There are so many great vendors and it's awesome that there's the staples there each week + rotating vendors. It's great that some stands will give you samples. There is such a great variety to choose from and the local vendors are all sooo incredibly nice. My favorites are the chip family and the couple who sells pound cake cupcakes. Their personalities and products shine! Some of my other favorite vendors: -Charlene Li's pottery: her work is gorgeous. We own one of her spoon rests and olive oil dispensers, in addition to gifting some too. -I can't remember the farm name but it's along the left hand side when you walk into the field. They are always set up there with 2-3 long tables of their produce. -Cosmic donuts: who doesn't love a hot, fresh apple cider donut? I also like their coffee. It's simple, it's cheap, it's delicious! -Verdilune jewelry: beautiful, unique jewelry. I have a few pieces of my own, my friends have bought from there, and I've gifted a few as well. Be prepared with cash since some vendors don't have card readers and for the ones who do the WiFi can be very laggy and cause issues. If you end up liking the market I highly recommend becoming a "friend of the market" where you pay to get a special market bag and that gets you discounts at every vendor for the entire season!

Most recently I picked up some loose leaf artisan tea from Whole Harmony, which I hand sewed into heart shape tea bags for my Valentine. Total win. Add a little Stonewall Apiary honey to mix, and boom, perfect cup of tea. Seriously though, you can't beat a market that sometimes has baby goats and always has a stellar list of weekly vendors, and a great mix of visiting vendors every single Sunday. I had never been to the Winterfresh Market, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. It was definitely nowhere near as fun as the CFRM where one can buy lunch sit outside and take in the scenery, but it did offer a lot of the same products. We make a quick spin around and then left. We are addicted to the kettle korn, so we will be back but it won't be as frequent as our trips to the CRFM over the summer.

Strong Farm's annual scarecrow contest is a family affair for children and adults of all ages…read more There are two contest classes, business and family with ribbons awarded in each class. Judging and the awards ceremony occurs late October usually a week or so before Halloween. This is our fifth contest and perhaps the largest we've seen to date, interest has been growing steadily since it began 6 years ago. Local vendors and artisans promote their crafts: jewelry, home made jams, jellies, preserves, bake goods, scarfs and artwork. The 4H club brings animals for display and petting making the event very interesting for younger children. This is a day of good wholesome family fun day, connecting attendees to rural life on the farm.

I was on a Fall drive in my convertible and happened upon a town called ANDOVER. While whizzing…read morethrough, two white gates caught my eye and a sign "HURST FARMS". I saw what appeared to be a great house in the distance. The drive through the gates was amazing! it was at least a quarter mile of palatial grounds of gorgeous trees and interesting structures looming ahead. I pulled up to a picturesque Country Store and was greeted immediately by a lovely lady with sparkling blue eyes who was chatting on the porch with her well known customers. It was clear she was the owner by the conversation of what was new in the store and how the grandbabies were doing. I perused the store as they bid farewell and was over the moon with all the offerings! Maple syrup, homemade jam, fresh baked bread, fresh salsa and fresh picked greens of every sort. It was then I met "Sheri", the owner who let me know the maple syrup I was holding was "hand tapped" by her husband Tom and herself! They also have a "Sugar House" on the property in addition to the barns and other buildings I could see. She told me one day every year she bakes bread in the brick oven out in the sugar house and everybody comes by to get a free slice of warm bread spread with warm maple cream! I was BLOWN AWAY! I asked how many people come on that day. She nonchalantly answered, "oh...about 800 or 900"!!! During the time she took to speak to me, she helped at least 9-12 of regular clients that came in and out for one thing or another. I've never felt so "at home" and yet in the way of this woman of perpetual motion. Hurst Farms is truly a world all its own. On the way to my car with everything I purchased, I saw Shari's grandchildren playing outside in the trees and her children laughing together outside while they washed that days picked vegetables together. I wonder how many people drive by those gates and have no idea this wonderland exists. I think God sent me there that Tuesday. My only child passed away 7 years ago...if only this family knew just "watching them" interact so kindly with each other and working together for a common purpose saved my life that day.

Set in the open Nevers Road Park, this market offers a variety local goods and a fun morning. When my friends and I walked over from nearby parking areas (which were plentiful and easy to get to), the smells of freshly cooked donuts from Faddy's Donut Shop and the sounds of a Grateful Dead tribute band met us. After grabbing some donuts, instead of sitting in the nice rest area set up near the band, we began down the line of stands. We found a little of everything we wanted and more!! We grabbed a couple slices of pie from Granny's Pie Factory, a brown butter dark chocolate chip cookie from LaBrioche Bakery, a couple of jars of homemade artisan teas from Whole Harmony, and a bouquet of freshly picked flowers from the Syme Family Farm. Shopping here can get a bit pricey, for example, a South Windsor Farmers Market tote bag was $5; however, you're supporting local businesses, many of which don't have storefronts. It's well worth chipping in a few extra bucks with the quality of the goods and the personal attention you receive at the stands. I would rather save my money and spend it here than at big chain stores that don't need it. Every vendor we went to, especially the individuals at the Syme Family Farm and the Whole Harmony stands, were extremely kind and helpful. The vendor of Whole Harmony allowed us to try a couple of teas he had out as well as the lavender lemonade (all of which were extremely delicious); he also told me how to properly steep the teas and gave me a loyalty card that offers a free jar after ten purchases. The vendors at the Syme Family Farm stand told me how they handpicked each flower, and wrapped up my bouquet--which was thoughtfully put together with care--and put it in a plastic baggie with wet paper towels around the stems to keep the flowers hydrated after I asked if they would be all right since we were not going directly home. I was very impressed by these two vendors' professionalism and kindness. The South Windsor Farmers Market is definitely a farmers market you need to check out!! It's open every Saturday in the morning (which is an extremely convenient and great time) from the middle of June until the middle of October. The organization running also has a list of what vendors will be there each week on a document on the website. You'll really enjoy every minute of being at this market, and you will undoubtedly find spectacular goods!!
