We drive a 2004 F150 with about 215k miles on it and we live in Southern California. We were…read morevisiting family in Howe, IN a few thousand miles ago when the check engine light started flashing. Thanks to a family member, there was a code reader nearby and we were able to self diagnose "cylinder 5 misfire". We knew we were past due for spark plugs, so this seemed to be the most likely fix. Anybody familiar with the 5.4l Triton V8 knows that this is not a job for a novice and you can expect broken spark plugs stuck in the cylinders from the slightest misstep. As we were on vacation, we had neither the tools not the 'give a damn' for the job. Yelp reviews are awesome but not super common for local businesses in small town USA. My sister in law Kat recommended The Bent Wrench as they had been recommended to her for repairs on her 2005 F150. My husband called to ask to have the spark plugs replaced and was told that The Bent Wrench was quite thoroughly booked, but, if we dropped the truck off they would squeeze us in as soon as possible! They charged a very reasonable labor rate and were all quite friendly people. We dropped the truck off around 1pm that day and were able to pick it up before 5pm the next day. We drove it 35-40 miles that evening and everything seemed to be 100%. Of course, Murphy's law applies double to road trips! The next morning, we were set to leave for the next leg of our trip. About 10 miles out from Kat's house, the engine light starts flashing again. The code was once again "cylinder 5 misfire"! We turned around and drove directly to The Bent Wrench and discussed the problem. They then replaced the coil on cylinder #5 and we were once again happily on our way! Maybe the coil was the original problem but that seems unlikely since it ran so well when we picked it up. It's pretty common for the coils to be fine before you mess with them and then not fine soon after you put them back. Either way, when we first called, we asked for new spark plugs, not the diagnosis and repair of an unknown issue. We made it home, on schedule, with no additional problems and then got the biggest surprise! The Bent Wrench called to ask if we'd made it home without any additional issues! We are happy we chose them and absolutely satisfied with the result!

But during that week of shaking, it screwed up my brake caliper. Which they then charged me almost a grand to fix. Since they were tearing that apart to replace it, I tell them to replace the pads. They tell me, we'll we won't warranty the work if you dont let us do the rotors to...which was completely unnecessary. But, sure. So I get it back from them and vow they can never touch my car again, because everytime I get it back, it comes back to me more screwed up. The next month, I have Dodge do the rear brakes and rotors. My brakes still screech, so I call dodge and have them investigate. Come to find out, Harold used cheap, garbage aftermarket parts, without my approval, and now the front pads are glazing. So I make them do an inspection. "Oh, no! No evidence of that. We'll warranty the pads for you, but were gonna charge you a bunch more money for labor." And this is to replace, for a second time. Work i already paid them to do that they did a half assed job of. And ALL these issues happened because they didnt just balance my tires to begin with....I couldnt in good conscious recommend anyone bring their vehicle here for service. If I had to guess, they're probably ordering their parts from temu and charging everyone through the nose for shit garbage parts.

They charged me $30.00 and told me I would get that reimbursed if I had them do the work. I informed them that I worked at a Napa store, and would purchase my own parts and have the work done by a local mechanic, but would bring it back for the alignment. They told me that I would not get my $30 back if I didn't have them do the work. So, I took my car to one of the local mechanics, working at a Napa store, we know all of the mechanics in the area, and after inspection, he informed me that there was nothing wrong with my control arms, or even the bushing, which is usually what goes bad on the control arms. These people just saw a woman by herself, and wanted to upsell me for a very expensive job that I didn't need. Charged me $30, and didn't do what I asked them to do. I will never recommend these people, especially if you are a woman coming in alone!!
