My whole family were invited to a wedding at Lord Thompson Manor on New Year's Eve. What a blast! Upon arrival Lord Thompson Manor is a beautiful mansion with awesome grounds nicely decorated for the holidays inside and out. The wedding ceremony was here and after we toasted the bride and groom. The staff made sure all the guests had champagne for the toasting. For cocktail hour many hors d'oeuvres were passed around plus several tables of food you would expect at a high end catering venue. We enjoyed everything from steak to vegetables to many to name. The service was excellent. There were many staff walking around to either pass out hors d'oeuvres or clean up after us. I've never seen so many staff at a wedding venue doing this. This was over the top. For diner there were several rooms with 3 or 4 table each. We even had personalized menus with our names on them at our table. Never seen this. What a nice touch. For dinner we started with a nice salad with lettuce, nuts, and cheese. The only choice for the main course was Filet Mignon. I enjoyed it but not everyone likes meat. There were no other option. That was strange, not sure why they did that. Before dessert we were back on the dance floor. DJ was great. The were 2 bars and the bartenders were on top of their game all night. For me since it was New Year's Eve I drank Champagne all night. Luckily we had a shuttle to us back to the hotel we were staying at. No driving for me. Dessert of course was wedding cake and a bunch of other fine delicious items, ice cream, brie with pecans in a sweet sauce, and others. At this point I stopped looking because I was stuffed. We toasted at midnight with more champagne. Then came the after party. I can't say enough for Lord Thompson Manor, the decor was beautiful, staff were amazing, efficient, polite and there were many staff personnel to assist. We all had a great time. read more

Andrew & Jackie (owners) are the most passionate planners, visionaries, creative beings & all around truly amazing & remarkable people. They have the most patience, care, support & are always there to calm you down or talk things out with you. They take your vision, your wedding experience, & the biggest day of your life so seriously that you know everything is going to be perfect. Jackie and Ted, who were there supporting us every step along the way onsite, were truly spectacular, as well. Ted, made every moment so homey with his beautiful voice, serenading us & making us feel like the most special people in the world, not only to us but our families & guests. Janice has such a huge heart & made sure us girls were all taken care of above & beyond at the Cottage House. Janice was by my side the entire weekend & we bonded so quickly as if we'd known each other forever. Janice read us the most beautiful love poem before I walked down the aisle, our hearts exploded & it was a moment none of us will ever forget. Chef Mike has been the chef at LTM for 20+ years & he is incredible at his job. The way LTM does their dinner style's so different (& DELICIOUS), every wedding should do this. Cocktail hour was overflowing-there were SO many options & he takes special diets/allergies so seriously, too. LTM is so unique & different in every way & sets you a part from all other weddings. We cannot wait to go back & visit one of our favorite places in the world. Our journey from start to finish was perfection & we cannot say ENOUGH amazing things about LTM. When you show up on site, you can hand over the reigns & ENJOY because they are there for you NO MATTER WHAT. My husband and I recently got married at Lord Thompson Manor this past May and have nothing but great things to say about this venue!!! From the decor to the food and all of the small details, the staff who work at the venue are completely dedicated to their couples and will do everything they can to make sure your day is perfect!!! After postponing our wedding due to covid we couldn't have asked for a better night. All of our friends and family had a great time and spoke so highly of our wedding. We actually had to switch our ceremony from outside to inside last minute due to weather and everything was executed so flawlessly!! As someone who isn't the most organized, it was so nice to know there was a full staff working with us from start to finish and looking at all of the small details. The grounds of the manor are beautiful and include a gazebo, fire pit, and numerous lawn chairs and day beds to utilize after the ceremony!! The food at our wedding was phenomenal thanks to chef mike, many of our guests stated they had filled up on appetizers during the cocktail hour and were full by the time their meals arrived. I attended a wedding at Lord Thompson Manor last month and I can honestly say it was the best wedding I've ever been to (other than my own, of course). I took the turn onto a dirt road that said "Lord Thompson Manor" and after driving on the narrow road for a while, started to think I had taken a wrong turn - or worse, was in the movie "Wrong Turn." Suddenly the treeline opened up to a majestic mansion. There are many aspects of the place that made the wedding so enjoyable so I'll try to stick to the points that are tied specifically to the manor rather than the obviously large budget of the wedding. The ceremony was in the side lawn which was lined with trees and shrubs and had an elegant gazebo structure for the officiant. It didn't look like a huge wedding area but shockingly accommodated 100 or so people with ease. The grounds of the manor included a patio area complete with chiminea and another part of the grounds had a well tended fire pit with plenty of seating. The reception itself was not a vast hall of tables but rather a series of dining rooms with about 4 tables per room. It was a very intimate setting and all rooms were within earshot of the conservatory where music played and announcements were made. The food was plentiful and delicious. There was a huge selection - from sliders and mac & cheese to the main course meal of beef tenderloin. It is the only time I've had sorbet served to me in a rose. If you're planning a wedding, definitely give this place strong consideration because your guests will inevitably come home and write a review about how amazing the wedding was. If you're going to a wedding at Lord Thompson and are trying to decide whether or not to stay at the hotel portion: I heard good thugs about the rooms and there is a free shuttle to get around the grounds. Holy smokes. I just got back from a wedding here; it was amazing. I was one of the groomsmen in the wedding and was astounded by how nice the place was. There is at least 10 acres of grass to play lawn games and the like. An awesome firepit and tons of seating. This wedding had 170+ guests there and they were all accommodated quite easily. The fun/weird part of the wedding, all of the employees knew my name, haha. I guess the bride must have given them the scoop on who was who and they studied it beforehand. A lot of the family stayed at the manor, but others stayed at "the cottages" down the street. The cottages were absolutely gorgeous as well. The rest of us stayed at a hotel in Auburn, MA, which is about ~20-25 minutes away. Not a bad drive, but thank god they had shuttles for us hooligans. read more

My husband and I were married at the Lord Thompson Manor in August 2016, and since then, not a day goes by that we don't talk about how amazing our wedding weekend was. It was truly the most unforgettable weekend of our lives. We cannot give enough credit and praise to the entire LTM staff for executing everything so flawlessly. In all honestly, there was not a single detail that was overlooked. This does not just refer to the wedding day - the attention to detail spanned from our early arrival on Thursday night to the rehearsal dinner on Friday evening all the way through to the send-off brunch on Sunday morning. Absolute perfection! That being said, we have to give a very special thanks to Kate, Chef Mike, Jackie, Andrew, and ESPECIALLY, Danielle & Ted! All members of the staff worked tirelessly with my husband and I to create the perfect menus, drinks, décor, and set the mood that truly makes weddings feel "magical." Our guests are still raving about how our wedding was the best they've ever been to - from the food to the final send off! All in all, the thing that puts the Lord Thompson Manor in a league of its own in regard to wedding venues is the fact that they truly listen and care about what you want as a couple. Honestly, by the end of our amazing weekend, we felt like members of the LTM staff were like family - that is how special they made us feel. Wow...just wow! The most beautiful wedding venue I've ever been to. The staff was mostly attentive, although some were better than others. The food was delicious and the drinks kept coming. We stayed at the cottage house and the rooms were gorgeous. All white and super clean. The spa was the only thing that was lacking. The girls tried their best, but fell short. We were married at LTM because it was such a stunning location. Unfortunately, the closer we came to the day, the more condescending and obstructionist Andrew became. Charges popped up out of nowhere, and he was terrible to deal with. Again, this was once it was to late for us to back out. The people that run LTM were far and away the worst part of my wedding day. Maybe not such a problem if you have a wedding planner to absorb the nastiness, but we didn't... Didn't think we needed one based on initial interactions. If there were more stars, I'd give them all. This place is the ultimate in luxury. If you are looking to have the best wedding or event possible look no further. The Lord Thompson Manor is a private mansion in rural Northeast Connecticut. It is located on several acres of land surrounded by woods. It is about an hours drive from Boston. My wife and I got married here in 2008, and have been back twice to attend the annual New Year's Eve Gala. We came to the Wedding Tasting event in January to check the place out and immediately knew it was the right place. For me, the food was the #1 priority. (If you've read any of my reviews you'll know this already.) This place has won a James Beard Award! All the dishes were delicious. They let you choose TWO mains for every plate. We chose the Miso glazed salmon and coconut chicken with grilled pineapple and coconut risotto. There was also an assortment of passed apps and buffet apps. My favorite was the Kielbasa Wellingtons. My wifes favorite was Mushrooms stuffed with maple sausage. For a wow factor add-on, we opted for the pink grapefruit sorbet served in a real live rose. Planning couldn't be any easier. They gave us several choices and we got what we liked. We decided to use Something Sweet By Michelle for the cake. We tried several of her cakes at the tasting event and knew it was just what we wanted. Also, the Shaded Soul Band was at the event, and we had so much fun dancing to their music, we decided to go with the live band instead of a DJ. They sent us emails and called us to go over all the details. Andrew and Jackie could not have been more patient and helpful in making all the decisions: flowers, decor, open bar, champagne, wines, food, name cards, menus, seating arrangements, etc. Every detail was planned out to perfection. We even came back to meet with Mike, the head chef, to have a second round of tastings, just to make sure we knew exactly what we wanted. When it came time for the wedding, it couldn't have been planned any better. First off, there are six bedrooms in the mansion, so you stay overnight for the whole weekend with ten of your best friends and family members. The host Ted is there 24 hours a day to anticipate everything you need and satisfy all requests. In addition, their Cottage House right down the road has six more rooms for guests and family. Breakfast is served Saturday and Sunday. On Friday, the bridal party had a spa morning at the Cottage House for manicures and massages. On Saturday, a hair stylist was available on short notice when the bride's stylist called out sick at the last minute. On Friday night, we had the rehearsal dinner. We chose a tropical BBQ theme, complete with souvenir leis and excellent smoked brisket and pulled pork. They have a real smoker right out back, they even threw on a salmon filet for the non meat eaters. Wedding day came and everything went so smoothly, it was effortless. A shuttle van is available to bring guests to the manor and back to their hotel for the entire night. We chose to have the ceremony in the mansion. The reception immediately followed and we partied the rest of the night. The band was amazing and the food was top notch. After the reception, the manor stays open for the after party. More food is served and the bar stays open until 2 AM. Our guests could not have been any happier. We continue to get compliments whenever people reminisce about our wedding. Just in case you're worried that you don't get to enjoy your wedding like all the guests, guess what? You can do it all over again at the New Year's Eve Gala! They invite all their former clients back and you get to have the same experience, only this time you get to be a party guest like everyone else. They pull out all the stops and offer the same high end service. I recommend the Lord Thompson Manor to all people that value attention to detail, fine dining, and exceptional service. The best part, for everything including the guest rooms, rehearsal dinner, and after party, we spent less than we would have for a stereotypical hotel ballroom wedding. read more

This place is a beautiful place to host an enchanted and whimsical wedding. We can only say wonderful things about the Manor and it's staff. My family was thrilled and overjoyed to have a wedding here. My one complaint or expectation that was not reached was the quality of the hair and makeup work from the spa. Flat, frizzed to politely put it. Expectations not reached and we were all not asking for much. The spa technician was rude and would at times talk under her breathe because the bride brought her own hair stylist in ( she was AMAZING). Not cute memories in the cottage house the morning of her wedding. I feel bad. If they could adjust their hair and makeup artists, I would say they could conquer the world with this wedding venue. read more

Our daughter's wedding was this weekend at the Lord Thompson Manor. I thought it would be a very nice wedding but it was way more than that. It was by far the best experence I have ever had. From the moment you book your day to the day itself everything is orchestrated to the last detail by an experenced staff. The ease in which they move you through your day is so relaxing, no stress at all. The property is amazing. The buildings picture-perfect. The interiors are right out of a magazine. The food and level of service was beyond belief. The only disappointment we had was that after the most wonderful weekend ever, we had to leave. Ahhh.... The Lord Thompson Manor.... Where do I begin? To say that the Manor is beautiful is an understatement. To say that the service was fantastic is an understatement. To say that the food was wonderful is an understatement. Get the feeling that there is a certain pattern going on here? Let me back up a bit... My son and his beautiful new bride were married at Lord Thompson Manor in November of 2011, and, obviously, I can't say enough nice things about the place! Everything was perfect. (Even the weather was perfect... Did they arrange that, too? lol) Since it is an old mansion made into a wedding venue, there are several very rooms connected by large doorways for the reception, instead of one big room, like most of the "cookie cutter" reception halls. It seemed to make it more intimate, somehow. The food was out of this world! The hors d'oeuvres were fantastic, and a meal in themselves, and then came the real dinner!! Besides being delicious, the presentation was outstanding!! I mean, really.... how many times do you get sorbet served in a live rose? My husband and I stayed the weekend at the manor, along with the groomsmen and the groom, while the bride and the bridesmaids and the bride's family stayed at the Cottage House, the Manor's "sister property". The Cottage House has a complete spa, also. The rooms were all beautifully decorated, with fireplaces in the bedrooms, which made it ever so cozy on a cold November night! The waitstaff were wonderful. They were friendly, and so helpful!. Anytime I needed something, they were instantly just "there"! My son called them the "ninja" staff! If he had a plate or wrapper that he needed to get rid of, "poof" there they were, to whisk it away! I still haven't figured out how Ted manages to be in so many places at once! I think it's the attention to detail that really sets it apart from the other places. The wedding planner, Jackie, saw to it that everything ran incredibly smoothly! We were trying to think of ANYTHING that could have been done better, and the only thing that I came up with was if we didn't have to go home after the weekend was over! My husband Wes and I got married in March of 2018 and could not have asked for a more perfect wedding venue than Lord Thompson Manor. We knew from the minute we saw the pictures and read the reviews, it would be the place where we would have our wedding. We went down to meet Andrew and Jackie that following weekend and completely fell in love with LTM even more than before. They checked in with us on a regular basis to see if we needed any help picking vendors or coordinating any details for our special day. They suggested the perfect church (Westfield Congregational Church), photographer (Alicia Ann Photography) and DJ (Local Motion Entertainment). We are total foodies and the tasting blew us out of the water. Normally wedding food is mediocre at best, but LTM reminded us of being at a five star restaurant! We also loved the fact that we could pick out what types of wine and alcohol would be served. Jackie worked with us to pick out perfect decorations and color schemes. The flowers she picked out were even more beautiful than I could have imagined. Our french bulldog Lola is a huge part of our lives and was able to join us for our wedding weekend which made it extra special. Jackie even made her a special flower necklace. The wedding weekend experience of being there from the rehearsal dinner, wedding and through to brunch the next day made it feel less like being at a wedding venue and more like being at a vacation home. If you are looking for the perfect place to have your wedding, look no further, LTM should be your venue. We had our wedding here in April 2011 and I have to say this place is hands down top notch. It was something out of an old movie and we knew this was the place we wanted to hold our wedding. This was the only place in CT we looked at because we knew no other place fit our personalities. We are both "old souls" and wanted a place that would put us at ease. The food was exceptional (James Beard Foundation Award Winning) and the staff is always on point with professionalism and help. I have to say after spending what seems our life fortune on our wedding, I do not have buyers remorse. This was hands down the best thing we would have ever done for our friends and family to celebrate such a huge milestone in our new lives together. This place sells its self, and you will figure that out once you see the property and meet the owners Jackie and Andrew. Their passion and professionalism makes this place what it is. I am so grateful to have stumbled upon their website. Jackie and Ted go above and beyond. Jackie did my flowers and decor, she made a little girls dream come true. My mother whispered in Jackie's ear to tell her how much I love Toile, and voila! Jackie had a seamstress friend make our linens. Its custom touches like this that sets apart Lord Thompson Manor from any other wedding venue in the area. We had a wonderful wedding weekend here for my friends wedding. The staff was very attentive and fun to talk to. The food was excellent. The building was gorgeous. 1 star off only because there is only one stall for men and one stall for women in the building and for a large wedding the lines got long. Unbearably pricey but honestly, the events are quite above par. What is unfortunate is the owner herself. She us a little too plebeian, tries too hard to appear otherwise, is rude to staff in the presence of guests (embarrassing for everyone) and seems a bit edgy. Several locations within the New England area are as good but this certainly is a lovely location. read more
