Jane Edwards has been happy to work with me; rather than loading my hair down with products or insisting that I need to straighten it, she cuts it to emphasize the curls so it's easy to take care of. Everyone I've encountered there is friendly, they're efficient without making you feel rushed, and they take care in their work. I always leave with a smile on my face and a skip in my step to show off my nicely cut, bouncy hair.

I found A&H Beauty through a google search and took a risk mostly because they had photographs of their previous work online. Esther did my hair and she works quickly and is so good and cares about the quality of her work. Her salon is basic, but that's no big deal for braiding. She offers you hot and cold drinks and is so pleasant - I usually don't like to chat when getting my hair done but I was happy to chat to Esther. The main thing is the hair, three weeks on and the cornrows are still nice and neat and I've washed them every week. She asked me to drop the hair extensions round the day before my appointment to prep the hair and it was all ready and waiting so we could get going straight away on the day.

I left the salon with a 3 star impression, and the days following turned into a 2 star impression. My appointment was with Daniella, and I was asking to trim a few cm off my grown out long-bob and hidden undercut. Also had a short colour consultation (for which she snipped some hair to test and get back to me, but the salon never contacted me afterwards. I would have probably gone back for colour, but I didn't bother chasing them). The assistant who was washing my hair was nice, but novice. Too gentle, she didn't rinse thoroughly, and unfortunately left me in the chair alone 'conditioning' for almost 15 minutes before a colleague had to remind her I was still over there. The cut was a bit shorter then we discussed post-layering, but I was OK with that. The smooth blowdry obscured the layers, but post-wash my friends pointed out i had a distinct layer of hair around my whole head that was 2-3 cm shorter than the rest. The undercut, Daniella was honest about not having experience with it, but she gave it her best effort and it came out just fine. Did find myself wondering why my short hair was being blow dried for so long, multiple times after it was already dry. After a final smooth blowdry, there were no finishing products used or iron to match the inspiration images, but it was already late so i didn't push for anything more. While I appreciated the staff being generally cheery and effortful, the skill of the service from my overall experience could use some constructive improvement.

Then I had a baby, found a waxer very close to my flat and didn't return, despite always being very happy with No 74 Hair & Beauty. Life got in the way! And now its finally out of the way, my office is around the corner and we are back in love. I booked in for a few waxing services and was (thankfully) assigned to the lovely Sarah -- who is not only an extremely lovely human, but did a fantastic job getting me in tip top shape with very minimal discomfort (seriously!). The space is GORGEOUS. Clean, well curated and spread over 3 floors. It's beautifully appointed and painstakingly considered. It is a joy to walk through the door, and it gets better once you do! I've been going to Sibel for my hair for the past 18 months and have been extremely happy with the quality of her cuts and her coloring skills. She's now helping me transition from my dark brown color to my natural salt and pepper in a way that doesn't look too abrubt. I'm so pleased with the results! I'm about halfway there and should be fully natural in about six months. I highly recommend this team.

They took more off than we agreed because they said they couldn't just do a trim because she couldn't "sit properly in a chair" ( she had to sit on a kids booster). It's a wonky cut too, after all that!! It was traumatic and heartbreaking and 6 weeks later she is still very upset about what was supposed to be a pampering experience. To their credit manager did reply to my letter of complaint, but should have intervened at the time.
