This establishment is what I find most enjoyable about going out to eat. Easy atmosphere and service that is sincere and personable. Their ability in serving the rack of ribs consistently and with meat that is tender to the touch that is glazed with a house sauce that has a subtle kick and sweetness to it, No one does Ribs better. Mine had no fat, perfectly moist and tender without drowning in a lake of sauce. They have mastered this menu item down to it truly being something I would drive hours out of my way every time for. If you are looking for a nice place to have dinner for one, two or host a party like a reunion The Longbranch Saloon is the perfect place. Tonight we were there to celebrate our 40th anniversary and couldn't have been more pleased with the service or the quality of the food. We made a reservation for the 10 of us in advance so when we came in our table was nicely set and ready. We ordered several orders of appetizer plates and every one at the table enjoyed them while we looked over the menu and placed our dinner orders. The meal was timed perfectly with all of us getting our plates at the same time hot, fresh and per the way they were ordered. If you are more of an outdoor person they have a fantastic outdoor area to enjoy a drink and some company. If you are in the area I highly recommend stopping at The Longbranch. read more

I gave it 4 stars only because they have Pepsi products...Yeech. Everything else was really good. We had corn nuggets and fried cauliflower bites for an appetizer, and the crab meat stuffed shrimp for dinner. Fries and baked potatoes were done well, and the service was good too. Our server realized right away that I loved tea and that the glass I had wasn't enough and dropped me off a carafe of tea and a plate of lemons. I gotta say i know it was depot days but 16.00$ for a pork chop sandwhich that looked like it was cut off of the pork chop i should of had 3/8 of an inch wth i thought ok this is gonnna be an iowa pork chop like an inch thick 16$ wth very dissapointing the depot days menu was terrible i told my wife this happened before she said no this is a good place i was right terrible!!!! read more

The Long Branch has long been a favorite place to dine and gather with families and friends. Their fried chicken is legendary as are their ribeye steaks. They also offer a basket of various crackers with fresh butter and bread. A person can also ask for their famous liver paste to spread on the crackers ...they mix it up right there. They usually have a number of homemade desserts as well as ice cream. The bar service is always open and ready to serve. There are no words to express how amazing this restaurant is! I was skeptical at first being a saloon but my 10 year old fit in perfectly! The sweet corn nuggets are sooooo good and my husband and MIL had the fried mushrooms and they couldn't stop raving about it. Before our meals we were served salads and of course the house creamy cucumber dressing was phenomenal. My MIL & I had the fried Walleye and there was so much We couldn't finish it. My 10 year old had the ribeye and she cleaned her plate! Of course being able to get dark meat was already a check in my husband's book and he also cleaned his plate. I can't say enough about this place but it's our new go-to when we go to Amboy now. Highly recommend!! read more

I ordered the Chicken strip dinner to go, fries , coleslaw . i got there a little early to pick it up, so i sat at the bar and had a refreshment. nice friendly employees, friendly customers price was reasonable. I got home to eat, the chicken was very tender, the breading was crunchy but not hard, or fried in old deep fryer grease. this food was the best take out food i have eaten in over a year. i moved to Amboy over a year ago, Long Branch Saloon will be my restaurant for now on in this area! read more

My grandmother lived in Amboy back in the 60s and 70s and we visited many times. So yesterday was a little nostalgia visit and we enjoyed an early dinner here. Sat at the bar, and Cara was super friendly and helpful. I tried the Buffalo chicken sandwich and had some of the fried cod, too. Delicious! Food was very good overall. Fresh salad with their house made cucumber dressing....very nice. Food alone a solid 4 but the best part was the ambiance, so I'm saying 5!. Nice people. Excellent bar area. We went for the first time based on a recommendation of a friend, and so glad we did. We are new to the area and have had difficulty finding a great local restaurant. I think we finally found it. The atmosphere is reminiscent of an old saloon with a darker yet very neat, clean and modern decor. We were there at 5pm on a Saturday and were promptly greeted and seated immediately. The bar was buzzing and all clientele seemed to be enjoying themselves. Our waitress was delightful, quite knowledgeable of the menu and attentive to our needs. The salads are generous and the house cucumber dressing is fabulous, I recommend it highly. The chicken wings were larger than most, meaty and delicious. There is a larger room for parties too. We look forward to visiting this place much more often! read more

The pantheon of crummy restaurants is busting at the seams, but I believe Long Branch has achieved a singular and elusive distinction: The most horrifyingly distasteful restaurant experience in Northern Illinois. Now, allow me to frame my argument. Restaurants are universally rated on several criteria: 1) Quality of Food, 2) Efficacy of service, 3) Ambiance, and 4) Value. Long Branch fails miserably on at least three of the four. 1) Quality of Food-I can only speak to the "Long Branch Special Ribeye" that I ordered. It was small, fatty, and possessed of an odd grey color. In fact, it appeared to be boiled and then slapped on the grill for a few seconds so that the requisite grill marks were visible. It was totally bereft of flavor, but because I was ravenously hungry (see # 2 below) I ate most of it. The small baked sweet potato that I ordered as a side was serviceable. The cole slaw was tasty. My wife reported that the world famous fried chicken, which was ordered by most of our large party, was dry, hard, and greasy. 2) Efficacy of Service-Here's where the story gets interesting. We arrived at 5:00 on Saturday evening, and ordered our food almost immediately-the place was not busy when we were seated. Our entree orders did not begin arriving at our table until well after 7:00. We waited, patiently and politely, with 3 young children and several senior citizens, for over two hours.... for fried chicken and boiled steak. There was narry an apology, not so much as an explanation, and never an ETA on our food. When we finally inquired as to the hold up, the waitress asked what time it was, and when I told her it was 6:50, she replied "10 more minutes." Puzzling to say the least. The food arrived at about 7:20. 3) Ambiance-I don't begrudge any restaurant for not looking like it stepped out of a design magazine. This one was much as you'd expect from a bar centered establishment in a small town, i.e not much to speak of. Various John Wayne photos and cheesy framed bits of wisdom adorn the walls. And that's fine, if lacking imagination, except for the fact that Duke would have famously called the place Ri-G*dd*mned-diculous if he ever visited. 4) Value-You would reasonably assume, based on the inexcusable wait for our food, that the staff of the Long Branch would bend over backwards to try and salvage our experience. Not so. A 20% gratuity was added to every one of our bills. Additionally, for a remote, small town dining experience, this place was lights out expensive: 1 quarter fried chicken dinner, a kids grilled cheese, the Long Branch "Special" ribeye (special in this case is pejorative), 1 Blue Moon, and 2 Goose Island 312 was $49 before the mandatory 20% gratuity. I refused, out of principal and at risk of imprisonment, to pay the gratuity, by the way. All in all, an experience that will be indelibly etched, at number one, on the tablet of horrible restaurant visits. read more

The service is attentive and the food is delicious. Hubby loves the gizzards/livers- they were cooked perfectly (this is a challenge in itself for many restaurants). I love the fried cheese balls- unique and yummy! Prime Rib was average- would not get it again. The chicken tenders and their special sauce are quite possibly the best I've had. The first time we went the pate was complimentary- not the second time though (not sure why we didn't ask). Will be back again! read more

We arrived at exactly 5pm and the 4 of us were immediately seated and within minutes had our drinks ordered and on our table. The server was bubbly, fast and efficient. We received our food in good time and it was delicious and there was plenty of it!!!! The place was busy but that didn't interfere with the quality of service we received. The fried chicken is very good. However, the steaks are just terrible. I have never had such a tough steak. I would recommend sticking with the fried chicken, salads, and fried chicken gizzards. This is a welcoming place, but the bar being in the front of the restaurant is not a good choice for families who have children. The prices are high as well. read more

unlike the Gordon Ramsey rextauranteer and food critic pundit, my experience with The Long Branch was delightful. I, too, ordered the Long Branch Special (which was cooked MOST CERTAINLY NOT BOILED to perfection.) Although a small town restaurant, my exoectations were met nonetheless. The bartenders were witty, charismatic and prompt. I enjoyed the homemade cheescake following my scrumptious dining experience. I did meet the owners of the Long Branch Saloon as well during my experoence, as they ventured from table to table checking on our food. This is what makes a restaurant. read more

The food and drinks are both fantastic! My husband and I go there a lot when we are staying at Woodhaven and have always enjoyed our evening. I would highly recommend the walleye on Friday nights and the filet steak is awesome at other time. The homemade cucumber dressing is a real treat along with the homemade desserts. read more
