This is a great Mexican market with fair prices on everything you need. The produce was the best prices I have found but also included 99 cent bags of slightly blemished veggies and fruits. They have endless options for tortillas, spices, flour, beans, etc., but the meat section is exceptional. The staff (I love Carlos!) is very helpful. Everyone is bilingual. We were in the area and decided to check out Lola's market on Petaluma Hill road. We usually go to the one on Sebastopol road. A small eatery on the premises has a separate entrance other than the store. They have a small dining area and larger outdoor dining. We are on the hunt for the perfect Chile relleno so we both ordered the combo plate with rice and beans. It also came with fresh hot tortillas. The food was delivered and it looked good and the price was very reasonable. We started eating and immediately noticed that the rice and beans were lukewarm. We cut into the chile relleno and found a doughy exterior that had no taste. The pepper itself was thin surrounding a thick, cold, firm, solid cheese interior. This relleno was not freshly cooked and made the flavor poor. Because of the temperature, we both felt it was the worst chile relleno we ever had and dubbed it, "chilly relleno". We could have sent it back to be microwaved but had other things to do and I can microwave food at home. We will not return to this location but would try out the Sebastopol store. read more

I've driven by Lola's Market (multiple locations throughout the North Bay) so many times but have never been inside one. I was driving around thinking about where I should eat lunch, and decided to give Lola's taqueria a try. I was not disappointed! The menu is fairly extensive with items you would expect, but I was in the mood for tacos. I grabbed one chicken, one al pastor, and one lengua taco. They were all excellent! The main selling factor, for me, is the amount of meat piled onto these tacos. They taste great, but the value is even better. You get A LOT of meat. Probably enough for two tacos on each one. The tacos are a little more expensive than your normal taqueria fair, but the portions more than make up for it. You can't mess taquitos up, but congratulations Lolas restaurant your cooks managed to stuff the taquitos with tasteless, unseasoned, bland food. The potatoes not seasoned, the chorizo just cooked with no onion. Then to add insult to injury the taquitos are then perfectly over fried until it hurts to bite them. Another frequent visit to Lola's today. It's a nice Mexican food market. The whole roasted chickens are back up to $7.50 on weekends from $4.99. I guess they run specials occasionally and then pull them. However, they had a Pollo Asado whole grilled special today for $8.99. It's not the same whole roast chicken in the bag but rather 2 chicken halves that were grilled, not roasted. Included for $8.99 are 2 grilled chicken halves, 8 oz container of the salsa of your choice, 8 oz Mexican rice, and 2 dozen corn tortillas. It's a pretty good deal. The 8 oz rice isn't enough so I ordered a quart of rice for another $5. I also ordered a chile relleno a la carte. The Mexican rice is some of the best I've had. It's fluffy light and tasty but not overbearing. The chile relleno is huge so I usually eat half with rice and save the other half for another meal. And the grilled chicken is delicious and tender with just the right amount of spices. I proceeded to the produce section and picked up some fresh cilantro, radishes, and green onion. Their produce prices are less than the local supermarkets. The cashier wasn't very friendly when I said "hola". No thank you when I left but I didn't come here for friendly checkouts. The hot food and salsa employees were very friendly and helpful so that makes up for it. I will keep coming to this market. By the way, if you haven't tried their hand made corn tortillas, they are only available on weekends and you have to ask for them. I picked up on Lola's from Yelp and popped in for lunch today. WOW was I surprised, I had their Santa Fe Salad that was $9.99 and it was big enough for three of us, super fresh and so tasty. My daughter had a couple of carnitas tacos and the carnitas was perfect. Not an obvious place to go, but I will be back to try more. read more

Lola's Market is right next door to the restaurant. For the restaurant there is seating inside and out (roof covering with wooden picnic tables). I ordered a carnitas (pork) chimichanga and my hubby ordered a pork burrito. These are the biggest burritos/chimichangas we have ever ordered. We ate half and saved the rest for later. My chimichanga came with lettuce, sour cream and guacamole on the side. Joshua got his inside the burrito. The pork was tender and there was plenty of it! We enjoyed our huge chimichanga/burrito. Better than usual Mexican supermarket. I especially like the in-house bakery tres leches cake. Best "3 milks" cake I ever had, oh yes I've eaten more than a few. Today I ate at the taqueria. Tried the lengua (beef tongue) and the roast chicken. There was practically a entire 1/2 chicken breast on the 2 corn tortillas. This review is mainly for the restaurant. Finally went in and gave them a try, the restaurant was pretty busy with almost every table full. It was clean and inviting inside. The chips they gave were delicious and they gave us a little paper bowl with them which I didn't understand until I got to the salsa bar which was loaded with 3-4 salsas, onions, cilantro, chillies and tons of fresh fruit which is what the bowl was for. Fresh fruit before or after your meal is a nice touch and different from an taqueria I've been to. The meal: ordered a super burrito with grilled chicken. I went out on a limb trying the grilled chicken, I usually go shredded because a lot of taquerias use cheap cuts for grilled meat and it come greasy and grizzly...not here! Big chunks of lean white breast meat! Almost tasted like rotisserie it was delicious! I'll definitely be going back often! UPDATE: tried their shredded chicken burrito.... I'm in love, may never go to another taqueria! Huge hunks of rotisserie breast meat, so flavorful and just melts in your mouth. And the fruit in the salsa bar changes daily. I've been going to the Sebastopol road location for a few years now. But, today was my first visit to the Petaluma hill road location. The place had nearly no customers, which was a nice change, as the Sebastopol rd. store is always packed with people. Both stores are neatly kept... My favorite part about both locations is the meat counter, and the produce section. They have lots of items that you just cannot find at you run of the mill American stores. For instance, you can get lots of different types of pre marinated meats. You can get chicken, or steak fajitas that are the best you'll ever have! Or you can choose from al pastor (my personal / current favorite) or you can get steak ranchera... Which is essentially skirt steak with a really special fancy and extremely tasty marinade, that once grilled will make your friends and family think you studied culinary arts in Mexico!!! Also my favorite is the nopales pads they sell in the produce section. I love to get the de spiked / cleaned ones. I love to make nopales salad with them. Lola's is a wonderful grocery store that can provide you with fantastic ingredients to make some very amazing Mexican food!!! Artisinal Cajeta Small Rack of Ribs Carnitas Style Homemade Lard & Aciento Moronga (Braised Blood Sausage) On the produce side... the fruit offering tends to be weak... but the vegetables are great. Where else are you going to regularly find Mexican vegetables (the stuff we actually when we are back in our native habitat) such as: Nopales Pads Calabacitas (Round as well as Tubes) Greens such as Verdologas (Purslane), Quelites (Amaranth Greens), Berros (Watercress) Huazontle ("Aztec" spinach) Fresh/Green Garbanzos & Peas Full range of Chile Peppers (Fresh & Sun Dried) I can go on & on... Lola's is one of the few places you can purchase all the ingredients you need to cook authentic Mexican dishes. The meat department is huge, you can find Carne Asada ready to throw on the grill or already made salsas, carnitas, moranga and so much more. Lola's has excellent prices for great veggies; the right stuff for cooking home made Mexican food; and carnitas that is worth every cent. The food is so good, that you will wind up debating whether to just get what they precooked, or cook yourself. Do visit the butcher to check the prices. I have not tried the bagged home made masa; but the tamales are really good. Petaluma Hill Road and Sebastopol Ave are both good. Friendly spanish speaking staff will also help an english speaker find a tortilla press and teach him how to use it. It is very rare that I step into a Mexican grocery. I haven't even found one as big as this in Vallejo. Yay for Lola's for attaching the taqueria to the grocery. The food is reasonably priced, and good sized portions. She gets the big nay for not having carnitas last night. While I was visiting a friend this weekend, we stopped at Lola's to pick up some stuff to make dinner. Well, actually, he picked up the dinner stuff. So, I walk in and I instantly am vaulted by all the great produce. I mean...it just smelled so good, and it looked amazing! What was even better...NOPALES! I haven't seen these in forever. Well, I see them in cans...but that's just gross. I picked up some nopales for breakfast the next morning, along with some garlic and onions. While waiting for my friend, I even indulged on my child's nature by picking up some tamarindo candy. Gawd...this place could be the death of my waist-line if I lived closer.
