This is a small YMCA, but is overall pretty clean and i well located with plenty of parking. Kathy the instructor was wonderful and a great knowledge resource. All that said, there is no pool or water exercise capability there; you have to pay a separate fee to the City of Lompoc to access the aquatic center, which is literally right behind the Y, and it is expensive with limited adult access in the exercise pool because it is primarily geared towards children and families. Additionally, the Y itself is at least 95% geared towards children and families, with adults and seniors treated to crumbs and as an afterthought. Not very welcoming at all if you aren't a family with young children. Lastly, the hours are not great for those on non-traditional schedules, and the membership fee is quite expensive. Sad, because my entire family has been a Y family since my brother and I were kids, and there was always plenty of access to things and activities, classes, functions AND a pool at other YMCAs. Just not this one. Again, great for families and little kids and people looking for what amounts to a daycare center and kids camp. Not so great for everybody else. read more

Have been going to this branch for over a year and it is the best in Californa! Facility is kept clean and all of the equipment is easy to use for my family and I, instructions are on sides and barely ever out of service. I love the steam room even if it does get very hot and humid in there .Staff at this branch are ALWAYS helpful, polite, very nice young ladies at the desk always make us feel like part of the Y family. Overall very satisfied but would love to visit more on weekends.. read more

They don't clean the place. What's the machines are old and they don't fix it you keep donating money I don't know where the money goes. They are not fixing anything. read more

The Y is a clean, well maintained facility. It has a wide variety of classes and is linked to the Aquatic Center so you can check in at the Y for both. They have plenty of machines to work out on. The only drawback that bothers me is that I like to be left alone when working out. One of the teachers has a tendency to push her weight around a bit and it gets old. read more

I started a membership just to check out the gym when I moved to Lompoc. I did a one time payment for a month and decided the place wasnt for me. The gym is tiny and monthly fee way too much ($42 a month/$504 a year). I found a better gym by Walmart that charges me $15 a month. Even though I said I wanted to just feel it out, I looked at my statement a four months later and realized they had been charging me the whole time. I called to cancel and the receptionist says I have to come in to fill out a form in order to do so. WTF? I dont have the time to come in so she says she can email it to me but it would take an hour to send the email. Again, WTF? My advice: If youre looking for a good place to workout, check out the gym by walmart called In-Shape. Its huge and they have everything you need at a fraction of the cost. I think it was a $60 sign up fee and then $15 a month after that. For me it comes out to $240 a year instead of $504 a year with YMCA. read more

I signed up to pay my membership monthly with cash. After about a year, I used a credit card to pay for one month of my membership and they took it upon themselves to charge it every month until I cancelled. I did NOT sign the permission form. I also had a horrible experience trying to enroll my son in a week long summer camp. After nearly 2 months and 30 phone calls trying to get it straightened out, I finally had to go through a different YMCA in Santa Barbara to get it fixed. There supervisor Stephanie was unapologetic, incompetent, and dropped the ball so many times that I refuse to enroll my son in any programs through their center for fear of a severe lack of responsibility. I took my business to the Santa Maria YMCA and the Santa Barbara YMCA instead. read more

I had a wonderful experience at YMCA. I signed for 10 day guest pass. The gym is beautiful, yet to start and take classes. Gigi and Kathy really helped me out in showing the gym around. Can't wait to start. read more

It is with disappointment that I discontinued my membership. The wellness program and its Director was terminated with no notice or explanation. She was amazing at developing new programs, devising great outreach strategies, instructing with remarkable energy and enriching the organization with her positive attitude and consistent willingness to provide support all who were involved with her. I have never known a greater role model with her positive attitude, amazing physical fitness and enthusiasm for the organization. I will be joining THE PIER where the lovely and dynamic Teresa McIntyre will be continuing her career. What a great loss for THE Y. read more

I am going on my 5th year with a family membership at the Lompoc YMCA. My family and I love that it's a community based gym that offers several nutritional classes, orientations to use equipment and fun activities for the children of the members. The staff is great. I have taken several classes and of course have my favorites but find that each member is willing to assist new faces that enter the classes. The members are familiar faces that you see in our small town and makes the visit to the Y that more inviting. They have instructors teaching classes without even the most basic certifications. This is not only unsafe and irresponsible, but it goes against the YMCA values of honesty and integrity. Kathy is extremely rude and is constantly looking for something to chastise younger members for. The childcare is much more limited than they will have you believe, even though the childcare staff have their children in there round the clock. Save your money, frustrations, and possible injuries and find a gym that actually does what it claims to read more

It is awful!! The renovations are nice but the service and hours of operation are AWFUL and a huge inconvenience. I appreciate that they are a family place but people with real lives would like to go to a gym thats open past 9PM on its latest hour AND 5PM on Sundays. Membership prices are decent and they even offer scholarship programs but it's not worth the limited time and mainly, rude staff(MOST, not all are awful). They are also very unprofessional. I went in to cancel my membership IN PERSON and asked if there was a balance on there, they said no. Three months later I recieve a bill saying there is an unpaid balance. When I call, I get transferred to the membership director(all the while thinking I was in good hands-WRONG). She sais she doesn't see any charges and will pass it on to her assistant to look into it (because a YMCA membership director is too busy to handle membership issues????) Anyway, I wait for a call all day, nothing. So I call back the next day in the evening to be responded to by a very very rude staff saying that there is in fact a bill that she didn't even bother explain, and then rudely hangs up on me. So if you can get past the extremely limited hours,rude staff with a figure it out attitude, and the prices that don't give you the bang for your buck, YMCA Lompoc is your place. I have refrained from using any other gym seeing as I always expected to be greeted with the YMCA welcoming feel that it is known for, but with that totally not meeting up to the YMCA's great reputation. I have to give my business elsewhere. I heard Inshape has no- month to month agreement now with great rates, it is open late and has great customer service; I guess that's why so many are switching over. YMCA should take lessons from Inshape, maybe then they can live up to the YMCA standard that we are all use to. Until then, BEWARE and take it from someone who loves community centers but this place rings far from. read more
