Chloe came to me chipped and my info was already sent to a registry. All I had to do was update the info, i.e. rename, chip#, etc.

I have been looking for dog for about a month that would be a good match for me and my household. I encountered a gorgeous tri-colored "long-haired chihuahua" on the ACS website and put in an application. ACS called her "Chewy" and certainly she loved to chew and gnaw on anything soft. Although she was 8 months old, she still had a lot of the puppy rambunctiousness in her. ADOPTION APPLICATION PROCESS. After putting in an application and receiving confirmation of receipt, it was reviewed after several days and I eventually received a phone call within the course of a week. Usually I don't pick up for numbers I do not recognize, but I knew it was from a City of Long Beach Department. It showed up as (562)570-5000, which is the default number when someone calls from a City of Long Beach landline. We set up a meet-and-greet appointment, the same week. MEET & GREET. I was provided a phone number to text upon arrival. ACS had a white tent set up with pamphlets and a log of lost/found animals. I texted and was taken to the kennels to meet my sweet dog. While escorted to the back, I was told the dog was shy and timid. I get it--its an animal shelter; kennels and cold walls. She was shy and it took a minute for the shelter staff to get her to come out of her kennel and out into the grassy area. We walked into the sunlight and Chewy immediately jumped into my arms. She chose ME. :D WINDING UP PROCESS. After the meet and greet, I was explained that she received all her shots and was recently spayed. ACS provided me with a folder of her licensing documents, certification of spay/neuter, flea prevention info, information on her chip and how to change owner information, and a voucher for her first vet appointment. I signed the documents online and paid for the adoption fee of $91. In total, it was about $124 for the processing fee, licensing, etc. I am now a happy owner of a tri-colored long-haired chihuahua although I think she's probably a mix of part chihuahua and something else. Although its nice to name dogs after an attribute or some personality trait, I am sure that she will grow out of this puppy-like chewing stage. I decided to re-name her to something more appropriate--Chloe. Good luck to anyone in search of a pet. ACS is an excellent choice for adoption. Adoption fees are affordable, which allows most households to afford a fur baby. I was very pleased that my Chloe come home spayed and ready to go. The adoption fees were far less than I would have paid had I needed to get the procedure done on my own, bought my own flea meds, microchip, etc.. You would be surprised to see the animals that come through here. Even if muts or pound puppies are not your type, I have seen owner-surrendered purebreds and designer-type dogs as strays come through ACS. Keep your eyes open, and check back often.

Lady in the front desk

To begin with I had found two kittens in the alley and I told them that I did not want to leave them there because they look hungry and in distress I brought them in and said that I should have left them there and it is not their responsibility to receive animals that are injured or in need. I explain but that is very inhumane lady in the front desk had a very nasty attitude. I just saw four women in the front admissions desk gossiping about I don't know what but customer service really needs to improve and I believe this should be a boycotted place because it is for a lost and found building. Women in the front are just relaxing having a good time and not doing their jobs. I recommend anyone who found a lost animal show up and try to find them a hole because that's what they exactly told me.

Just came in today to drop a kitten and the mother off so they can find a home. Found them in the ally eating of the floor. When I walked in with the cats the lady at the front desk told me they aren't accepting any cats and they are free to roam around at least they gave me a box to go it them in. Sad that they don't want to help and do their job. Website says they accept cats and dogs.

I noticed this dog was left overnight inside this Silver - Ford Escape - License plate 7YWP095 It's 4/22 Sat and the online website states LB Animal Care hours open at 10 am, yet their telephone line states they open at 7 AM... which is it? This miscommunication prevents animals from being attended to with urgency. I'm getting exhausted trying to help all these animals alone, what is the point of LB animal care other than maybe some tax-safe haven for the city of long beach? Who knows. All I know is that my tax money isn't going towards this but those shiny new gentrified buildings in downtown

I have just about all good things to say about this shelter. The only down side is they've been a little slow in giving me shot records or any other paper work. However, this shelter is great, they're very clean and the staff has been kind. Chris, Gary, and Tabare have been great to my husband and I. We can't to the shelter looking for a dog we were hoping would fit into our family well and boy did we find her. We love this girl like she's one of our children.

That's Chewie when we adopted her, her name is now Hunny B. She's a sweet girl, she's 90% house trained after three weeks.

I would give them 10 stars if I could, the volunteers at this shelter are spot on genuinely really nice people. I'm guessing the low star ratings are from the shared property at the SPCLA? Adopted my first pet a Lab, when they were located on Willow across from now Costco circa 99. Just adopted another little sweet girl and looking to adopt another this weekend. Rescue a dog people.

My new baby Nala.

I received great service. The reps at window acknowledged as soon as I walked in and were able to assist quickly. Appears to be many people here whom love and care for animals. They have a nice adoption center They even have a store on site to purchase items before you leave. Plenty of parking. Phone service and wait can use some help as some wait times can be ridiculous

the card she game me to email my id to her

Ask the Community - Long Beach Animal Care Services

What does the Long Beach Animal Shelter or the SPLA, if they also provide this procedure, which I don't believe do, charge for putting your pet to sleep?? My beloved cat, Fuego, who's only 3, we believe got hit by a car, causing spinal injury.

The shelter does not provide this service. If it's time to have your animal put to sleep, you will need to go to a full service vet or contact a euthanasia service. You can, however, bring the deceased pet to the shelter for disposal for $33 (no… Read more

It was the start of something new. I'm definetly NOT a cat person.I would never think to myself "I…read moreNEED to have a pet cat !!!". But that doesn't mean I hate cats. Just more of a dog person. One morning I heard the tiniest meows coming from my drive way. I thought I was hearing things at first but then I realized... that's a kitten not a bird !! It took a broom & back & forth, but there was the tiniest black kitten under my husbands car !! We ended up naming him Lude. We fed Lude & he was a bit shy at first. It didn't take long for him to warm up to me. I made the effort of petting him daily so he wouldn't turn feral. I wasn't sure of the gender & I was worried about the possibility of him being a female & then there would be too many kittens in our backyard. I definitely don't want to contribute to the stray cat population here !! I did some research & came across this little gem not far at all from my house. With a couple emails, a date was set for Lude's surgery. The services offered included spay/neuter, rabies, de worming & flea treatment. The Little Lion Foundation also loans out the traps so no need to go out to buy one. The day of the surgery I was able to put Lude in the trap & didn't have to set up the trap to trick him in - so that was easy ! I dropped him off early in the morning & picked him up the same day around 4 pm or so. Lude was so calm & quiet the entire car ride home !! I left him in the cage over night which made me worry he would panic - but he didn't. The next day I was able to let him out & today he's back to his old self again clipped ear & all. BIG shout out to this amazing non-profit foundation !! Thank you for helping out Lude. We love the little lion foundation !

Although I ended up not being a match for Eli, the initial adoption process through K9 Kismet went smoothly. First, I completed an adoption form and waited for someone to contact me. I received a call from Nici who arranged for a meet and greet in an office in Los Alamitos. We also had a tentative home check arranged. After a meet and greet between Eli with another prospective adoptive family, Nici advised that Eli would probably not be a good fit in my household. I couldn't agree more with her assessment because I have a smaller dog in my home that would probably be prone to getting injured by Eli's sheer playfulness. He is a solid dog with a lot of energy. The other dog in my house is a senior teacup chihuahua. I am so happy that Eli has since found his forever home. His story is one that tugged at my heartstrings and I just had to meet him. Even though it did not work out between us, K9 Kismet is a legit rescue that cares about the wellbeing of the pet and thoroughly vets their applicants.

I spoke with our hosts over the phone before the party. They answered all of my questions, offered to configure the lobby for our needs, and assured me that there would be several volunteers assisting on the night of the party. We loved hosting such a unique party. All our daughter's friends were mesmerized by the cats. With so many cats in multiple rooms (kitten room, main room, quiet room), each of the girls and adults found their "spot" and had a great time. There was more than enough space for the 23 guests we had The cats were so sweet and fun. With dozens of cats in the same room, you might think that the cats would be fighting or disruptive, but it was just the right mix of calm and playfulness. We brought in pizza and cupcakes, which we set up in the lobby. Cat Nap graciously provided tablecloths and some paper goods. The lobby is small and doesn't have the space for seating, but the girls didn't mind standing or sitting on the floor while they ate. They were eager to get back to the cats, so we didn't spend much time with the food. The volunteers absolutely blew us away with their hospitality. They offered to help us set up and haul trash, and they provided a first aid kit to a couple of our guests who got scratched by the kitties. They answered questions from our curious guests, and they kept the space very clean through the whole evening. Overall, we are so happy to have hosted a party at Cat Nap!
