Oh. My. God. First time visitor (and probably last). I do have to say I have not found a single good coffee shop in Canberra after moving here from Sydney couple of weeks ago, BUT this place is among the worst on coffee. I ordered a long black and received a cup of brown liquid with NO crema or even a hint of it whatsoever. Food's average. read more

First time here for breakfast with friends. Service: 5/5 (Such a friendly cashier) Food: 5/5 Presentation: 5/5 (Great colours, neatly-plated) What I ordered: Spanish Breakie - 2 Fried Eggs, Spinach, Well-done Onions, Cherry tomatoes, Chorizo, Potatoes + English Muffin First thought: The Chorizo is amazing! Other thoughts: I really enjoyed the spinach, tomatoes, & cooked onions as well. Light, fresh flavors of the veggies definitely counter-balanced the heavy chili aioli sauce (although I thought it was spicy mayo at first) well. My friends ordered the ricotta hotcakes and the eggs benny's and they looked really good too! read more
In amongst some outdoor shops on the edge of town is Lonsdale Roasters. Decked out in 'op shop' chic, there are a number of small tables crammed inside as well as a couple of large shared tables. They have a small menu with some fun things such as waffles with cinnamon butter and a 'Baby Elvis' pannini with peanut butter, nutella and banana. Of course, there's just plain old toast too. These guys are serious about their coffee. It's a full on roastery with beans sourced from around the world. Fun names such as 'Johnny Cash' and 'Brown Sugar' add to the eclectic vibe. I was so happy when this place opened up as it's very close to the hotel I stay at on the edge of the city (Civic). It's a bustling location full of lycra clad public servants out for an early cycle and coffee as well as a healthy smattering of bespectacled, skinny jeaned slackers. 'Hipsters' as the kids call them these days. A regular haunt for this interstate traveller after a decent caffeine hit before work (it opens at 6.30am on weekdays). read more

Spanish breakfast was disappointing. Too much aioli not enough veg and chorizo to go with very basic fried eggs. Closer to eggs benedict in mouth feel than spanish omelette. I don't like mayo and should've paid closer attention to the description. There are much better options for $19 on Lonsdale St. Coffee was competent but not memorable. read more

Oh Lonnys, your coffee is pretty good, which makes your skimpy servings all the more depressing. I ask for a flat white and I get an inch of foam and an inch of air from the top of the cup. Why am I bothering to purchase a large serving if I get a medium serving size at best? read more
Delicious hotcakes. So fluffy. Would have enjoyed more icecream, but the fried bananas were an excellent touch. Great little cafe atmosphere. Eat upstairs for that warehouse/loft conversion feel, decorated by an 18 year old. Takes me back. One tip. Replace long table seating with tables of 4 or less. No one goes for coffee in large groups. You should have seen the anxiety and apprehension in peoples faces once tables had 1-2 occupants. A couple of guys mentioned going somewhere else, instead of politely asking to joi a table. read more
Good spot for a breakfast. Chilled breakfast and a good coffee. Was so hungry didn't have a chance to take a pic of my food. Ordered the eggs benedict which was topped with bacon and a side of caramelised onions and tomato relish. The bread was perfect for the dish and allowed you to cut through and enjoy a mix of all ingredients. The staff were friendly and place had a good vibe with a funky layout. Store has its own coffee on sale on site too. Happy to recommend the place. read more

Amazing food, visited this place for brunch on a Sunday and had the corn fritters - we were blown away by how delicious this was. Strong coffee too was a huge thumbs up. Recommend sitting upstairs with nice window views of the trees. Great job guys!! read more
Okay, but nothing special. The real test of a coffee place is not the latte art, but how well they make an espresso, and this was a disappointment. The water seemed way too hot for the roast, and the crema was lacking - there was something overly watery about the whole espresso experience. Add in the hipster self-awareness, rather than simply being hipster, the mistakes with the orders (probably because the person either couldn't or didn't want to hear me) and it wasn't a great atmosphere. read more

The coffee is nice, but for me the intensely annoying pop music is a straight red card, never again. For maximum annoyance, this muzak is compulsory in every corner of the store, the staff whistle along to it, and they can't comprehend requests to turn it down. If you belong to the post-auditory generations that are started off with muzak in utero, you won't notice a thing, you'll love it. read more

Over the 90s there was a grunge thing going on - I feel like this might be the last bastion of it, or else enough time has passed for it to become retro and come into fashion again. Needless to say I felt at home. Almost missed the fact that it has two floors, but headed up with a couple of friends for a late morning brunch and was impressed by not only the service (friendly) but the speed! Holy crap these guys are fast. The chef must be on roller skates because we seemed to get our food almost 5 minutes after we sat down. Very impressive. I had the Kevin Bacon roll and it was good, also grabbed my partners avocado from her meal and it was good as well. I'm sure it didn't need it but gosh it was tasty. Lots of old gear around the place, nice stylings and definitely recommend it. Will be back. Coffee fans won't be disappointed - we ended up having a couple of cups it was that good. read more

I'm a fan of any place that serves Nutella and sourdough, so I'll keep coming back here for that (and also because my partner thinks they do the best eggs in Canberra). I absolutely love the atmosphere here! The reason I haven't given 5 stars is because their coffee grind isn't consistent. Most of the time my coffee is great, but I've been a few times where the coffee I've received has been overly bitter. I wouldn't mind waiting a few extra minutes for the grind to be fixed than to leave disappointed! read more

Great place for brunch or a snack, coffee is always good, the staff are friendly and run the place well. There is seating inside and out with a variety of tables and other seating options. There is a bohemian feel to the place making more like a friend's home than a cafe. My burger with a side of chips was really good, so much that I ate half of it before thinking of taking a photo :) read more

Busy inside with only a limited menu, this place is a lot like me. Not perfect, but awesome. I'm talking smooth long blacks served with mineral water, outstanding three-quarter lattes and a wicked cold coffee with hazelnut syrup. The manager Mikey is the dude with the slick-backed hair and the mo'. He's always happy to help even if the place is jammed. Plus there's always at least one saucy/friendly waitstaffer who looks like the cover of Frankie. Roasters sells coffee by the bag too. I am currently enjoying the Colombian bean at home with my percolator. Though the Guatemalan is a little zestier. And BOO TO THE SHOP NEXT DOOR for complaining about the odd milk crate blocking their entrance. In fact I'm going to write a review for them right now. Please note: Roasters is closed on Sundays. (No doubt as an act of mercy to give other coffee shops a chance.) Overall, my numero uno. Si! read more

I love this cafe. It has to be the best coffee in Canberra (they roast it themselves) and it has the best atmosphere. Most places in Canberra have no idea how to do a funky, relaxed cafe with great food and coffee. But finally there is a cafe: Lonsdale Street Roasters. I have been to this cafe many, many times when I visit Canberra, often spending hours sitting around soaking up the atmosphere, the food, the coffee and people. The menu is quite limited (especially if you can't eat bread), but what they do make they make very well. All the panini I have tried have been very delicious and I didn't want finish them. The banana bread with ricotta is to die for! The fruit, yoghurt and muesli is quite yummy too. read more

In Adelaide we are spoilt for choice for good coffee joints. Finding this place was the highlight of my first weekend in Canberra. The coffee I had here was of excellent quality and I was super happy to have such a treat when I wasn't sure if I would find anything like this! Wonderful. read more

It was the first hipster place on the Canberra block. But backs up all the hipster attitude with a great coffee.

If you know your coffee and you like a variety of aromas, Lonsdale Roasters is for you! This hipster hangout draws crowds from all walks of life, linked together by the very fact that they know what good coffee tastes like. It's decently priced and the menu on offer has some truly interesting treats. Those who favour savoury or sweet will be impressed by the level of culinary creativity offered at this establishment. If you like to sit and sip a coffee and just think or read, it maybe hard to do so on a busy day (like Saturday morning), but at least the ever changing internal decor will keep you amused. The only thing I don't understand about this place is that it's not open for business on Sundays?! read more

Great coffee but awful atmosphere. Music is usually so loud you can't be heard giving your order to staff. Trying too hard to be trendy.

Coffee, Juice and Hot Choc was great. Food wasn't up to the same standard. Pulled pork burger roll disintegrated within about 30 seconds, however the pork was tasty. Also had the brisket burger. Brisket definitely needed more cooking as it was pretty tough, not a bad smoke bark though. read more

The worst hot chocolate that I have had in Canberra bar none. Bitter and disgusting, barely even tasted like chocolate.

Tasty fresh food, funky venue, but sloppy service - slow and got one of our meals wrong.

yeah... average food and service. Tries to create a Melbourne/Hipster vibe... guess it does a good job for Canberra. Still... room for improvement is clearly there. read more

This is an exciting new place to visit for a scrumptious meal or a fresh roasted coffee. I was watching a TED talk recently and learnt that coffee needs to be freshly roasted to get the full superfood benefit. I like the idea that drinking freshly roasted coffee can prevent cancer and whenever I am in Canberra I head to LSR to get my fix. They have recently renovated and have a fully functioning kitchen serving in house hickory smoked meats. It's the little differences..like the Royale with Cheese! read more
