Loopen is a great spot to hit up on a sunny day! It will get pretty busy though, so be patient while waiting in line (yes, you have to stand in a line!) Your basically on a small dock and the tables are as close as your going to get to the water without being in a boat. I think you can actually take your boat here if you want (I would call and check if they allow that though). Which, is pretty great! You can also get here easily by walking down the stairs towards the water on the south side of the bridge--same side of the road as the Hornstull T-banna stop.
When you get here, you'll immediately notice that there's an entertaining and cheap tropical theme, that includes fake palm trees and other rustic items everywhere. The whole place has this cool hole-in-the-wall informality about it. I think the little service window and the ATM "cash only" regulations have a little something to do with that. I have to wonder if they make a kick back from the ATM though. I guess they used to allow credit cards here and then stopped. That just sounds a little sleazy to me. I'll probably get some cash before hand next time. ;) Despite everything, I really liked the place for what it is. Yes, it's not a super amazing bar/restaurant and it's nothing really that special in the great scheme of things, but it does have it's positives! I think this place adds a lot to the neighborhood in the summer. Also, I had the cheeseburger and it was surprisingly pretty decent (albeit a little on the cheap side with the "american hamburger dressing" crap on it, but still good!) I wouldn't really try to come here with any great expectations, but your gonna enjoy yourself regardless while your here! Who can hate on a waterside beer in the sunshine? =) read more
