Chau's came highly recommended to us for alterations. My daughter had a sequin dress that needed to be altered for a formal. We stopped in a little bit after the store was closed, but she was gracious enough to let us come in and get the dress fitted to size. Chau called me the day before the said due date to let us know that the dress was ready to be picked up and she was so sweet and East to work with. She gave us great advice on what to look for since prom season is coming up and most dresses will need some bit of alterations. I am glad that we found someone experienced and trustworthy! read more

My experience with this business was terrible. If I could give zero stars I would. Drop-off: From the moment I walked in, who I believed was Mrs. Chau, was helping another customer with a very upbeat personality and they had pleasant conversation. I thought I would have been extended the same grace.... Not a chance. She walked up to me with a very stern demeanor and rude attitude. I was nothing but nice and pleasant to everyone in the room from the moment I walked in. I desperately needed to get a button sewed unto my thick coat, so I left went ahead and left it with them to fix. She told me it would be 4 days to sew on the button... I reluctantly agreed and left the business feeling uneasy. Pick-up: I entered the building upbeat and I spoke to her 3 times. I said, "Hi! Hello! How are you today?" Mrs. Chau did not utter one word to me. She held her hand out for my receipt and grabbed my coat. When I looked at the coat, the back button was not added and it was off-centered, and she told me I could leave it with her and pick it up next week... NEXT WEEK???? To correct a button???? If you did a bad job, it is your responsibility to make sure the customer leaves your business happy, but she did not care about my happiness because she does not care for the color of my skin. SHAME! I WILL NEVER PATRONIZE THIS BUSINESS EVER AGAIN! I am not quick to call out racism, but it was very clear in my encounter with the lady. She was pleasant to every single white person and as soon as I walked in it was like I was nothing to her. I regret even giving her my $5, which she didn't deserve because her work, attitude and soul were all terrible. If you are BLACK DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS BUSINESS!!! Genuinely cannot believe the experience I just had. I went to Chau's with my wedding dress (I'm getting married in 2 months) the only thing that needed to be altered was the cup size of the dress. Everything else fit perfectly it's just the chest padding was a little to small so I needed it removed and replaced with a size up. As soon as I walked into her store my mom explained the situation. Immediately, she (I assume Chau?) turned to me and started asking me if I was planning to lose weight for the wedding. I was confused as to why this came up because the only thing needed fixed was the padding replaced nothing needed to be let out. I awkwardly said no and she looked shocked and said "so, you're just gonna stay the same? Really? Not gonna loose ANY weight?" I again told her no, I'm going to stay the same. She very obviously made a point to look at my body and seemed shocked or maybe even disgusted that I wouldn't try to lose weight. My mom immediately told her we were done and we were leaving. It was very upsetting and I wouldn't want that treatment for anyone else. Disappointing. read more

I went to get measured for a bridesmaid dress. I was told to find a picture of the dress I was to be measured for. As I was trying to pull up the dress, I was then told I am sorry I got in trouble for measuring someone before and I am not good at doing measurements. Now this is supposed to be a professional place for alterations so measurements are involved. Do you really think I am that stupid? Just be honest of your real reason for not wanting to measure me. Rude! I called to see if she could take the length up on my chef pants and see if I could get it done same day at first she said yes if I came right away but then asked if I had been there before when I said no she said she couldn't do it that she was too busy and hung up on me! I attend Culinard and could have brought her not only my business but all my classmates business as well. Now I'll make it a point to make sure no one I know will go to her. Ahhhh..where do I start. I was in communication with this business regarding alterations on my wedding dress. I made an appointment and when I showed up, the owner was quite rude. I told her I had an appointment regarding my dress. She told me to put it on. Then she looked at the dress and proceeded to tell me that the dress was beautiful, the alterations could be done, but she couldn't do it. Really? She goes on to tell me about her bad back and that I could talk to her Dr if I wanted to. I asked why didn't someone mention that during all of the phone calls prior to me coming in. She then gave me a number to another shop down the street. When I called them and explained what happened the owner flat out said "NO...she does this all the time..when she doesn't want to work, she says she is sick and send them to me...so NO". Terrible service and work. All I needed was a simple slimming and tapering on three jeans, but I received rude service and poor quality work. Chau did not listen to what I asked for and actually refused to do the basic work I asked for which was a basic tapering from the knee down(but she charged me anyways). She did not taper the pants at all and actually left a hole on the stitch because she did not sew up the entire leg. The stitching began to heavily fray before I even left the shop. My brother also got a shirt altered here recently and the stitching is absolutely falling apart. I will not ever be going back and will turn everyone away that is interested in going here. read more

We love Chaus! Over the years, had every dress for my 3 daughters: formals, bridesmaids and 2 wedding dresses altered beautifully. She had to basically rebuild a couple of gowns. The irreplaceable thing about her work is that she keeps up with fashion, so she knows how this or that cut of pant leg should be hemmed, and what style of dress should be hemmed short and what should be worn longer.
