These guys were OK for small repairs and/or system inspections that I had done when Allied Warranty (their parent company, I believe). If you need real work done, TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE.
following is the complaint I filed with the Better Business Bureau. Pricing, installation, and necessary repairs after the installation were all issues for me.
I have several complaints with respect to the installation of my Trane model 4TTB 4060 E1 air conditioning unit.
First, when my old unit was diagnosed as dead, the repair tech suggested I purchase a new unit. When I asked him if his pricing was competitive, he told me it was. Being someone who travels 100,000 miles/year, I decided to go ahead and get the unit replaced while I was home that week rather than having to try to schedule contractors during travel. When I got a chance to call around and satisfy my curiosity, I learned that the unit that I paid $7200 for could have been purchased for $4900. Shame on them for not being competitive; shame on me for trusting the salesperson to give me a fair price in respect to their competition.
The unit was installed the following day. Upon inspection a couple of weeks later, I found that the outdoor unit was not physically attached to the concrete slab. I live in a hurricane-prone area and would bet that failure to attach the unit to the concrete pad is in violation of local building codes.
When the repair tech came out (who happened to be the same person who sold me the unit in the first place), he found that the outdoor unit was locked in the "on" position, meaning it had been running for possibly an entire month straight. Upon further inspection he found that (1) there was a defective switch in the outdoor unit, and (2) that there were problems with the wiring in the attic. He said that he had never seen that switch go bad in a brand new unit, which suggests further poor workmanship from the installers.
The repair tech was not able to attach the unit to the concrete slab. The installation team had to come back and do that. So I scheduled yet another appointment to have the installers back out, and they ended up sending the same team who did the poor installation in the first place to mount the A/C unit to the concrete slab. The work they did looks horribly unprofessional in comparison to the work the installers did when my house and the other houses in the neighborhood were built. Unfortunately trying to discuss the situation with the installers did not go well because of their poor English skills.
So, in summary, I was overcharged by about $2200 based on competitive quotes and then had to take an additional 2 days off of work (at a time value of about $625/day) to have all of the problems from the poor installation fixed.
I have filed several complaints directly with a gentleman named Jim Wood at Lone Star Repair, but they fell on deaf ears. read more
