Not sure why other people are so unhappy but I am very pleases about my visit, and the gals that were working with me were very nice! I had came to this office because I was recommended from a good family friend. I made my appointment asap with Suzette. She kindly understood my situation and made my appointment as soon as she could. A few days later, I had went in for my clean up. I was helped as soon as I walked into the door. Suzette made me feel like I was at home. Ms. Nancy was nicely welcoming me in the office. The office look very nice and clean, and it smells very good in there! I felt very comfortable. I really enjoyed having my teeth cleaned with the hygienist Lashanda. She was very gentle while working with my teeth. She talked to me through out the whole process. Making sure if I was okay or if anything she was working on was hurting. I was just assigned to this location by my insurance company. I won't be going. I was a client here years ago. I'm almost 60 now and I still do not have any cavities or fillings in my teeth. My teeth were in the same perfect condition when I went there for a cleaning, yet after my first visit, I was told that I needed a filling soon. AND, after my second (and last!) visit, I was taken into an office area after my cleaning and told in addition to a filling, I needed deep cleaning not covered by insurance. The cost was going to be over $600. I'm definitely the wrong person to pull that kind of upsell nonsense on. I feel sorry for all the people getting duped into having unnecessary work done. My advice is RUN for the door, or better yet, avoid going there in the first place. It's clear from more recent reviews they have not changed their ways. Very friendly staff (especially the person who did my x-rays) but it became clear in talking to the dentist that he was selling me on lots of treatment. Talking with the businessperson after my examination made this even clearer: I felt like I was being sold a car and was constantly pushed to do more, pay more, just sign the paper, etc. I got a horrible vibe from the place. When I went to another dentist -- a trusted personal friend with credentials for days but who's not in my network -- we laughed out loud because almost none of the treatment I was sold on is actually necessary. .I just got off the phone with 2 of Dr Wells staff , they continue to deny how unethical their bogus claims for their astronomical prices and needless dental procedures are . On 9/16/20 I went to Long Beach Dental Arts (LBDA) to have my teeth cleaned . I had no pain but I knew I was due teeth cleaning . These were their results : My teeth were x-rayed . Dr Wells walks in . His mask is not over his mouth ! Makes a comment , " I'm not using my mask , is that ok with you " ? I give him a stare , he eventually pulls it over his mouth . He starts rattling out numbers as his assistant writes them down . Afterward , the Dentist leaves , I sit , wait a bit and his assistant comes back . I follow her passed a row of cubicles . She leads me to the hygienist for a periodontal maintenance after therapy ? What does the therapy part mean ( don't know , sounds serious ). Once I'm settled she starts rattling about her love life while my mouth is wide open and being prodded . After 25 mins ( 15 mins actually spent cleaning my teeth ) she leads me to an office . In the office is the assistant who took x-rays . She hands me a printed sheet of what I need done and the cost . Periodontal maintenance after therapy with medicaments . ( I was not aware I got medicaments ). Must have been the mouth rinse the hygienist gave me . $165.00 . 2 small cavities on front teeth . $370.00 4 porcelain crown repairs / replace . $5000.00 Grand total : $5,535.00 . Estimated deductible to be applied 0.00 Estimated insurance payment 0.00 Estimated Patients Portion $5,535.00 They don't bother billing my insurance . Today they claimed since it's an HMO they don't bill them . Whatttt ! Makes no sense . Why bother having insurance . I paid the cleaning fee due that day . $165.00 . My balance is $5,370. WOW ! " why so much ! I can't afford this " . I say to the assistant . " Can't you do better ? " ( joking) . All of a sudden she gets up and leaves and comes back in a few . " How about $4,000.00 " she says . I'm shocked ! ( wait , did I just wheel and deal ) ? I never knew I could do that at a dentist office . So I said can you take a bit more off ? She gets up and comes back with an extra $250 . off and says " that's as low as we can go " . I said ok . " I'll Take window number two please . " just kidding . I left the office with a reduced bill and appts . When I get home I tell my roommate of my experience and he said " that's crazy how they changed the prices to keep you interested " . He was right . They actually were like a sales team in a car lot . So I decide to get a second opinion with Western Dental . A week later I get an appt . with them . They take x-rays and DENTIST comes in to tell me the findings . Turns out I needed a deep cleaning not a Periodontal maintenance . Right there I felt lied to by LBDA . I just blew $165. Turns out my gums were receding and gingivitis was setting in . ( just because I didn't have bad breath and oral pain ) didn't mean that my teeth weren't starting to deteriorate . The deep cleaning required numbing and could have been done on two separate times because of the trauma and discomfort . I chose to get it over with . After my cleaning I returned to get fitted for trays , because I now need to do severe oral maintenance. I do nightly medicaments for an indefinite time . Total cost of cleaning / maintenance package was $1,830 .00 . Which really angered me further with LBDA . Why didn't they tell me how severe my gums had gotten . This is what the Western Dental hygienist told me " some dentist will not offer you deep cleaning because they actually want your teeth to decay . That way your teeth will continue to decay and the more it does , more procedures , more money they make . Again $165.00 paid for nothing , seems more like a insurance policy for them to keep your mouth unhealthy . Not only was that a problem with LBDA but turns out the charges they were claiming were bogus . I did not need 4 crowns repaired , I only needed 2. And not only did I not have 2 front cavities . They were just stains . Western Dentals prices are set and they were still lower than the renegotiated prices that LBDA claimed . But my real angst against LBDA is that , I decided to file a grievance against them . My hope was to at least get my $165.00 refunded for unnecessary cleaning of my teeth since it wasn't a cleaning i needed , I needed a deep cleaning . Their claim to not refund me was " all dentist will have different opinions on what they feel you need to have " Hah ? What is that suppose to mean ? Excuse me , but my mouth is not yours to decide what you choose to do to it for money and not what is best for me ( the patient ) ! read more

All of my teeth were pulled Jan 2020 because I was getting implants. Covi d 19 happened so work was put on hold. Sept 2020 started service again. My partial dentures did not fit the service was sloppy I waited for the dentist more than once who never showed up. $20,000.00 later no teeth I have ask for a refund. No response when I call even though they say someone will get back with me. Do not trust them. I paid up front out of good faith because I did not want a monthly bill. Life has been difficult not being able to eat because I have no teeth. If it wasn't for the fact I have to wear a mask outside of my home I would really be in trouble walking around with no teeth. The office is a used car dealership for teeth. They scam you on the prices, lie about procedures and take you into a tiny financing office to try and up sell you on stuff you don't need. Update for a couple weeks ago (forgot this review was a draft; omg so sorry!): I get a call from them reminding me to get a cleaning. Are you kidding me!? I was polite to the rep but expressed my extreme dissatisfaction at how they handled my teeth! Never have had a cleaning from them and never will. FIRST TIME? AVOID THIS PLACE FOR ANYTHING BEYOND A REGULAR CLEANING! I wish I could have been wise enough to read the bad reviews for my first appointment with them! I had the same experience as a few others have had happen to me in December 2018. I went in for xrays, pictures, and a cleaning. They were friendly, but boy was I in for a surprise... Got my xrays and pictures done, but it took forever. They diagnosed me with 4 cavities ($750/tooth) and treatment was 4 inlay/crown procedures.. As well as 6 sealants($145/tooth)!! I was in disbelief at the $4000 price tag. I was also in tears, terrified of my the words they used to describe my teeth. (Also, $350 to add the nitrous) Jan 28, 2019 I went to my previous dentist I had for many years for a second opinion (I only switched because of insurance changes), and he said he "couldn't believe what they wanted to do to my virgin teeth". Haven't had any cavities or issues ever!! I have some coffee staining and they tried to take that as far as possible. Unbelievable. As for getting the xrays to my previous dentist for the second opinion appointment, I had to fight LB Dental Arts tooth and nail it seems (no pun intended) to get them sent over! I requested them to be emailed the day of my appointment with LBDA along with the photos they took. Veena sent me a picture of the thumbnails of my photos. WTH?? ‍ I had been trying for 3 weeks to get the xrays!! And then they tried charging me $25. So when I said my insurance paid for them I shouldn't need to pay the girl on the other line stammered and mumbled an excuse and froze. I then mentioned that it was for a 2nd opinion, and then all of a sudden she said: "well I'll have to check with my supervisor." *I'm on hold a couple minutes* "Oh, well it seems my supervisor is out, so I will waive the fee since it is for a second opinion. She will probably understand and won't mind." Cue 2 weeks later and my previous dental office and I both have called several times trying to get someone to email my pictures STILL. (FYI, Their answering service is a complete joke. Never once had I gotten a call back). Finally came down to a mini threat that "my appointment is today and I/THEY NEED THEM ASAP". I thought about writing this review for quite some time. When I first arrived at this place I thought wow what a great facility everything looks modern people are friendly etc. After I got my initial scans done of my teeth they told me they were going to send me to the "financial department". I was like OK that's a little odd but let's see what's going to happen here. I found myself in a small room with a woman at a desk who told me the amount of money they needed to fix my teeth (which was in excess of $4000.) The figure seemed pretty high to me but I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for the moment. This next part is absolutely mind blowing. She said that they had an option for a medical loan, and she proceeded to ask me if I wanted to see if I qualify. I said sure. After a little bit of typing on her computer and asking me some of my financial information she said well OK you qualified, you now have a $4100 line of credit open in your name through Wells Fargo. Let me repeat that. After asking if I would like to see if I qualified for a medical loan she took my Social Security number and opened up a $4100 line of credit in my name WITH OUT MY PERMISSION. I asked her to immediately close it and she said she can't do that I'd have to call the bank myself. I am not making this up. I became pretty upset over the process and left. Then had to spend 15 minutes on the phone with Wells Fargo closing the account. DO NOT get your teeth worked on here!!! I've gone to used car dealerships with more ethics. read more

Do not go here! They are salesmen not dentists! They have a whole set up where you get an exam and then they have you step into the Office Managers office and he gives you a treatment plan. Mine happened to cost thousands of dollars with insurance! I made an appt for a cleaning and never even got one! I have to agree with the other negative reviews of Long Beach Dental Arts. They recommended unnecessary procedures that would have rung up in the thousands, and were quite pushy. I sought a second opinion by a friend of the family and he confirmed that the procedures they were recommending were not necessary. WORST DENTAL OFFICE EVERRRRRRR!!!!! These people will try to upsale you to get procedures that you don't need done and then quote you prices that they will later (after you're in the chair and numb!!!) change. I was told I needed a root canal, but after two visits with different endodontist, I came to the understanding that I only needed a crown. So, they quoted me $400 for a crown, I scheduled the procedure and when I showed up they injected the numbing medicine, and THEN told me that their is going to be an additional "Build-Up fee" of $275!!! I met with them TWICE and went over pricing TWICE. Never was their ever mention about a build-up fee. They wait until you're in the chair and numb to tell you the real costs. The staff there are really nice and professional. Unfortunately, the dr. Wells recommends unnecessary dental work. I had a large filling had no issues at all with it, but he recommended that i replace it with a crown. After this my tooth began to hurt a lot. I saw dr. Wells 6 times and he said i need a root canal and referred me out. The crown is not even 6 months old and it fell. I saw my new dentist who has better yelp reviews. This place is a rip off!!! I took my children here and was sold an $800 fake treatment plan for tooth resurfacing. I was told my insurance did not cover it and it was needed. A few months later, I started working for a dental practice. I asked the dentists I worked for what this procedure was and they had no idea. I also asked other dentists about it and was told the same thing. In addition, not being aware of the difference between primary and secondary teeth, I was charged for the same tooth twice. The other issue that really bothered me is I was never allowed in the back with my children or allowed to speak with the dentist when I had questions. I understand that I can not be in the treatment room during the xray or treatment process. However, I should have been allowed back there to review the xrays and speak with the dentist about what was going on in my children's mouth!!! read more

I've gone to this dental office way too many times (back when I was in my teens/early twenties) because this was where my family went. I can't imagine why my mom chose this place and then kept coming back time after time. None of us go here any longer, we stopped going about 5 years ago - thank goodness. Primary reasons we seriously dislike this place: they overcharge like CRAZY! They over-prescribe unnecessary procedures like CRAZY! I've been to another Long Beach dentist since this place (he's a long time, Long Beach practitioner with great reviews) and he confirmed that all those procedures Long Beach Dental Arts INSISTED on, were completed unnecessary. Thank goodness I always told them no. (They even made me sign a disclaimer when I turned down their recommendations for all that frivolous, expensive, dental work.) If it was up to this place, you'd walk out of here a good one-two thousand dollars poorer after every visit. My final reason for disliking this place so intensely: I went in once and was told I needed a really invasive procedure similar to a root canal because (they told me) my tooth was rotted from the inside out so I schedule the visit and come in, when I come in, I'm seen by a totally different dentist who says, "Oh, sorry, that last dentist was wrong, this tooth is fine, you just have discoloring on the surface from having had brackets (braces) around this tooth, you can go home now." So I leave - and never go back. Then I go to a totally different dentist over a year later, who says yes there is discoloration from the braces, BUT there is also a cavity. A cavity that had they taken care of then, would not have been a very big deal, but would now potentially require a more invasive and expensive procedure to fix (fortunately, this new dentist was so stellar that he was able to clear out all the decay and fill it in a non-invasive and not very expensive procedure that took less than an hour at his office). DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTAL OFFICE, unless you want to spend literally thousands of dollar on unnecessary procedures and possibly be mis-diagnosed as well. read more

I am not one who likes to do a lot of reviews , but I felt I needed to give this place 2thumbs up .The Staff is so nice and caring from the moment I got there to have my dental treatment. I was offer coffee or water while I wait and let me tell you I waited less then 10 mins Dr. Wells explain to me what he was going to do as in treatment ( and I have a fear of the dentist ) his injections were pain free and I was surprise since they usually hurt. His lovely assistant was informing me of how the same day crown procedure goes. I was just amazed to see a dancing tooth on the computer screen, and knowing that is going to be my tooth. All the negative reviews about this place are completely true. Do NOT go here! While the office itself is clean and the staff are reasonably friendly, they will overcharge you and insist on procedures that are absolutely unnecessary. It started when I came in last year for a routine cleaning, and they diagnosed me with FIVE cavities-all requiring an expensive inlay (costing $500 a tooth). I was shocked at the diagnosis considering I have excellent dental hygiene, but trusted the fact that they were medical professionals, and I went forward with the procedure. Fast forward to today's cleaning and I was yet again diagnosed with 4 cavities, all requiring that $500 inlay. This raised a major red flag for me; I did not have any tooth discomfort and have been taking rigorous care of my teeth since last years $2500 ordeal. I asked the dentist what i could possibly be doing wrong to have 9 serious cavities in one year and was dismissed with a nonchalant explanation. I decided to take matters into my on hands and went to a different dentist later that day for a second opinion. When I asked long beach dental arts for my x-rays they said they would email them over after lunch, and when i informed then that i needed them asap because i was getting a second opinion they claimed that it would cost me $20 (for an EMAIL?) and were extremely reluctant. After multiple phone calls i was able to get a hold of my x-rays. After the new dentist examined my x-rays and my teeth in person he came to the conclusion that my teeth were extremely healthy and in near perfect condition-requiring absolutely no dental work. This leads me to believe that the $2500 I spent last year on my teeth was competently unnecessary. Do NOT go to this dental office. I came to this office a bit sceptical because of the reviews I read. But it's actually contrary to that, the staff is great especially Nancy she is Dr. Wells main assistant. Dr. Wells answered all my questions. I really enjoyed the way he explained things to me. As far as pricing goes it is average compared to other offices I have visited. The major difference here is that they are up to date with all the new technology. Which is a big plus for me personally. Veena the Manager was very pleasant. Surprised that we called and got a next day appointment. We arrive, and have some forms to fill out. They take 1 of our 2 insurances. We wait. And wait. After 1 hour, everyone including people who arrived after us had been called. I asked how much longer. "We are just getting his room ready." 1 other person inthe waiting room besides us. Another 15 minutes and the other person in the room is called. I stepped out to the hall and made 5 phone calls to other providers to find another dentist. Not one welcoming soul in the place. The worst experience I ever had in my life. This place is so unprofessional people are rude I waited almost an hour to be seen with nobody even in there. I left out of there in 3 hours after a consultation. They had me comeback that same day. The place is a dump I went to get a deep cleaning and they only did one half of my mouth. Then ask me to to return at 1030 3 days later to get the other half done. On that day never got a phone call about my appointment or even a reminder. Not sure where other people went that made them unhappy but I am very satisfied with the service and the employees. This is an update. Apparently I was mistaken about the actual office since there are two "Dental Arts" within the same building. There is a specialist they referred me too that was the main source of the issues as posted in my last comment. This office is nice. The equipment is new and the staff is friendly. The first time I came here the staff was friendly enough. I spoke frequently with the main dentist here, especially after my negative reviews, so it shows there is concern for the patient's experience (at least when you post a Yelp review). The hygienist is nice and did a pretty decent job cleaning my teeth so no marks there. Now the negative part: Do not accept their recommendation to have your advance orthodontic issues treated by their sister office down the hall. That place is LITERALLY the worst run dental office I have ever been to. See previous review for specifics. The whole experience has left a negative mark for me for the entire "Dental Arts" name from Torrance to Long Beach, so my review is reflective of that. read more

I give this place 4 stars, not 5 b/c like other reviews...I agree that it is a bit pricey. Now, I want to say that--before you go anywhere, you should read the reviews and see what you're in for. I didn't do that for this place, but then again...I wouldn't research prices for broken fillings or fillings and periodontal service. Reason being is b/c I didn't know I had a broken filling & whatnot, plus I didn't even know what periodontal cleaning service was...until today & finding out the prices for just the broken filling as well as the cleaning,...is close to $300. STAY AWAY! First of all this is the first dentist i've ever been to where just a normal teeth cleaning would not be covered under insurance. Instead it was going to cost $125. Needless to say I did not get my teeth cleaned and did not go back in after the initial appointment where they proceeded to tell me I needed my wisdom teeth out and set me up with an appointment from their surgeon right across the hall. Okay, so they were super nice and I hate going to the dentist (as do most people) so the fact that they were cheerful and nice is what is keeping me from giving them a 1 star review. I really do appreciate their kindness. However, they do not offer many options for people who don't have a lot of money to throw around cosmetically and just need to get things done economically. Many of their procedures are far outside of what my insurance will cover, leaving me with an enormous bill and it terrifying on top of my school loans. Even a simple teeth-cleaning is not fully covered by my insurance (and it should be.) This is in reference to Dental Arts' main office. When I had to get my wisdom teeth extracted, I was sent jumping through a million hoops. During my consultation, the doctor telling me about the possible complications of the surgery wouldn't look me in the eye and instead spent a lot of time looking at my shoes or his shoes or the computer screen. I then made an appointment a month in advance for the procedure only to have it cancelled on me via voicemail three days before because "there wouldn't be a doctor in the office." I tried calling back several times, leaving several messages and had a hard time getting anyone to actually pick up the phone. I finally got a call back at 2:30pm, when I was unable to pick up the phone and got a very brief and unhelpful voicemail, and then got to play phone tag again. Once I finally got the procedure done, the doctor was very nice and professional. But, I needed to call to get a detailed receipt and again, was stuck calling multiple times, leaving unreturned messages and getting flustered. read more

I have been a patient of long beach dental arts for about six months now. I haven't been to a dentist for a long time and always thought I follow excellent oral hygiene practice at home. One day I woke up with this intense tooth ache and here I was. And what a pleasant experience it was, right from the front desk to the assistants and the doctor. They have the latest equipment in the industry with a dedicated staff. They had several options for treatment and I could pick one based on my budget. Don't go here!! All the bad reviews are true!! Wish i can give 0 stars!!! Went here because of my husband's insurance send us here. The staff is very friendly but saw the dentist for about 5 min and then he left. Went then to talk to the manager about what is next and payment plans. She said I had two cavities and said I'll need crowns for both of them. Which will cost me $2000. They said my insurance is no good! So, i felt something was off and called them back about a week later and said they need to explain to me why I need crowns, no one got back to me until they called me to remind me about my appointment for getting the crowns. She then tried to explain to me why I need need. I was like ok, sounds legit.... Then the day of, i was sitting waiting for the dentist who is helping someone else (btw they scheduled 3 people the same time as me). As I'm waiting i went on yelp and started seeing all these bad reviews and I was like NOPE I'm outa here. So here is the kicker, i went to my old dentist (didn't tell him anything till he was done) he said i have one small cavity that os gonna need a filling, which cost me $90. The funny thing is the cavity wasn't even in the same tooth these people told me i had! They just want your money and the dentists recommends unnecessary procedures!!! DON'T GO HERE! The negative reviews are all right. All my life, I did everything my dentist recommended. I never thought to question them. And I never regretted it. Until now, This place will always tell you that you need this or that when you dont. I said yes to everything thinking they were on my side. Told me my insurance doesnt cover it but they can open an interest free (for 18 months) credit account. No interest....procedures are needed...yes ....i thought it was the right answer. So with account open and paying about 100 a month... i said yes to this. yes to that. Before I new it I was deep in debt. Now the only way to avoid interest is to pay 300 per month. They have a lovely office but constantly were overcharging us. They suggested unnecessary work and when we confronted them that the prices did not match our insurance booklet, they used excuse after excuse to get out of it. This is the place to go to if you are scared of pain like me, or believe you have a difficult tooth. Trust yourself. Do not take a chance and listen to the general dentist. See the Surgeon, Dr Belton and save yourself the pain. This place is state-of-the-art with 3D Xray machines for instance. Im not sure bad reviews are talking about the same place. For me this was like Godsent. I had a wisdom tooth laying at an angle that my general dentist broke attempting to extract and gave up leaving me in unbearable pain. I did not close my eyes that night. Viccodin did nothing to stop the pain. A day later I was surprized that this Surgeon was able to remove the broken wisdom tooth and all i felt was pressure; not pain like the previous day. See Dr. Belton the Oral Surgeon and save yourself the pain in the first place. I can only speak from my experience with him. I believe he's Suite 230. Agree w/ all these reviews. This many bad reviews is not just a couple un-happy customers. It's an indication of endemic unethical business practices. They will overcharge you for services, above and beyond your deductable, as well as perform services on you w/o your acknowledgement and then attempt to charge you after the fact. Bottom line, this place overcharges for their services and money is their bottom line, before bedside manner or quality work which they do not stand behind. This practice is located in a well known medical building by Chase on Spring in Long Beach, and I have been going there for years prior to see other doctors in the building. First off, the only positive things I have to say about LB Dental Arts is that they have new and modern state of the art equipment and are very good about keeping their appointment times with speedy service. That's where the compliments end. I have been extremely disappointed by my visits here. The two dental assistants that I have encountered were quite rude and seemed to ask questions that made me feel at fault for the damage that had incurred to my teeth, when it was their faulty workmanship that was mostly to blame. Over a year ago, I was talked into upgrading to top of the line ceramic/porcelain crowns that were considerably more expensive, but "would last for at least ten years compared to the standard crowns that would eventually need replacement." So out of pocket I paid around 2300, not including the expensive root canals. A few weeks ago, my crown cracked, leaving a gaping hole in my tooth. The dentist, as well as the dentist who originally placed the crowns on, were both young and looked to be in their early to late 30s. For a crown that was supposed to last me 10 years and deteriorated in a little over a year, the only thing they had to say was that it was my fault I did not come in for a follow up cleaning and that I would need two new crown replacements for their faulty work, and insinuated I should have been wearing a night guard, that they could provide for an additional 400. They didn't even offer to fill in my tooth temporarily. Even after explaining I was still paying off my last payment with them, and that I was a student, it was made clear that I needed to get this work done immediately for the health of my teeth. It would have been nice to have been informed of this on my first visit. Then they asked why I haven't returned, and to be honest, their lack of empathy towards my situation and their rude comments are the exact reason why. I have had a crown that has served me no problems for ten years from a different dentist and is still intact, and Lb dental arts crown workmanship was poor. HORRIBLE!!!! DONT GO THERE!! They PURPOSELY will put in the wrong codes for the insurance! So you end up paying a ridiculous amount!!
