If you're visiting the north shore of Kauai and you train, you better stop in at Longman Jiu-Jitsu. Incredibly welcoming gym for all levels. Did Friday 6pm no-gi with Reef and then came back the following morning for Saturday Open Mat. This will be the first place I go anytime I'm back on Kauai. Bonus: After training, fuel up with some açaí or a smoothie at North Shore Bowls which is in the same parking lot. read more

During my first family vacation post covid pandemic I was able to stop in to visit and attend a class. Professor Bruno Ewald covered the details of a fundamental technique that covered the complexities of something you may have thought as simple but very difficult to execute correctly. This was my second time visiting Professor Bruno Ewald's School. The first time was 16 years ago at his Princeville location when I was a Bluebelt. The current location in Kilauea is super clean and spacious. Last but not least, his students that I trained with were all very welcoming. Highly recommend for anyone on the Island to go and train there. read more

I traveled to Kauai for the first time and wanted to find a good BJJ academy to get some solid training in. A friend from back home recommended I check out the Longman crew and boy am I happy I did. Professor Bruno was so kind and receptive when I showed up. After training under him for a few hours, I learned a few tips to improve my leg lock submissions. I was greeted by all the students and appreciated how they made me feel welcome. I enjoyed my time here so much that I ended purchasing some shorts to rock back home on the mats in CA. Thank you, Professor Bruno - now I have my "go-to" jiu-jitsu academy on Kauai! read more

I came to Kauai for a vacation and to visit friends but also wanted to train while I was out there. I called Professor Bruno to ask if I could train and he was very friendly and welcoming. I got there and the class was great, all Aloha vibes and I learned some solid techniques. I rolled with Professor Bruno and Professor Noah, they were exceptional coaches. I would absolutely recommend visiting if you're on the island. read more

I always come to train with Professor Bruno and his team when I'm on Kauai. To be fair I basically come to Kauai just to train here for a few days, it's that good. I can't wait to bring my kids here in a couple years and put them in the kid's classes. Don't hesitate to go check out a class if you live in the area or are visiting so you can see for yourself! read more

I was on holiday in Kauai and inquired with a friend (Mr. Echo Charles) who used to live on the island as to where I should do some drop-in classes; I was pointed to Longman Jiu-Jitsu. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by the owner/operator and lead instructor, Mr. Bruno Ewald. Bruno couldn't have been nicer as he walked me thru the A-Z's of his establishment. Also, his staff member, Amber was equally as sweet, as we talked about commonalities we had in California. After the introductions, I was greeted by all the students and made to feel welcome and at home. Bruno, who is a high level black belt under the legendary Royler Gracie, is not only a fantastic personality, but his instruction is top notch as he is a clear communicator. His son, Hunter, also a black belt and an instructor, is equally as personable and knowledgeable. They both make a dynamic father and son team! Bruno and his team keep their dojo up to specs as you would expect to see from someone who was taught under the Gracie Banner. A single class is 35.00, and a week of unlimited classes was 100.00 I opted for the week of classes. A bathroom is provided for changing, and there are high quality tee shirts and Gis available for sale. All in all, if you are in Kauai and are looking to train BJJ, this is your spot. Learning in a quality establishment, with friendly folk who have the bona fides. What more do you need? Thanks Longman Jiu-Jitsu! read more

Visiting from out of town and my daughter needed a place to train. I spoke to the head instructor Bruno who is more than accommodating. Class started without a hitch and the instructor there was Noah. Noah introduced my daughter to the class and made her feel at home. Noah let my daughters train with some of the other students who were very good and help my daughter with some of her techniques that she needed to work on. If I lived in town for sure this would be the school for my daughter. I would recommend the school for anybody who is visiting or anybody who is serious about learning Brazilian jujitsu at a world-class school. read more

I was on vacation in Kauai (North Shore) and wanted a place to train. I met Grant and he was very friendly and accommodating. His team was very skillful and really helped me out with instructions and tips. The drills they did were pretty unique to me, which I will try to incorporate into my own training now. TIPS - $25 training fee. Bring exact change Come in your gi. No changing room Bring a bottle of water Be ready to grapple with some talented jiu jitsu practitioners My only disappointment was that they didn't have access to any patches or shirts because I would have love to have been able to bring home a souvenir from my time training with them.
