We were in Miami for NYE and decided to have early dinner at Lolo's surf cantina as it was the nearest restaurant located outside the Nikki beach. The restaurant is hard to find as it is located inside the Stanton hotel. We ordered Guacamole and nachos, Chicken bowl, shrimp bowl and Churros. The food was absolutely delicious but the portion sizes were small. The food is absolutely delicious here. I am rating it 3 stars cause of the few red flags we noticed and experienced at this place. Firstly, our server asked us if we wanted to start off with Guacamole and nachos without handing us the menu. We immediately said yes instinctively later to realize that it was the costliest dish amongst small plates. It was $17. Secondly, the server also asked us if we wanted bottled water or sparkling water to which we asked for bottled water. They charged us $10 for water alone. Thirdly, the bill already included 18% gratuity still the server politely asked to tip us on top of it and we tipped too under pressure. Overall not a good experience for our family. read more

Birria's were delicious, but the accompanying consommé unfortunately had no depth. So we did without the obligatory dipping. The Veggie Tacos were a hit, with a combo of veggies and added tasty components. There was one other taco that was also good. The food here is great. The chips and salsa are homemade and so tasty. Chicken flautas very flavorful and the spicy shrimp tostada was phenomenal with fresh shrimp and perfectly seasoned guacamole. We went for hh and the menu has drinks and food for $5- great deal! The margs weren't that good, seemed watery and had to ask for salt/tajin on the rim. Also the servers were NOT friendly at all like very weird vibes from them. It's a cute place with an outdoor patio out back which is where we sat. We came in here about 40 mins before they closed, they treated us like they were open all night still. Never felt rushed or like we were an inconvenience. The food was definitely different than our typical Mexican food experience, but very good. It seemed fresh and clean. We both had a burrito bowl and they were both great! We ran into Lolo's as we took a break to get coffee before dinner on day 2 (walking from the Art Deco Museum on 10th street down to 1st street). We stopped by for their happy hour special. We got chips and salsa and a fish taco. My sister and I also tried a couple of their happy hour drinks. They had outdoor seating, but we decided to sit inside at the bar to stay cooler in our "little black dresses" for dinner time. We had a way fun bartender and found out she had a birthday recently too. She made up a shot on the fly just for our (my sister's and my) birthday! It was the best shot! They look small, but the amount of filling was more than enough. The food here is delicious and I wish it had more recognition! Lolo's is attached to the Stanton Marriott in South Beach where we stay when we visit Miami. Since the Stanton Marriott did away with the Concierge lounge a few years ago, this restaurant is where you have breakfast as part of your Elite benefits. It also provides food and drinks via servers who work the pool and beach for the Marriott. They also serve lunch and dinner with Happy Hour specials and Taco Tuesday specials. The servers are very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is hit or miss from the standpoint of how long it takes to get your food regardless of the number of patrons in the restaurant. Not sure if it's the takeout orders or just the proficiency of the kitchen that impacts the timing. We have gone to Happy hour and had dinner on occasion especially if it's raining out or wanting a quick bite before heading to the airport. The mixed drinks could probably use a little more alcohol but we have left the bar with a buzz, albeit after spending $100 at the bar. Food is good, would say average Mexican street fare. Their hot salsa is outstanding though. Lolo's works in a pinch or for convenience but there are more and better options on SoBe. read more

However, the food takes a long time to come out and the service from day-to-day got progressively worse. In terms of the food, I got the eggs benedict and the avocado toast. Both had a lot of flavor. The eggs benedict had a twist with a nice chorizo-like meat. The avocado toast was light but filling. In terms of the service, the servers got progressively worse from day-to-day in terms of coming to the table, checking-in and having an attitude while taking the order. Additionally, the restaurant never had more than 5 tables of people while I was there, but the food always took at least 35-40 minutes to come out. This might be attributed to the fact that the restaurant serves the hotel, hotel pool and the hotel beach. So, I would make sure you have time if you decide to eat here. Overall, Lolo's Surf Cantina is a good place to go for a good meal with anyone but make sure you have time as it may take a while to get your food. read more

We found this place when looking for a breakfast spot open early. We were seated inside and looked over the menu. The breakfast menu only had mimosas and bloody marys listed for alcoholic drinks. We asked the nice server if there were any other options as we see they have a full bar. She said no, only those two to pick from. I ordered a mimosa and we decided to split a breakfast sandwich and a side of bacon since neither of us were super hungry and we were just waiting to be able to check in to our hotel. The menu is pretty small so there weren't that many things to pick from for the breakfast. Their menu for dinner and happy hour seemed to have much more of a variety. The mimosa came out and it was just a flute. Small drink for $9 if you ask me, but I guess it is Miami Beach. The bacon was cooked well and the breakfast sandwich was good and pretty filling. Staying at the hotel attached to this restaurant so our first meal was breakfast. Everything was prepared well and the service was friendly and helpful. Decided to come back for dinner after a day of walking and sun. You have to have dinner here! We ended up coming in during Happy Hour and ordered off the main menu and the HH menu. Unlike many places, the food choices for HH were varied. I ordered the flauta and a carnitas slider from the HH menu. Incredibly good (actually the best flauta I have had). The carnitas slider was delicious, too, but I loved the flauta. My husband ordered a Birria . He said it was incredibly good (too many places try to take short cuts with birria and it shows). This place took their time and the end result was an A+. Excellent value for your time and money (especially with a $5 per item HH menu. read more
