Dish Cooking Studio is a long-standing cooking school in Toronto that offers various themed cooking…read moreclasses year-round. We made a reservation online for one of the themed nights, and the experience was 10/10 right from the beginning. While waiting to enter the 'cooking school' kitchen, we were served drinks (including choice of wine) and we could browse the 'lobby' area where they had ready-made frozen meals, ingredients, and pre-made soup mixes to go. After an introduction by the chef instructor, our class was divided into groups. Each group was responsible for creating 1 dish from the menu that night, which included appetizer, main, and dessert. We were able to learn various practical cooking techniques and skills throughout the night by rotating through the different stations - such as oyster shucking, pasta making (from scratch), how to create the different sauces, etc. Very useful info and hands-on experience. They had a pasta-making machine on site, and it was fun to shape the pasta doughs into different custom shapes using the moulds. We used all natural ingredients for colouring, such as beets to make the pasta pink / purple. What stuck with me the most was learning how to shuck open raw oysters properly. We also made 3 different sauces to go with the raw oysters, including the classic mignonette (consisting of red wine vinegar and eschalots). The main dish of that night was lamb rack, but because I don't eat meat, the chef personally cooked a grilled salmon & vegetables dish for me (that he whipped up quickly in the back kitchen) - it was nice that they were accommodating like that. Dessert was a sorbet with fresh fruits (sliced strawberries). The whole cooking experience took a few hours, so by the time everything was ready, we were all starving. Food somehow tastes better when you know it was the labour of your own work!

More affordable than the other marcaron making classes that I've seen at other places. The instructor was very informative and the class was taught well. There was also handouts with the recipe and notes. The instructor was very friendly and chatted with us as well. He shared a lot of tips and tricks! The class was quite long and we made 2 flavours. Each step was guided and completely hands on. The kitchen was professional and very clean, each person was set up with everything we needed and there was no clean up for us at all, they took care of everything! The macarons we made turned out successful! And between 4 people we had about 60 macarons to take home. They also provided boxes for us. I would love to take another class here and can't recommend it enough!

My boyfriend and I signed up for the sakura roll cake class, which to be honest is I don't think is a beginner class. The techniques I felt were pretty advanced and my goodness, folding is not as easy as it looks. However! Our instructor Baron was so helpful, patient, informative and would teach us little tricks/tips/hacks to make the baking process more successful. This cooking studio is a hidden gem. The classroom environment was small, intimate, friendly and really totally worth the cost.(the roll cake course was $99) They provide you all the tools, and you get a box to take home your whole roll cake. Mine surprisingly did not look like a pile of disaster thanks to clear instructions and some help. And even better? My cake tasted legit. When I mean legit, it was almost like bakery quality. I mean they really set you up for success which is good, but you a learn a lot too! Now I have a whole roll cake to eat for breakfast/lunch/dinner. I need to eat and appreciate my masterpiece. I highly recommend checking out their website, they have so many diverse courses to take. They have pastries, cakes, cooking and even a pho class! Located in Markham, it's a trek, but totally worth a fun date or even to go with a friend or two. Honestly, I had the best time and you get a wonderful learning experience. I think I might take a stab at the cooking classes next time!

I'd gone to a Chef Upstairs event a few years ago, and always kept them in mind as it was a great…read moreexperience. They offer various services and events, and I recalled as well that they also do kids camps. Over the past couple years, my daughter has taken a big interest in cooking. And not just a fleeting interest, but consistently enjoys watching cooking shows and wanting to participate in cooking at home. As we were planning summer camps this year, I thought we should try to finally give her a chance to live her dream a bit and attend a week here. She's gone to a city-run one before. Though she quite enjoyed it, it was fairly simple. At The Chef Upstairs, they are in a full commercial kitchen with gas stoves, deep fryers and a whole bunch of other things you'd expect from a real kitchen. They have a firm belief that kids can learn safely - in fact, the safest thing is to expose them and provide proper technique. And they're not just making things like a deli meat roll up wrap, but full-on multi-course meals (they make breakfast and lunch) and from recipes from all around the world. You should look at the menus they post on their site for the kids camps. It was a bit of a sacrifice for us as we do not live nearby. That said, they have two locations, so a number of people are well-situated if near Vaughan and midtown Toronto. It's also a bit more money than many other kids camps - though its apparent with the food costs and the high staffing ratio that it's still good value. Ultimately, it was well worth it. My daughter loved it and truly lived out a dream and learned a lot. The highlight for her was the week long prep leading up to the Iron Chef-esque competition where they planned their own full menu. I'm thrilled that The Chef Upstairs lived up and even exceeded our already high expectations and truly made a lifetime memory for our daughter.

The Edible Story is a unique place that brings together the catering, cooking classes, private dinners and corporate events. We came here for a Holiday team get together. I suggested this places because I knew it would be a fun experience working together but also working as a team to make. Wonderful yummy meal that we got to enjoy afterwards. It was such a fun and engaging experience. Everyone was welcoming and made our event so amazing. The chefs were friendly, knowledgeable and really walked us through the process. It was amazing to experience cooking together with my coworkers but also to break bread with them afterwards. We All broke into groups and tackled the menu which consisted of salad to start with a lemony dressing. Followed by the wild mushroom gnocchi with a gremolata, and watercress and Parmesan. The main was steak with cipollini onions in a wine reduction and crispy potatoes with lemon ricotta. To finish we had a flourless chocolate cake with miso included caramel. Everything was easy to make, uncomplicated flavours and just so damn delicious! I'm so happy I got to experience this wonderful place for a second time with an amazing team! Thank you for the experience and an afternoon well spent with my coworkers!

Quite a lot of parking around the vicinity of the area, however, you might have a tough time finding the spot as the location of the place is similar as it is considered the same plaza within a condo unit that is also down there, so ensure that you walk and tour around before heading in and mistaking it for another place haha. Nice venue overall and not much to complain about as the location was great and had a good time.

As part of the chorus we were greeted by the Chef & The Chef's Team and they were a cool bunch of people. After washing up we were told what we were making for the day and we got into it. From baking a cake to prepping our meat everything was shown in full detail. So for an average amateur this was great. Even someone who is experienced will enjoy the knowledge. The best part was to get the hands-on experience actually barbecuing the meat and dishes alike. After a few hours of preparing and cooking the fun begins when we all got to plate our dinners and enjoy them over some drinks. As a wrap up to the event and course you're all pleasantly presented a certificate of completion to get us off into becoming future Pitmasters. This was a tremendous amounts of fun. I hope that everyone can experience it at least once. I know I'm looking forward to coming back to Future training courses.

It is actually quite small and it has tons of stuff. It has all the tools for jewelry making, sewing kits, pottery...etc. It has a kitchen for us to do the hands on for the cooking, I have never personally been there before I thought this is a facility that everyone gets their own cooking station. Instead, 3 or 4 people in a station, and we all cook different recipe. The problem with different recipe cooking station is that if someone screw up the recipe, everyone in the class get to go home with a screw up dish. Don was the chef that taught us the class. He's wise and down to the earth. He is also very resourceful to explain where to get the ingredient and what each ingredient does. At the end of the class, we get to take home the food that everyone cooked. We were actually quite lucky that everyone in the group was be able to cook and the food is turn out decent after the meal. I personally think it's quite fun to take the class and we are not expecting a Calphalon Culinary Center experience. The ingredients and the cooking method was very practical for normal families. There's also no cookingware they are trying to sell you. It is just pure cooking experience.
