A true shame there aren't more reviews, but it seems like Yelp hasn't really hit it off in Australia?
After spent a total of 19 hours either at an airport or in an airplane, I was ready to eat some REAL food. Thankfully, UberEATS delivered in the area and I decided to give this place a shot. Plus, being away from home always make me feel nostalgic for some Chinese cuisine.
I ordered prawn spring rolls, Shanghai vegetable and pork noodle soup, beef brisket on rice, boiled (steamed) chicken and prawn dumplings, and har gow for lunch/dinner:
- prawn spring rolls: they were pretty good! The outer shell was crispy and you can actually see prawns inside. Just a bit on the oily side... especially after you heat them up in the microwave.
- Shanghai vegetable and pork noodle soup: probably the biggest disappointment. The noodles and toppings were really good, but the soup lacked any flavor. Since I was in a hotel, and did not have time to get any groceries, I couldn't add any salt or anything. I added some soy sauce, but it didn't really do anything. Real shame.
- beef brisket on rice: I can read Chinese, and based on what the Chinese words said, I was a bit disappointed to see what actually came. It's completely different from what I had in mind. That being said, I was really surprised at how good it was! The beef brisket was very tender, just the right amount of fat, and really nicely flavored. The dish came with a good amount of sauce, so after you mix it all together, it was really good!
- boiled chicken and prawns dumplings: not bad. I've never had this type of dumplings before and I'd definitely order them again. I like that they were overly oily, too.
- har gow: for those of you that don't know what they are, they're kind of like shrimp dumplings. The skin is translucent and the filling is grounded up shrimp in a paste-like texture. Usually, the skin is too thick. This place was pretty legit though. Tasted just like authentic dim sum.
To be honest, I was so hungry, I probably would've eaten anything. BUT this place is the real deal. I'm really happy that my first meal EVER in Melbourne was this good. I'd definitely order here again! read more
