Really enjoyed the dim sum at Crystal Jade. The test of a good dim sum spot for me always starts w if the chicken feet passes the test and it definitely did here (good flavor and was not smothered in sauce and grease). The prawn dumplings was also great as well. Also really enjoyed the steamed bean curd, fried taro puffs, and pan fried turnip cakes. Would have given Crystal a 5 star for dim sum if the shumai was better (thought they were smaller in size than normal and hard). Had quite a few dishes for dim sum and nothing disappointed outside of the shumai. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a dim sum / yum cha spot with your friends and family.

I've surprised to see such bad reviews for Crystal Jade. We were visiting Melbourne and my aunty, who lives in the city, took us here for dim sum. She says my cousin only comes here for dim sum cause she absolutely loves it! She made reservations for us, for a party of 9! They were quick to honor the reservations and had our table ready for us when we arrived. The restaurant is nice, smack right in the middle of Melbourne's Chinatown, in the little alley between the signature Chinatown Arch! We had a little bit of trouble find the place cause we didn't know if it was in the alley or in the large high rise building with the garage attached to it, right next door. You have to climb some stairs or fit into a tiny (literally suppose to only hold 4 people) elevator to get to the restaurant. Clean, high end place for Chinatown, with lots of people coming here for their lunch! The place is traditional and serves dim sum in the steaming carts! Every dish we had was steaming hot and you can see the steam rising as they open up each dish. The service was quick and we were able to order right away - they had multiple servers come by to check on us. You can request/order dishes to be made, and they were quick to get everything to you in a timely manner. Now I have to say, everything I had in Australia tasted so much healthier than in the states; the dim sum included. I felt like the dim sum was way less soggy/greasy and they actually use fresh local ingredients. We liked all the dishes - the chicken feet, the shrimp dumplings, the deep fried items were extra crispy! Everything tasted like I would expect, without the greasiness! I didn't try the soup dumplings, but I saw them and they didn't look soupy at all. My favorites were definitely the chicken feet and the turnip cakes (so crispy)! I think it was a bit on the pricey side for these traditional dishes, but you pay for the ambiance/the experience/the cleanliness/and the quality! I'm not sure how it compares to other dim sum places in Melbourne, or even Australia, cause this was the one and only time we had dim sum - but we enjoyed it and our experience tremendously!

Went to crystal jade for a midweek lunch, trolleys as mentioned previously were fast so the table was filled with dishes in no time. Really polite and thoughtful waiters that flowed between their multilingual skills. Food is clean and on the smaller side in terms of size and nothing really stuck out but everything was consistent. Cuisine seems more Chinese than hk but it's still good. Price was $72 for two but hey we pigged out and there was paypass which was convenient.

Egg Tarts and Mango pudding at Crystal Jade Restaurant.

They do a very nice steamed prawn dumpling at Crystal Jade - it's petite with a perfectly thin translucent wrapping, and tightly packed with tasty prawn chunks. There's none of those clumsy and bland prawn dumpling 'fists' you get at pleb places like Gold Leaf. The other dishes we had were fresh and well seasoned, and the egg tarts and mango pudding a delicious end to the meal. I recommend booking if you intend to go on the weekend, otherwise be prepared to wait for 10-30mins. Table service is rapid, but polite and multi-lingual. And if you don't see a dish that you want, be sure to flag a waiter down and order it.

Very affordable yum cha!

Classic Yum Cha/Dim Sum(to my fellow Americans). Good flavors. No waiting for carts and fair pricing for flavorful fresh food. Loved the prawn chive and beef noodle. Would head back here to stuff myself full of dumplings any day!

Our friend take us here for dinner. They're crowded even for a Monday night. We had the snow white crabs with noddle, the melon soup, the prawns with salted egg sauce, the garlic beefs, the squire with garlic steams, the peas veggies dishes. ALL the dishes were awesome! The price is reasonable, only the snow crabs was like $300kilo, but worth every dollars. The restaurant is clean and service was very nice. If I ever come back to this country I will come here again. IT's one of the best restaurant I eaten in Australia.

A little classy but reasonable priced restaurant. They serve Cantonese style cuisine. And if you are a seafood lover, then their fresh seafood (water tanks are next to the entrance) would satisfy your urge! Try their Duck Liver Pâté Crab, you won't regret with the experience. Or the Boiled Egg steam Crab. All sounds funny? But surely will stick in your head for quite a while. Oh.. I am hungry now! meow.........

Not bad, not as good as the franchises back in Singapore but comparable to other yum cha places in little China in Melbourne. The service is pretty efficient as soon as you sit down the yum char trolleys roll towards your table.

Good for a quick and easy yum cha on a Sunday, however there's a bit of a wait. The made to order dishes are better than the ones they push in the cart. Mango pudding is only average :-(

The winter melon soup.
