If I could give Loretta 10 stars I would. She has been doing my alterations for over 20 years. Loretta has been very professional and to the point every single time I've done business with her. Some people think because she's a sister that "WE" should be able to get something for nothing and/or "WE" have a right to treat her a certain way because she's one of "US." That is very ignorant and inconsiderate. You wouldn't act that way in someone else's business of another persuasion, so treat Loretta with the same respect. We are not friends this is about business. I wouldn't take my suits anywhere else. She is a good hearted woman and I will continue to support her until she retires. read more

I dropped 3 items off on 4/9 to be altered (paid in advance). She told me that my alterations would be completed on 04/18/ -- I told her I would pick up on 4/19. I came to get the items on 4/23 (4 days after the agreed upon date) and they were not ready. She did not call or text to say the items were not ready. When I told her that she could have called to let me know they were not ready (Items were needed for a trip) her response was "I could have but I didn't". She called on 04/24 to let me know the items were now ready, and, told me that "people have things to come up, she is human". I let her know that I did understand, but she still could have called, that's what professionals do. She then told me she no longer wanted my business, and I told her she wasn't going to get any more-- When I picked my items up it looked like a toddler had altered them. threads were everywhere and I will now have to take it somewhere else to get it repaired after spending $75 at her location. I am going to file a complaint with the BBB as well-- I wouldn't trust her with my alterations, and she's extremely rude! read more

Loretta did an awesome job on my daughters dress it needed little alteration and to be bussled. When that was compleated it looked just like when we first took it out of the bag. She also help us create a beautiful jacket from our hand sketched design she was very willing to work through many steps and make sure it was our vision. Loretta almost ruined my wedding! The hemline on my wedding dress varied at least an inch across the front, the sides were uneven, and a $300 belt was cut and had to be replaced! She was extremely rude and tried to convince me I was not seeing things correctly. I spent $600 to repair her work. While in Birmingham, we needed a formal gown altered. Our hotel's concierge suggested Loretta's Alterations and Sewing Shop which was located just one block from the hotel. When we called the shop we did not receive an answer and we did not leave a message. However, our telephone call was returned in less than 20 minutes by Ms. Loretta herself. Although she was out of the shop that morning to attend a funeral, she agreed to come into the shop to handle the alteration. She promised that she would meet us at the shop within 30 minutes after speaking to us. She arrived promptly and finished the dress in a very short time period. Her shop was clean with a comfortable waiting area. We believe that the price she charged for the alteration was fair market value. We shared with her that we were attending a formal gala that night and really needed the service so she could have taken advantage of us by overcharging, but she did not.
