The feel of store was unmistakable and left a lasting impression on me. When I enter Baldwin's, I am transported back to that old bookstore of my youth. Walking through four levels of books, it's easy for one to feel as if they've been transported to a bygone era, in which reading was the entertainment option of choice for most and still viewed as the single best escape from a hard worn day. Just when you think they couldn't possibly cram any more books into this old barn, you turn a corner, find all new nooks and crannies, and find yourself drawn to collections from every era over the last century. There's something other-worldly about Baldwin's that is hard to describe, but it's very easy to lose yourself for hours. The title selections cover every topic under the sun, with many of the offerings being long out of print and only available on the secondary market. The prices are reasonable, but make no mistake, this is not a discount bookstore. This is an independent seller, with books that you're not going to necessarily find at your big chain options. The service is friendly, very much in the vein of a mom and pop/private business. They conveniently provide a map so you can find your way around, and trust me it is useful. The proprietor is more than happy to guide you in the right direction, or chat about your purchases, or answer any questions you might have. If you have a friend or family member, who is a book lover, this is a must see destination for them.

We chatted about favorite books and despite only being here for 11 months, I hope they become a dub-c staple. The owners are a couple, one who went to school for culinary and the other for poetry. Truly a story from a Hallmark movie! Supporting independent bookstores and small POC-owned businesses is a priority for me, and I'm happy to welcome this location to the area. Their book collection is small, but the owner seems to have read most of them or can still give pointers. Still a wide variety of genres for sale, from children's books to horror to Japanese poetry.

I walked out with a couple great books to add to my collection, and will be back soon to pick up some more! My favorite thing about this store is that they offer hard to find books for a great price. They have an extensive Pennsylvania section which includes biographies about many of of the small colleges dotting the southeast part of the state, and a large amount of genealogical books as well. I was strapped for time and didn't get a chance to explore the entire store, but the sections I perused left me with a great feeling about the place. The lady who helped me check out was extremely friendly as well. Have already recommended this store to a couple friends and family, and I will personally be making the trip back out as soon as next week. Highly recommend!

The owners of THIS store have been in the book business for a while. Both put in years at a large chain bookstore. They've used that experience to create a store people WANT to shop. The book clubs are awesome and have truly provided a strong sense of community and comfort. Staff picks are always great to see and knowing that the staff care about the store and read alongside you, is a cool fact! Which is what led me here. On the phone the customer service was great, once in person (and twice at that) not much at all. There doesn't seem to be much black authors and influences in this bookstore- aside from the very few that you can see displayed at the front window. The bookstore is organized well, but the space is very small- seems a lot was put into the space and as soon as a few people start coming in, it can and will immediately feel crowded. This specific small town and area is one I keep trying to force myself to love. It looks nice to the eyes, but the area falls short each and every time. I purchased two books from this store (one that needed to be ordered) hence why I was there twice. I didn't wanna do it, but I desperately wanted the book and enjoy my money going towards a local, small owned shop. Won't be happening again. I thought the second time would be a charm.
