tacos, and at $2.50/each they were a bargain. The coke from the primary grocery business ran a little over $2.00. So, in short, a modest amount was spent for a very cheery meal. I'll be back! read more

RACIST, ANTI-ASIAN TAQUERIA! I almost never write negative reviews, but this needed to be said. I had been coming to Los Amigos (what a misnomer) for their quality meats and tacos/burritos for a total of more than two years. I have been a loyal, paying-and-tipping customer because in the past I liked the service, and the selection of merchandise and produce items in-stock in their down-to-earth, no-nonsense mercado and carniceria. Prior to these past few months, I have been treated respectfully. However, during these times of the pandemic, in my previous three consecutive visits, I have been verbally mocked by the three women who run the taqueria stand inside the store each time I have communicated my order in English-Spanish. Apparently though, my communication must have been sufficient enough because each time my order was completed correctly. I am 47 years old and Filipino-American, and I immigrated to and lived in California virtually my entire life since I was 6 years old. If it matters, Filipino culture is heavily influenced by nearly 400 years of Spanish colonial rule, and California has a vibrant Hispanic culture which I am very fond of. Nonetheless, in my previous three visits to Los Amigos in Athens, GA, those three ladies mocked me by repeating my order in a manner that sounded like gibberish coming from an "inscrutable," unintelligible person. They did this to no one else but me, noticeably the only Asian person around during the times I made a visit. There were no ensuing laughs, or a "just kidding" which followed the mockery. They wore facial expressions that were either neutral or disapproving and carried on in silence from that point. I am well-educated with three college degrees: one bachelor's in science, and a bachelor's degree and master's degree in the arts, now working on my doctorate. I have also worked as a full-time university professor for two years. I am very respectful and appreciative of world cultures and traditions. I am not ignorant. I find this customer treatment rather appalling and disappointing since Los Amigos has been my favorite taco/burrito place in the Athens area for virtually the entire time I have lived here. Whereas my love of Mexican food/culture/people has not diminished, certainly I am inspired to search for a new "favorite" place. Although the lengua and al pastor are great here, if you're Asian, you might get an unsavory taste of racism, and the burrito you order might be more costly to you than the $8.10 you pay for. I ordered the tacos al pastor. They were ok. It was the seasoning that threw me off but I know, everyone has a their own secret recipes. Self serve condiments included several salsas, cilantro, onions, and more. The horchatas and jamaicas were very sweet, but hit the spot if sipped and savored slowly. Los Amigos is a store with a butcher shop and eatery with a few tables. I bought some chicarron, fried pork skins, on the way out. The kids loved the assortment of Kinder eggs and Takis. The store is tucked away in an area with other businesses like car repair shops and used car lots. The GPS in the car took us the wrong way, getting us onto the freeway that's right behind the store. read more

In their meat case they even offer seasoned quail for you to throw on the grill!They have peeled ready to eat shrimp, and a variety of quesos.They have a delicious homemade cheese that is a bit like ricotta they call it "requeson" not not regaton- i don't think so! Ok , so the best part- they have a taqueria. Authentic hole in the hole style. They fill up homemade corn tortillas with lots of your choice meats: asada, barbacoa, carnitas, buche, tripitas, (lookem up bro) I am not sure which tacos are 1.50 but I ordered delicious stuff and I think tacos were a little under 2$ each. You can preorder homemade corn tortillas $3.50 a lb . Best secret tacos in town! The lengua is tender and delicious, the al pastor is sweet and spicy. Pupusas are great but I've never been able to figure out when they are available. Don't think about taking a date, this is a grocery store with a counter to one side but for grabbing a quick and super cheap taco its worth the trip to an area you may never usually frequent. Grab a Toronja or Squirt soda (mmm, grapefruit) to wash down your spicy tacos and maybe a Gansitos for dessert. If you can't handle spice watch out for the sauces, they are pretty strong. read more

$1.50 tacos everyday, great with a $1 drink or paleta. Very good selection and quality of condiments, I would also recommend trying the free cebollitas. Best time to go is at lunch or early afternoon as the food is fresher. Go for lunch. You will not regret it! Order a barbacoa, al pastor, and/or carnitas taco and help yourself to the condiments & sauces on the side. I recommend the tomatillo!! Snag a drink from the refrigerator case, and pay on your way out. Cash seems welcome. Lots of cool Mexican snacks & candies...
